  1. Why would you recommend a totally mis-matched center speaker.  The RC would stick out like a sore thumb timbre' wise between a pair of Forte's use the correct center another Forte or the Academy that was designed to match.

    Ever tried it?

I enjoy when people comment on things when they haven't experienced them themselves. Had this conversation before. I've been a musician for 30 years and have perfect pitch. To me, they work great with each other.

  2. have not heard them please share your thoughts!

The RF-7II sounds thicker and goes deeper than the 280. A lot more detail too.

The Forte III has MUCH better midrange than either of them. They don't go quite as low as the 7s, but they do everything else better: tighter bass, better midrange, more detail, and 0 fatigue.

  3. Do you have a pair of Forte III?  Quite a few have purchased them, all with great reviews.  Curious how they compare to the Forte II because in my room (very large, open floorplan with no corners to put them in), the bass was thin and the wife doesn't want a sub since I have (4) RSW-15's in the theater room.

I do have a pair of forte III. They are absolutely amazing. They don't need to be super close to the wall, but I wouldn't go too much farther than 2 feet away from the wall. They sound better than my Chorus II.

The 115 is significantly better for movies, it just digs deeper.  Two 12's could potentially smooth out room modes better but it's still going to be lacking around 18-20 hz.  I say get one 15 with the goal of getting a second in the future.

+1. The 115 is most definitely better than the 112. The 112 isn't bad, but it doesn't go as deep, and with less cone area it will, by its very nature, have more distortion than the 115. Contrary to popular belief, a smaller driver is NOT "faster."

Even if you don't listen loud enough to notice the differences in potential distortion, you'll notice how much deeper the 115 goes.

  5. The R-115SW is a great sub. I can't speak for the SW-115 though. I did own the SW-311 which was also good, but didn't go very deep. I'd recommend getting an R-115SW both because of its performance and availability of parts if anything happens.

I wonder if anyone has had the chance yet to compare them to the old Forté IIs. I assume the III would be a significant upgrade to the II but I'm just curious if there are any specific areas where the IIIs really stand out compared to the IIs.

I've owned the Forte I and I have the Chorus II.

To me, the Forte III is a totally new speaker and doesn't sound like the older ones. It is VERY realistic sounding.

  7. I haven't heard the 4.5, but I have heard the 4.2, which is very similar with a passive radiator instead of the port. I'd give the win to the Quartets. To me they have a much tighter sound, and better midrange. They are one of my favorites and I regret selling mine.
