  1. You don't sound pesty, you sound like a Negative Nellie. Sight unseen, I would treat a pre-built cab in the same way I would any DIY project. It has the most worth to you if you want to hot rod it and keep it, and then do not expect to recoup your money as traditionally replicas do hot hold their value. I would except this generalization for cabs that have obvious workmanship and quality. I value a good pair of Khorns in excellent condition around $2.5K to 3K depending on all the usual factors of condition, crossover type, age, location and rarity of finish. There seems to be a wide range for these as I've seen them on the low end at $1500 and $3500 at the topish end, so $2K or less for a good pair is a bargain. Which of the stock crossovers are most desirable?
  2. so with all that said... what up, Klipsch?
  3. I was thinking about #3 & #6, but your other questions have me wondering seriously if this is a good idea, even if they're for stupid cheap.
  4. Good argument for the downside. At what price do you think original K's are a bargain?
  5. You live in Seattle. A pair of factory made Speakerlab K's will pop up at a bargain. Just need to wait. At what price are Speakerlab K's worth it? I've heard the crossovers aren't good and if the drivers aren't as good as Khorns why bother?
  6. For the most part i agree with this. I would just increase my max by about $200- $500, to get some better quality drivers/networks.Sent from my SM-N920P using Tapatalk At $1500, I would probably lie in wait for a proper pair of Klipschorns at a bargain price.
  7. Maybe it is, and maybe it isn't realistic market-wise. Design-wise, are horns superior for bass or is it just a personal preference? It would be interesting to hear what Klipsch says officially - anyone know whether this has been addressed in the past? Oh, and I would happily volunteer to test any horn-loaded sub Klipsch cares to serve up for the home market... ; )

  9. Well, there's THIS. A bit overkill, isn't it? I'd prefer to stay 15" on the drivers, besides.
  10. Please forgive me for asking a question I'm sure has already been asked, but why doesn't Klipsch offer a horn-loaded sub for home audio?
  11. So I saw a listing this morning for replica Klipschorn cabinets, made to PWK specs. No drivers or crossovers. The owner recommends re-veneering since they were built 30 years ago. Would you go for it? If so, what would be your total budget for the cabs, drivers and crossovers? How much work would it take to do it right?
  12. I'm hoping that isn't the case. They look like the right design and there's no obvious evidence of these being replacements. Will have to see when they're opened up.
  13. I have no issues with the horn whatsoever, it's the mids and bass which are my problem. Definitely will check out with a tech to see if it's this pair.
  14. On a related note - how do you like your CF-2's? I'm not liking a pair I just bought and trying to figure whether it's a bad pair or if I'm just not crazy about their sound.
  15. Which JBL's are the ones to look for - pro line or hi-fi? I see a bunch of JBL's on Craigslist it's hard to tell which ones really justify the higher prices.
  16. Thanks for weighing in. There's a loudspeaker tech in my area who specializes in Klipsch. Will call him after the 4th and let everyone know what happens.
  17. Power source - are you referring to amplifier or how current is getting to the amp? If the former - a pair of Odyssey Stratos Mono; if the latter - just using a standard home power outlet.
  18. That's what I'm starting to wonder. What do you think are the most likely things that could be wrong with them?
  19. Score! I grabbed one earlier today. Thank you, thank you!!
  20. You're right - I just measured. So why don't 2 x 8" woofers in the CF-2's sound nearly as good as the single 8" woofer in the KG 3.5's?
  21. Btw - I don't expect these to replace what can be done with a good subwoofer. KG 3.5's with 8" long through woofer make me wonder what isn't working with the CF-2's twin 6.5" woofers, though...
  22. Hoping someone who's owned Epic CF-2 or other Epic series speakers can help - I picked up a pair of Epic CF-2 speakers this week but they don't sound so great. I would have failed them at the demo but thought the space might have had something to do with dissipating bass (1,500 sq. ft. garage with bay doors wide open). What don't I like? Simply put, they aren't nearly as musical as the pair of KG 3.5 I bought two weeks ago. The highs are decent, but mid range and bass are both muddy and poorly defined. The KG 3.5's playing Eva Cassidy "Live at Blues Alley" blow them in detail - and they're not even that detailed! So, what gives - is it possible this is a bum pair and need crossovers replaced? Or is the KG series more musical, more natural-sounding? Is it too much to ask for CF-2's to handle 2-channel duty; are they better as rear surrounds above 80 Hz? Any help would be appreciated - thanks! --Scott O.
  23. Thanks, Colterfoto1. Still learning. Btw, has anyone seen a funky bass bin for mid-70's La Scala's? Like it's got a couple of extra baffles on it.
  24. And what is up with that top cabinet?? I don't think it's a k-horn and it's certainly not a square La Scala cab. $300 tops, and that's only because the exchange rate is so favorable.
