  1. Thank you for all the kind words. The attenuator and selector is from khozmo which is the component division of hattor. This attenuator alone is amazing, but it really shines with the ACF-2.

The casework is is a passion of mine, it allows me combine metal and woodwork. I get better with every project.

while this pre-amp may not present a sonic improvement to every system, it has greatly improved the sonics of mine.

  2. So... after what feels like forever I have finally completed this build. I had to make many changes along the way, but I am happy with the final product. After A great deal of listening I decided the SP-14 circuit was not the best for my system. Too much gain. So I sent it on it’s way and went a different route. In the spirit of keeping this system all tube I opted for a ACF -2 octal from glassware. This is a buffer. There are many options for tubes, but I decided to use 6sn7. I was originally splitting my source signal to an amp for my speakers and sub. This sounded good, but now it sounds much better. The bass is cleaner and my speakers have an increase in detail. I am very happy with the sonic results. I would definitely recommend this project to anyone running multiple amps or driving long cables.

The best best part is I can toggle between sources again without having to change cables. That was getting annoying.

  3. I saw you posted on diyaudio too. I was disappointed to see that the dg300b boards were no longer on neurochrome.com I too was planning on undertaking this project. I was going to wait though until my pre amp was complete to order boards.

    I finished it Sunday.

    Bummer.

Best of luck on the search for boards. I have already started looking for alternative 300b or 2a3 projects.

I bought a pair of bass bins that look similar to those a few years ago, and still haven't moved them from the warehouse they were/are in. The ones I bought have EV drivers. If someone is in need of them, let me know.

Great, now I am thinking about them again🤔

  5. I’m not sure if the dark stain would have been as interesting in some of the other areas were the grain is spread out. I feel that stain brings out detail in tightly grouped grain. When it is spread out it looks like stain on plywood, just not quite right. Oils help the plywood because they just subtly highlight the grain. I’m a fan of oil though.

Great project by the way. I picked up a pair of Heils when they were on sale with this in mind.

I thought now would be a good time to Thank You for the information you regularly provide.

I never comment because it's better to let them think I'm stupid than to open my mouth and prove it.

Truly Do want to say thanks  because even when a subject goes over my current understanding you try to make it easier for people like myself to understand. Even when I don't completely grasp the info provided , I am thinking and thus growing. There a several others here that also do this and really what a great benefit to us all !

                                                                                                                             Thanks

                                                                                                                                           Gary

    Indeed,

Every time I contemplate a new speaker project I return to these threads here and on diya that Chris has started. I do not have the knowledge to implement a MEH project on my own, but I believe the MEH will be the ultimate speaker. I just can’t justify any other speaker to replace my diy la scalas. I really hope the MEH project develops into something within reach.
