  1. By avp you mean Audio video processor right? What do you think of Emotiva processors?
  2. This whole thread makes me kinda nervous as to weather maybe my K horns aren't as good as I think they are either. I think they sound good but I'm no expert. Anyone here with new K horns care to Share your thoughts?
  3. I've heard pioneer was taken over by onkyo. I'd this true, and if so is onkyo any good? I have no experience with them.
  4. This is very discerning that 2 people have bought brand new La Scala's and neither thought they sounded that good. Perhaps that's why when I was on my quest for K-horns many people said the older the better. Anyone else that bought newer generation La Scala's want to share their experience? I know @Lost240 had a pair that he didn't seem to hold on to for that long. I think they were the latest generation too. Would you care to tell us how your experience was with them?
  5. I don't know don't you think when the new networks arrive switching those out could void the warranty just the same as trying the networks from the 78's? I'd personally do it and see how it is. As long as your careful no one would ever be able to tell you did anything.
  6. I was wondering that too but the smaller door looks like it could be a closet. Other door may be a secondary entrance.
  7. Well I'm not sure if your part of the facebook Klipsch owners group but one of the people that test the speakers said they don't actually play music through them they just do a frequency sweep so it's pretty easy to see how something like this could have slipped under the radar. Another thing I thought about and mentioned in the facebook thread was that it could be possible that they aren't broken in yet but I believe OP said he's had them for a month or more. I know when I first got my K-horns I wasn't too happy with how they sounded compared to my La Scala's and even made a thread about perhaps needing to upgrade my AVR/AMP but I have to say as time has passed they are really starting to open up and amaze me like I knew they should! When I first got them though, the sound was pretty shrill, thin and NOTHING like my 88 La Scala's but thankfully that has changed. Another thing worth mentioning though is when I first got my Chorus's I set them up in my room and they sounded fantastic but I for some reason had the bright idea to re arrange my room and completely move the speakers against another wall and it made it sound absolutely so god awful, basically just like your situation it sounded like the whole lower end of the frequency range had been wiped out. It was so bad in fact, I stayed up basically all night putting everything back the way it was. I know you said the old ones were arranged the exact same way in the room and sounded amazing but perhaps these just don't agree with that room. I know they use different/updated drivers now compared to then, maybe they are interacting with the room differently. I'm certainly no expert just stating my past experiences. I really hope the new crossovers make a difference, can't wait to hear how it goes.
  8. I'm very curious as to how this turns out. I saw you posted about this on the facebook group too. When are the new crossover's due to arrive, have they shipped them out yet?
  9. What solid state amps would you recommend that come close to tube quality for 2 channel? I know I have seen many people say they run Pioneer for heritage stuff and and I for one used to as well. I had the Pioneer VSX-90 which I thought sounded incredible and to be honest a little better than the Marantz but there was that whole issue with the flickering that I made a thread about a couple months back but actually that turned out to be an issue with my computer and had nothing to do with my AVR. So I basically ended up exchanging the Pioneer when there was really nothing wrong with it.
  10. Ya, I've thought of that myself just using a dedicated 2 channel for audio and switching when I want to use HT. I've also thought of the fact that perhaps they aren't fully broken in yet but I don't know I hear different things some say speaker break in is a myth some say it isn't but I will say with all the speakers I have bought new like the RC-64II I remember when I first got it I was very underwhelmed and thought it sounded extremely thin and tinny but as time passed and it broke it, I noticed a huge difference and it quickly became one of my favorite centers. Same thing with the RP-450C when I first got that one I think I even made a thread about how bad it initially sounded.
  11. Yes, I'm not sure how many know this but the 70th anniversary ones do come with closed backs. That's a big reason why I chose them.
  12. Well one thing that I think is good, is that the room they are in, has a drop ceiling which is made of that absorbent material which I am sure helps. Wouldn't that be correct?
  13. Yes, see that's the whole thing. I would hate to spend all that money on a tube amp for it to be a barely noticeable difference. There is an audio shop close to me that sells vintage audio gear but the guy actually told me instead of me taking an amp home I'd have to bring my speakers to his store which was absolutely ridiculous.
  14. The only thing I can really do on that list is the carpet which I do have and put something soft on top of them. Other than that the room they are in isn't big enough and the ceiling is not 8 ft. I'd say it's probably 7 at best.
  15. As I'm sure all of you know I recently got K-horns and love them but one thing I have noticed over my La Scala's is that they are extremely piercing where the La Scala's seemed to be smoother. I have heard many people say that using tube amps greatly smooths things out. I have tried running Audyssey and switching settings which makes it better but still not great. I was speaking with someone on the Klipsch owners thread on facebook who recommended this amp. Butler TDB-5150 I'm sure some of you here have heard of it. This is pretty much what I was always looking for. I never knew they had tube amp's that supported over 2 channel. Even before I got the K-horns I've always been told that tube amps were the way to go with heritage gear. I would love to hear everyone opinions on this.
  16. Ya, those are incredible!
  17. I actually bought it with that intention in mind. I wanted LCR La Scala's and had them as mains already so when I was looking for another, I couldn't find anyone willing to just sell one that's why I ended up with two.
  18. Ya I was but they didn't show all the nicks and scratches because it was all low light pictures and they never mentioned that they were not original color. I'm not sure if the guy even knew, he really didn't seem to know much he just had an idea of what they were and what they were worth.
  19. I've got 2 Klipsch La Scala's color black. I will not lie to you guys they aren't in the best shape. The guy I bought them from said they were in his basement when he bought the house. The serial number paper is gone on both of them, they look like they were painted and black wasn't their original color. They have type AL crossovers. They are dinged up but they do have wheels and they do sound great! Klipsch sign is missing from both of them. Considering their condition I am definitely not gonna be asking much for them, in fact I'd like some of you to take a look and tell me what you think they are worth. I paid 500 a piece for them but when I purchased them it was pitch black stored in the guys shed and I had just driven about 3 hours one way to get them and I was tired and just wanted to get back home. I will definitely not be asking that much for them. When I got home and saw the condition, I knew I overpaid but it is what it is as I said they do still sound fantastic. Could be a really great project for someone that might want to refinish them. Asking 800 I do have a truck and I can deliver within a reasonable distance.
  20. Well I just wanna thank everyone that stuck by me during this thread and gave me someone to vent to throughout this whole thing. I hope everyone here that's been viewing this thread and everyone on the Klipsch forum for that matter is having an amazing Christmas eve and has an even better Christmas tomorrow!
