  1. I have had the Onkyo TX-DS797 since December and am very satisfied with it. It is 6.1 ready and THX certified and has pro logic II. Also the remote is very user friendly. I got it for $800 which included shipping from J&R music world. It is hooked up to KLF-30's, KLF-C7, some hopefully soon to be replaced JBL surrounds and a JBL 4638. Benny
  2. I bought a KLF-C7 from u-bid 6 months ago and had no problems with the transaction. You just have to factor in their outrageous shipping charges to decide if you are getting a good deal or not. If you can get them for around 300 a piece that is still a very good deal, even with shipping of 107 a speaker. Benny
  3. FYI: I have coins dating back to 1916 and they all have IN GO WE TRUST. God was added to the pledge of allegiance in 1954. Benny This message has been edited by force95 on 06-30-2002 at 09:51 PM
  4. I have owned KLF-30's for over a year now and I have been nothing but throughly impressed with their performance. The only very small complaint I have is I can't seem to get as much bass out of them as I wan't. SPL is not a problem at all with these speakers. They will play loud and clear louder than you can stand to listen!! I think the bass is more of an amp situation as anything. I am using an Onkyo TX-DS 797. It does excellent for home theatre, but I am going to keep my eye out for a tube amp for 2- channel stereo music. Don't get me wrong they do put out good bass, but maybe my expectations are to high. I have a JBL 4638 to satisfy my bass craving for now. I hope to get one of the new SVS's when they come out in the fall. Benny
  5. lynm didn't you just blow your own post out of the water by even replying!!!! Go forrest!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I have the same P.E amp you have with the 4638 and have not had any problems. I have had it about a month and have played it for extended times and have not had a problem. It gets a little warm, but not any warmer than you would expect. I am using an Onkyo TX-DS797 with KLF-30's. Benny
  7. I know the parts express plate amp says to connect the line signal to the right red input, but would you gain anything from using a Y splitter and plugging into the left and right input? Benny
  8. I went to a double header at the Houston Astrodome in the late 70's with a 1978 Z-28 and came back out and found that my car had been broken into. They tried to steal the radio, but didn't get it. I guess something scared them off. They did leave me two beers in my ice chest!! Went back about a month later to another double header and went back out to find the whole car was gone this time. We rode around with the security guard, because he thought I just didnt know where I parked my car. My parents ended up having to come pick me up, about a 100 mile tound trip. A very dis-heartening experience to have your car stolen. It was never found. Benny This message has been edited by force95 on 03-29-2002 at 07:08 PM
  9. I know the literature for the JBL 4638 says the impedance is 4 ohms. On the 4638 I got last week the sticker on the back says it is 8 ohms. Is this just the wrong sticker, or is it saying that each speaker is 8 ohms and since it is wired in parallel the impedance is 4 ohms? What does everyone elses sticker say? Benny
  10. I know a lot of people on this board say not to use Onkyo receivers with Klipsch speakers. Music listening is a personal preference and each person hears music a little differently. With that said I bought an Onkyo TX-DS797 ( after reading all of the negative responses on this board)to use with my KLF-30,s and KLF-C7 , and some JBL surrounds (hope to get some KSP-S6 if I can find for a decent price). I also auditioned the Denon-3802, an HK-AVR-520, and a Yamaha RX-V3000. These were auditioned with Klipsch speakers. I chose the Onkyo based on sound, features and ease of use. No it's not the best looking receiver in the world, but to me it sounded the best, had the most features I wanted and was the best value of the ones I tested. I could not tell a major difference between the sound of any of these receivers. And probably if you blind folded people and had them listen to these receivers 95% couldn't tell which receiver they were listening to. Just my two cents. Benny
  11. Then why do they have a sticker that says 8 ohms? And what about the front grills? Thanks Benny
  12. Well I got my 4638 today. I didn't tell my wife exactly how big it was so she was kind of shocked. My question is on the sticker in back with serial number it says the impedance is 8 ohms. In the literature I downloaded from JBL it says the impedance is 4 ohms. What does everyone elses stickers say? And which is correct? Also I just assumed it came with a front grill, which I guess it doesn't since mine didn't have one. To make it more tasteful for my wifes decor, I am going to have to do something to cover the front. Any suggestions? Thanks Benny
  13. I also have a JBL 4638 coming. I already have in hand the parts express 250 watt amp. My question is the literature with the amp describes how to modify the EQ by changing 2 resistors out. What exactly does this mean, and has anyone done this? Thanks
  14. Are all the 4638's black. Does that 216.60 include shipping?
  15. I go the Onkyo 797 at Christmas and I am very happy with it. It drives my KLF-30's and KLF C-7 well along with the rear surrounds. Haven't gotten around to getting a rear center yet. The remote is also very user friendly compared to the other programmable remotes that have come with other receivers I have. One reason I picked the 797 over the Denon 3802, was because a lot of reviews I had read said the 3802 remote was not very user friendly. And looking at them in person it appeared that way also. The only complaint I have is I cant seem to get all the bass I wan't when in 2-channel mode, and this is with the bass turned up to +12. Maybe I am just expecting to much! Any suggestions about getting more bass would be appreciated.
