  1. Kelly.. thanx for all the tips..that posted pic was of me and two pilots at work when I had my 88 Harley, new..and before we updated the jet paint..anyway,that was 15 years ago.. Hey, the Rega seems to play just fine..I was comparing it to my other CD player, and the Rega definitely sounds more defined.. Now here's another thing I tried, since you mentioned it..and I know I'm gonna get blasted for this one.. but I turned off the display, and it seemed to me (to my ears anyway) that it smoothed out i.e. the graininess went away, what little I may have perceived. Before I get lambasted too much, I did a "blind test", where I closed my eyes, and flicked the display button on the remote numerous times, very rapidly..then slowwwwly hit the display button again..listening carefully..and (seriously) 9 times out of 10 I heard the subtle difference, and when I opened my eyes the display was off. Really! And to you naysayers, that's what I heard! I am lucky enough to have a DEAD silent room, and amp..no flourescent lights to interfere.. Hey..I'm happy with the Rega! Can't wait to listen more!! Again, all.. thanx for the help Regards, Steve
  2. Mike Actually I just think you forgot the -brackets with img in them at the beginning and the end..and yes, you need a forward slash before img at the end one as Kelly pointed out..I did notice tho..for that to work (the brackets) I had to use HTML, and not rich text..just a thought.. Steve
  3. Kelly OK..here it is again as a test..at least I don't feel too stupid..knew there had to be something wrong!!
  4. Ha ha..really..I'm not that dense!! I'm doing it just as you have described! Seriously! But when I download the pic, I really don't get any change in my address bar!! It just stays http://www.klipsch.com/ that's it..and this is a new Dell Windows XP etc.. Anyway, I go to my Mac, running OSX, and I can do it from there..I get the entire address!! Weird..like I said, I'll work on it..thanx for all the tips. And thanx for the comment on the amp..I had this for 3 years..sold it like a fool this summer, but luckily, got the chance to buy it back! Love the thing! I do want to try a 2A3 amp though like yer Moondogs..I've never had the chance to audition them on my Horns.. Thanx, Steve
  5. Kelly well, I must be doing something wrong..uploaded it like you said, then posted text, entered it..then went to the attached pic, clicked on it, but the address bar stayed at www.klipsh.com/..nothing added to it when I was viewing the pic.. Anyway, I'll work on it. Believe it or don't, I do actually understand computers pretty well..thanx for the tip.. I'll get it. Regards, Steve
  6. Kelly I'm a little lost..you don't use the Klipsch server?? What do you use? And will this work with the Klipsch server or not? Finally, does the text have to be in Rich Text or HTML or does it matter?? Thanx, Steve
  7. well, it looks like it was possibly epoxy that was used, with 3 individual lines. I've already matched up the original lines, and used a 5 minute 2 part epoxy..was very careful not to touch anything else (like the cover!) and spun it a few times to true it i.e. make it perfectly level. It seems to read the music ok, and I'm gonna let it dry for a few more minutes then give it a try. I'm relatively sure it will be alright..but if not, guess I'll have to find a Rega dealer to get parts..hopefully it won't come to that. I had already glued the parts together before I cam back in and read this..sorry for not attaching a pic. Speaking of that..what "thread" would I search for where you explained how to put a pic right in the post?? I'm assuming I need to make my pic more compressed?? The original was less than 100KBs. Thanx, Steve
  8. Kelly I haven't figured out how to copy the pic diectly into the post (I think you explained that somewhere..will have to check the archives) but have attached a photo of the two pieces..seems like it's all there. Apparently, the maget is glued to the spindle..I was just pressing it on too far..I tried it again, lining it up flush and it worked just fine..didn't touch the top/made no noise. Peruse and see if you think I'm missing anything! Must have gotten jostled pretty good to make that piece fall off! Otherwise, it seems to play just fine. I think you're right..built like a tank! Thanx again, Steve
  9. Hey thanx for the quick replies guys! Kelly, great closeups..I'll have a closer look at it when I get home..there definitely weren't anymore pieces.. I'm thinking the magnet isn't fitting the spindle correctly..anyway I will post my findings! Many thanx again! Regards, Steve
