  1. They arrived today and good lord, that's a cable. Lol This wire has an outer pvc jacket around a twisted pair of insulated wires so that's where most of the size and weight comes from. Very flexible though as all of you have stated. Going to need to install some cable restraints on my rack to take the strain from the weight of the cable off of the lugs on my amp. Going to terminate the banana's and install them tomorrow. Good thing is if I don't like them I'm not out big dollars and can easily order some of the smaller gauge wire. I also picked up a Krystal RCA cable from them for my sub. Looks like a quality well constructed cable as well. Think I'll try the Krystals out on my turntable first to see if I notice a difference between the $14 Krystal and the $120 Audioquest Big Sur I'm using now. I'm taking bets that I won't be able to hear a difference.
  2. Yeah I know. It was only five bucks more to get the 8 gauge in the length I needed so I thought why not.
  3. http://www.knukonceptz.com/home-theater/speaker-wire/karma-ss-speaker-kable/sp/karma-ss-8-gauge-speaker-wire-/ Just ordered some of this speaker wire to replace a 25 year old set of 12awg Monster cables. Decided to get the largest wire my Nakamichi Banana plugs could terminate so I went with 8 gauge. Looks like a pretty good bang for the buck. Anyone have experience with this wire, performance, sound etc…?
  4. Be sure to anchor the filing cabinet to the floor. Those things like to tip over with just paper in the top drawer. I can only imagine the catastrophe awaiting when it's full of vinyl. I'll admit I have some Beatles albums in my collection but Barry Manilow? Is that a thing?
  5. Wow! That thing is massive and super nice. I really like the drawers. They should make browsing selections a breeze. I may have to rethink my priorities after seeing that one.
  6. Ive been eying it for a while. I'm outgrowing my current storage setup that forces me to store my LP's like a bookcase which I hate since I'm blind and can't read the rib. Thought about going the milk crate route but my knees and back starting giving me fits way before my eyes went south so the elevated rack keeps looking like a smart choice.
  7. This one is pretty nice and a lot cheaper. https://www.lpbin.com/lpbin2.html
  8. I'm guessing a bad phono preamp or MM/MC not selected properly?
  9. I can only answer #2 Graham Nash with 90% certainty so for that reason I'd like to use a lifeline and ask the audience.
  10. My amp is integrated. I've always had separates in the past but decided to go integrated with the Rotel based on the good reviews it received. I'm very happy with it. I swore years ago I'd never buy an integrated but here I am. Lol Once I get the new cdp I'll try the digital coaxial first since I have that cable on hand to make that connection. If not satisfied then I'll purchase a set of XLR cables. I guess basically it's going to boil down to which cable will offer the best signal transfer since the DAC on the cdp and the DAC on my amp are identical.
  11. Great story RT. Glad you could provide equipment so the old man can continue to enjoy his hobby. I've taken my son to some vintage vinyl stores and even bought some vinyl in his genre for him to spin in hopes he'd catch the bug. He's 17 and right now he loves the convenience of his iPhone and Edifer powered Bluetooth speakers. One day…
  12. Hi Chris and thanks for the info. I'm running a strictly two channel system with a Rotel RA 1570 providing the power. HDMI is not an option for me but i understand how much better it is. I'm leaning more toward a Rotel RCD 1572 that offers a XLR connection over the standard RCA. I'm not that familiar with SPDIF except for knowing it requires an outboard DAC to process the signal. I'm really impressed with the Wolfson DAC in my amp and how it handles my MP3 files and the cdp I'm looking at offers the same DAC onboard the player. From your info I gather that XLR would be a better choice over the SPDIF and I'd be willing to pay a little extra for that if it offers a substantial improvement in soundstage. Thanks!
  13. I agree 100% percent with your philosophy on paying cash for purchases. If I can't pay cash for it I don't buy it. I thank my dad for instilling that knowledge in me. I'm lucky to have the ability to upgrade but I try to keep it financially reasonable. Why I'd love to have a $20k plus system I don't see the benefit considering my room acoustics and limitations my current floorplan has for making any improvements to that. I could however part with some older equipment. I still have my first purchase amp, preamp, tuner, turntable, and cassette deck. They're still in working order and sound great but my sentimental value is higher than what they'd sell for so I continue to hold on to them. One day I'll part with them but it will probably be as a donation to one of my kids when they move out and show an interest in something other than ITunes and Spotify. Lol
  14. Looking into upgrading my CD player. Which of those connections to the amp would provide the best sound? Not all of the cdp's I'm looking at have a XLR option but all have RCA and digital outs. I'm looking at Rotels to match my amp. The DAC Rotel uses on their cdp is the same DAC I have onboard my amp. It's a Wolfson 192/24. So I guess the big question is would the XLR out offer an improvement over the digital out since both DAC's are the same?
  15. A lot of great history with all of your posts. I'm still fighting my addiction and my wife although understanding is I believe starting to get upset. I just recently purchased a Klipsch R-10SWi less than a month ago. Talk about enhancing the Epic CF-2's. That sub does the trick quite nicely so my search for some CF3 or CF4's has ended. I've been wanting to replace my CD player with a new Rotel RCD 1572 to match my RA 1570 integrated and ran across an open box item on EBay at a $200 savings from retail price. I was able to pass the sub off as a Christmas present for myself so now I'm trying to figure out how to present the CD player purchase. She knows my current cdp is out of date and she's even acknowledged the sound quality of the cdp s not there since I've updated my amp and turntable. Im probably worrying over nothing. I should just buy it. I'm sure she'll like it and approve once she hears it.
  16. An addiction isn't always a problem unless of course the dealer is out of stock.
  17. When did you know you had an addiction to audio gear? I figured it out when getting settled into my first apartment in 1988 and I looked around at the bean bag chairs, the cardboard boxes for end and coffee tables and a $1400 two channel system in the corner.
  18. I just bought the R-SW10i for same price. I wanted wireless but after looking and asking questions on the forum about the connection to my amp I can't utilize the wireless feature. It'll be here Friday according to tracking info. Wonder how easy it'll be to exchange for the 12 you're looking at. Oh yeah, BUY THEM! That's a great price.
  19. Used car for sale. Needs a little body work. Runs good.
  20. Barns are for horses and classic cars not vintage audio. I'm sure the cabinets are juicy and the only components salvageable are the XO's. Shame.
  21. He's got the Macs that were used to drive them also.
  22. I had a Kenwood pre amp that started doing the exact same thing. Meters would surge when powering up. I failed to take appropriate measures to get it checked out and it cost me a horn and Xover.
  23. I'll weigh in on the equalizer. The more you have in the path of the signal from the source to the speaker will add noise and degrade the signal. Also when you increase one frequency you lose some off of another. Optimally you want a pure signal driving your speakers. The newer Rotels incorporate a tone bypass feature. This bypasses the tone controls completely eliminating the degradation they produce because there is nothing else in the path from the source to the speaker. It's a straight shot. Setting your tone controls to neutral or flattening the equalizer is not the same as bypassing them altogether. If you're in the market for new amp check out the new Rotels. I have a RA-1570 and listen to everything with tone bypass on and will never go back to using anything to color the signal. Hope that explanation helps.
  24. Ok. Thank you and appreciate all of your replies. More than likely it'll be placed up front less than 6 feet from amp but would like to experiment with placement. Not a big deal I guess. The R12SW was same price but not wireless. I might exchange for the 12" if I can't use the wireless. Thanks again!
  25. So i can't utilize the wireless transmitter?
