  1. DUDE BRO!!! Same setup I posted earlier in Aug. Lol. Even my profile pic is the early setup. All I did was clean up the wires. Wooooot for hiding wires. When I get home, I will post some new ones to this thread. I never could get the gallery to work. And I don't have Flickr, just OneDrive.
  2. I have the 160M and a whole different setup. The center will struggle with filling the room, and I agree with K5SS. I also have the R-115SW. My room is about 20x24. I needed the sub in my smaller room, so the sub is almost a must. Welcome to the forum!
  3. I have some room consumption going on, but I like it. Speakers everywhere! Nice setup swa99a, happy listening!
  4. 2 Velodyne HGS-18II!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy crap!!!
  5. This question get's to the heart of the matter. An accepted definition of one verses the other and their physical properties that clearly dine each. Now, I will not argue that some subs sound better with music depending on your taste for music. But, a well designed sub, ported or sealed when setup properly with the mains should sound good. The peaks, ring and other things goes back to design and setup. Trying to use a sub in a typical room without DSP/PEQ does not hold merit since the room is 50% of what you are hearing. Today, many sub drivers have stronger motor and can be tuned lower which mitigates the issues of group delay and phase shifts that happen below tunning in vented system. Joking aside, I agree. Calibration of a system is also key. I had peaks before calibration. Many setups can benefit from tuning. Source material matters beyond all belief too. You could have the best system money can buy, but if you don't have a good source, no amount of processing can fix what isn't there. My R-115SW is great and I love it. Having said that, it is by no means the best sub ever conceived by man. (Even though Klipsch RULES!!!) Yet after tuning/calibration with the rest of the system, my music sounds as though I am at the performance.
  6. I beg your pardon? You are joking right? I mean, I hope so, but I'm not a sub expert, so..... conversely, subs with integrated hulu and netflix support would be considered "HT" subs, yes? I agree. I have a social media sub with Facebook and a little camera so I can Instagram.
  7. Hello everyone. Just wanted to pass on my experience with the new RP-280F (Reference Premeir) set I bought about a month ago. The whole system shines whether playing music or movies. 5.1 channel reproduction is clear and powerful, even at reference levels. Here is the real kicker for music lovers: Using 5.1 for high-def music, yes, naitively recorded 5 channel source, I felt as though I was at the performance. Metallica live Madison Square Garden. 2-Channel - Amazing reproduction with my vinyls. Detail is spot on, and the new horns are powerful, but far more mellow than horns of yore! Just wanted to start this post so prospective buyers have some feedback.
  8. I think Cerwin Vega did at one point. But we don't need to talk about them...
  9. That is like the third post today for selling Klipsch products in Minnesota! Don't tell me Minnesota is selling all it's Klipsch!!!
  10. True. To add to that, whilst digging deep, if it can maintain accuracy during a challenging drum set for example, Blackness by Metallica. Obviously some subs are 'better' than others. I agree with CECAA850, definition and accuracy whilst remaining powerful.
  11. I am using a Pioneer Elite SC-91 driving 5.1.4, and during 2-channel reproduction, I have incredibely crisp sound. I listen to Jazz, 80's Rock, some of Hippy Hoppy. See my signature for my system specs.
  12. Much respect, here is another perspective. Just for the sake of the forum. Teaman makes very good points and please take into account his statements. I agree with what you said, even though I made a counter point within my first post. That said, the power loss is not that extreme when pushing to reference levels. Post tuning with the Dirac, obviously using pre-amp out from Pioneer Elite, I was worried about significant power loss. So I tested at near reference level with my SC-91 with 5 channels driven. Pioneer managed 128W per channel at near reference level. In conjunction with my pc and a multimeter, I was able to figure this out by using a tone generator to feed a constant stream of audio to the speakers. Then, for good measure, I used an action movie (Live Free or Die Hard) during the plane chase sequence. Never dropped below 125W. ***Note: Results consistant most likely due to using crossover at around 70Hz. Does relieve the stress on the 5 channels due to the sub being powered.***
  13. I just watched Pacific Rim. Terrible movie, but holy crap does it pound!

I bet music from those Vinyls sounds like you are at the performance. Absolutely great setup!
  15. Now, what I am about to say is only a BASIC rule of thumb. In general, having a separate amp is usually a better way to go. "IN GENERAL" Having said that, your 3008 is more than enough to power RF-82 and RC62II. Tech things to consider: Just because speakers are rated at 150W RMS handling, does not mean it takes that much to drive them efficiently. Before my Pioneer Elite SC-91, I was using an Onkyo TX-NR 807. It was of lesser design that your 3008, and I drove 2 DCM KX12 Series 2 250W huge speakers, an RC 62II, and KLH surrounds. All but the RC-62II was efficient. You are driving smaller speakers that are more efficient than my old setup, and my amp in my 807 didn't break a sweat, even during Avengers cranked to very high levels. Sorry for the round about story. Case in point. If you have the money, any purist will tell you go with the separate amp. And I will tell you that on some level it will sound "better", but not world class changing. I recently tuned my system using a dirac processor which requires a separate amp from your receiver. My ears work fine, and the processor I used could barely tell the difference between the Pioneer Elite, and the $4000 Marantz amp I was using to test. Receivers have come a long way, still not perfect, but yours' is fine for that setup, unless you have microphones for ears and software for a brain. LOL Hope that is of some help. Others in this community will help too. This is a close community.
  16. I agree. Even though I am perfectly happy with my system, everytime I see something else, I get the 'bug'.
  17. I will troll some of the For Sale By Owner Posts and see if anything pops up for you.
  18. It could be argued that every piece of a good HT setup is crucial...and it is. But, really, if you are trying to save money, don't save it on a cheap center. You plan of getting a good center and upgrading to better L/R channels later is a far better idea than just budget everything. I hope others reading this thread will agree, that the center channel is the key ingredient. Although, most of us in here are sound addicts, politically correct term is (Audiophiles), which I hate. I stated several posts ago in your thread, get what sounds right for you and get it cause you want it.
  19. Center channel is "in my opinion" the most crucial piece. It handles most all dialogue, and many effects. Take your time when choosing. I feel this piece will either help develop your love of home theater, or destroy it if you make the wrong choice. Real crisp vocals and powerful sound are what good centers do. Please please keep asking for advice. I will list a few in my next post.