  10. Just got my original Rega Planet in today, in the mail. Won it on eBay..I unpacked it, and there's no instruction manual. Not that I can't figure it out..but here's why I wanted a manual. In shipping, there is a magnet floating around loose, and a plastic cup/spindle looking thing. Now as near as I can tell by the pics I have seen online, it LOOKS like the plastic piece goes thru the top of the CD cover, and the magnet goes over the plastic spindle on the other side. Trouble is, it makes noise when spinning a CD as it is plastic against plastic. I tried it without the spindle, just laying the magnet on the center of the CD. Worked great, no noise. So how does this all go together?? Tried to find a manual online but just came up w/the manual for the Rega where the CD goes in the center of the player, not on the left side. Any help greatly appreciated!! Thanx! Steve
  11. Is it well done, like the Dread Zeppelin recordings?? Although a parody..I enjoyed them! Steve
  12. Moon I'm an Al Stewart fan..I have all the first albums..on CD..there is a comilation that includes all 3 of his first albums..the CD is titled "To Whom it May Concern"..it encompasses "Bedsitter Images" "Love Chronicles" and "Zero She Flies"..all interesting stuff..then there was "Orange"..after that, there is "Past Present and Future" a great cd (in my ears) that tells stories of WW1, Nostradamus, etc..great storytelling!! Then "Modern Years" came along, another favorite of mine..Al was at his best..of course with "Year of the Cat", he became a superstar, and "Time Passages" followed soon after..another great recording, but as stated before overplayed. I have the later CDs, "24 Carrots" "Russian and Americans" ( I like this one) "Last Days of the Century" "Rhymes in Rooms" (earlier songs all acoustic, with Peter Wood) "Famous Last Words" and "Between the Wars"..all are good, all AL, but my faves are the earlier CDs. I guess there are Al Stewart fans out there (here) Best, Steve
  13. Hi Brett I just this week bought back my Assemblage 300B SET tube amp that I regretfully sold this summer..I realized too late that it sounded better with my KHorns than any SS amp I used afterwards..luckily it didn't have enough power to drive the new owners much less efficient speakers, so he offered it back to me, and this after sending it back to the builders for the ultimate upgrade! I heartily recommed tubes, and the 300B does it for me, even with the type of music I enjoy, rock to country, mellow to hardcore. It really sings though, on horns and strings. I have heard 2A3 amps are better, I can't attest to this..I've never heard one. I am very happy with the Assemblage though! Can't believe my good fortune to get it "home"! I'm assuming by your moniker that you're a fellow Alaskan! Where are you located?? Regards, Steve
  14. Way to go Erik and Marie! Your quest for speakers is over!! We'll watch for the before and after pics! CONGRATS! Steve
  15. also..I did some checking.. you may have heard "Treetop Flyer" in concert somewhere..but it was NOT on Thoroughfare Gap..Stills Alone was the first CD/album to include this classic! Another reason I want Daylight Again on DVD!!! Regards, Steve
  16. Flynnster! I too have the CSN 'Daylight Again" on LP and CD..and "On the Beach" on LP..AND CD! Neil finally released the "not good enough for CD" albums on CD..I grabbed On the Beach, American Stars and Bars and Hawks and Doves. Thanx for the info on Treetop Flyer..I didn't know it was released before 1990's Stills Alone.. And you're right..Crosby was definitely strung out in the Daylight Again days..he had a stare that would look right thru ya! Glad to have him back as he is one talented musician! Steve
  17. the Last Waltz by the Band was indeed worth waiting for! They did a good job with the soundtrack! I had it on (dating myself) those old video discs that looked like a record in a sleeve and played with a needle! Remember them?? Here's some other DVDs I have on hand and enjoy! 1.Eric Clapton-Unplugged 2.Roger Daltrey-A Celebration (was his 50th birthday-I highly recommend this one.."Who" songs with an orchestra! The drummer is phenomenal!) 3.Eagles-Hell Freezes Over 4.John Fogerty-Preminition (excellent sound quality, highly recommended) 5.Heart-The Road Home (acoustic concert from their living room-great!) 6.Jethro Tull-Living in the Past (newer concert footage..love it! Ian Anderson is something else! what talent!) 7.Joni Mitchell-Shadows and Light (mentioned this in another thread-highly recommended) 8.James Taylor-Live at the Beacon (great concert, but wish I had the one done back in the early 80's an outside concert on abovementioned video disc format if it were on DVD) 9.Rogers Water-In the Flesh..I'm a RW fan anyway 10.Neil Young-Rust Never Sleeps..bizarre but I had this years ago..such good memories Just ordered the "new" Led Zep 2 disc DVD tonight, making of DSOTM Pink Floyd DVD and (finally released!) the Who- The Kids are Alright. Still looking for some that aren't out yet, namely Neil Young "Unplugged" and Crosby Still Nash-Daylight Again..Steve Stills did a song called "Treetop Flyer" at that concert circa 82 I believe..and didn't release it on a CD until 90..on his "Stills Alone" CD..great album, great song!! Rambled on enough here..just wish there were more vintage concerts on DVD!! Regards, Steve
  18. Tom Like the rest say, congrats!! The KHorn nirvana is real! I'll never trade mine in! Those are some great speakers ya got there!! As for the smoke smell, the refinishing will get rid of what's in the wood..as for the grilles, I have some Heresys that I got, and they had that smell..taking my wife's advice, I saturated the grilles w/Febreeze (where's that trademark key??) and let them dry..the smell was almost gone..try a few applications and it will disappear! Enjoy yer new speaks!! Regards, Steve
  19. Tom, I'm gonna assume you check the Klipsch BB every morning before leaving the house..if so..here's my advice..I move stuff an awful lot in,be it in airplanes or in a pickup..I do hope the bed of the pickup has a shell..they will be a lot better protected! But in either case, top or no top..as mentioned above, make sure you have visqueen, blankets/padding to go around the speakers and a pallet or a piece of plywood between the Horns and the bed..what with the width of a standard P/U and the width of the KHorns, you're not gonna get them both face down side by side//they're probably gonna have to go on their sides. Remove the grilles on the side by removing the wingnuts preventing damage to the grilles..when you load the speakers side by side ensure you separate them with a piece of styrofoam..the wood finish can get rubbed thru blankets..and when you wrap the blankets/visqueen around them, make sure the visqueen is on the outside! Although it protects against the elements it is VERY abrasive! Last, but not least, lash them down with cargo straps to prevent shifting..but very importantly..place thick cardboard between the cargo straps and speakers where the straps cross! If you don't the force can really damage that wood! I'm not near as knowledgable as most here concerning electronics, but I have been in the shipping business for 30 years!! Hope this helps, and hey..welcome to the world of KHorns!! The best there is!! Regards, Steve PS..if the Chev is a crew cab, and it's only two of you on the road trip, unscrew the top cabinet and stash em on the back seats! But belt 'em down in case of sudden stops!!
  20. They'll sound fine Marie..you'll never regret getting a pair of KHorns..I've heard all the Heritage speakers, and in my opinion, the KHorns are the ultimate. Had mine for over 20 years, and will never replace them! Erik's a lucky guy!! Regards, Steve
  21. Hi Ben yes, I have Shadows and Light too..hey, the concert just came out on DVD and they did a pretty good jpb of it..Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny look like teenagers there! Hell, maybe they are!! Worth a look if you get the chance! I did put a 16 x 9 widescreen Toshiba in my music room,(probably sacrelig to some) but I just watch DVD music concerts..all in 2 channel..the surround system is in the house, and that's just fine for regular movies. Not in the music room though!! Regards, Steve
  22. actually that's the best part! Our winters are really mild compared to most places on the east coast!! Alaska is so big, the climate is varied. Now, I wouldn't want to live in Barrow, mind you, but here we only get down to, say 20 above in the winter..rarely have I see it hit zero. Besides, I'm in the warm music room relaxing!! Good luck getting yer own place..you'll never go back to apartment living!! Regards, Steve
  23. ah, I feel better..a dedicated music room (like Ears) and only one neighbor a long ways away..life in Alaska is great! Loud as I like, late as I like..what more could I ask?? Steve
