  1. Yes it was. I grew up in Pasadena on the east side of Houston. I couldn't tell you if any other high schools in our area had them. I never asked and at that time I'd never seen or heard of Klipsch but the iconic emblem and name on the front stuck in my head.
  2. For me it was in high school in the early 80's. I was in the band and the band director had a pair of LaScala hanging from the ceiling. We would listen to our recorded performances on them and two or three times a year we'd have a band party on Friday nights. We were allowed to bring our own music in LP format of course and Mark Wilson one of the drummers would bring his Harmon Kardon system up and plug it into the LaScalas. I was blown away with how much clear dynamic sound would fill the band hall being driven by a modest home stereo system. I vowed to one day own a pair of Klipsch and some 20 years later I bought my first pair of Epic CF-2's.
  3. As usual everybody overlooks the red headed step child when talking used speakers. For unparalleled dynamic range take a look at some used Epics. CF-2 good, CF-3 better CF-4 sit down shut up and hold on.
  4. The last house I lived in my room was 20'x32' with carpet. I miss the bigger room. I'm the only one in my family that uses the formal living room where I've got my system set up now so I'm seriously thinking of ditching that huge antiquated entertainment center and dinosaur rear projection TV that I never watch. That would give me a little more breathing room literally. I've found a room with less clutter allows for better sound since there's not much around to absorb and misdirect.
  5. I'm sure they make a pill for your condition. You went from talking shop to dragging the whole warehouse and storefront into the conversation. Joking aside I guess I don't have the bug as bad as you. I've thought about replacing my amp with something more modern. I've looked at adcom, mainly because those are more in the price range I'm willing to spend then I come home turn mine on and think nah, this ones paid for and I know it sounds good with my Epics. Would really love to get my hands on an old Marantz 6300 turntable. I prefer listening to vinyl over CD's and I'm always searching the Internet for out of print LP's. My brother bought a Marantz reciever not sure of the model. Either a 2370 or 2373 and a 6300 new in the mid 70's. He's still got them both but both need a good once over before being put back in service and of course he won't turn loose of them but I can't blame him.
  6. New York by Micro Chip League (MCL). Released around 1986. I picked up the vinyl playing about the same year.
  7. It all depends on your amp and source signal A clean signal will allow you to push them harder without damaging anything. These are my Epic CF-2's being driven at 1/4 power. One speaker has a blown tweeter and crossover caused by my old pre amp that shorted out. New tweeter on the way and I'm sending both crossovers to Bob Crites next week to be rebuilt. If it hadn't of been for my preamp shorting and sending a bad signal to left channel these speakers would have probably gone the rest of my life without needing repair.
  8. I've got a Lloyds portable 8 track player that's pushing more than that premium Corolla head unit. Lol
  9. Agreed with the particular room statement. I've had this system together for over 20 years. My amp is over 30 years. I've moved a lot over the years and each house/room required a different speaker placement to achieve nirvana.
  10. Epic CF-2 speakers Current room is 12'x22' My speakers get moved around a lot depending on how involved I want to get into the music. Best listening area is speakers in opposite corners facing each other and I'm sitting right in the middle about 11' feet from each speaker with one slightly in front and one slightly behind me. No budget set but I'm always looking for improvement. No sub. Two channel amp with no sub outs.
  11. I'm a new member and I'm sure this has been posted before but what the heck. Post your system specs and let's talk shop. I have a Kenwood amp that pushes 125w per channel with 0.03 THD at full rated power 20-20000hz. 0.015 THD at 1/2 rated power and 0.002 1khz at 1/2 rated power with a SNR of 120db and a frequency response of 5-200hz. My turntable is a Kenwood linear track with a P mount Grado red cartridge although I'm currently looking to upgrade if I can find a decent Marantz 6300 that won't break the bank. I've got that paired with a set of Epic CF-2's
  12. Not knocking the speaker at all. It sounds great as expected just not the right choice for my application. I bought my daughter a Beats Pill 2.0 a couple years ago. Great sound volume and bass with little to no distortion at higher listening levels. My neighbors would complain about that thing. It costs $150 more than the Groove and of course they discontinued the larger 2.0 or I would have bought that. The Pill they offer now pales in comparison to the Groove. Just wish Klipsch would offer a higher end option. I'd gladly pay extra for a technically better option.
  13. Curious as to what everyone else thinks of these Bluetooth speakers. I picked one up a few months back. Bought it because of Klipsch's reputation and personal experience with my Epic CF-2's I needed something portable and I demand quality sound reproduction. As expected this little speaker is full of rich crisp sound. The only complaint I have is at higher volume levels it distorts to easy. It wouldn't bother me so much if the level at which it starts to distort was higher but it doesn't take much above mid level listening to push it over the edge. All in all if I had it to do over again I would have gone another route. I bought this for lazing in the hot tub and with the Jets and bubbles the level required to hear it is past its threshold from distortion.
  14. Thanks WVU. I've seen a few of the #1029 drivers online for sale. Those are some pretty tough drivers though. I've put mine to the test on more than one occasion and they handled all I could throw at them. If it hadn't been for my equipment failure which caused the problem in the first place I'd probably be having no issues with them at all. Klipsch replaced one driver under warranty when the dust cap came unglued but other than that they've delivered 20 years of flawless sound. Here's to another 20 after Bob rebuilds my crossovers. By the way Bob, I'm getting one more Saturday night out of them before I pull them apart to ship you the crossovers. They'll still do the job with only one good tweeter. I'll have them in Mail on Monday.
  15. Yes. Sent him a pm and told him I'd take it off his hands. He's getting back with me on payment info. Since parts for these are obsolete and hard to find that's going to stick in the back of my mind everytime I want to open them up. I might start searching now for drivers and buy what I can find just to stock up and keep some spares handy. lol
  16. So much to learn from this thread. My current house has forced me into the formal living room which is about 12'x22'' with wood floors. My epics are on the feet but my last house had carpet which definitely had a dampening effect on the lows. When I'm not listening my speakers are shoved against the same wall about 10' apart. When I want to soak myself in sound I drag those 80 pound cabinets to opposite corners the length of the room and position myself right in the center. My wife thinks I'm crazy and my kids, 20 and 15 years old are finally waking up to music and becoming more understanding with what I'm trying to accomplish. Although I still get yelled at around midnight to turn it down. Pointing out the volume is only on 1 1/2 doesn't present a valid argument in my wife's eyes.
  17. Big thank you to everyone on this site. I've been a member less than one day and have found everything I need to get my Epic CF-2's back in top shape. Jjptkd has hooked me up with a tweeter and gave me Bob Crites info whom I called today and got everything lined up to ship him my crossovers so he can get them back in top shape. I've always been a huge audio fan. Since Dark Side of The Moon and Alan Parsons Project Turn of a Friebdly card were released my search began to find a system that would give me a remarkable listening experience. My search finally ended when I added the Epic 2's to my setup in 1996. Looking forward to getting it back in shape and joining in the discussions on this site..
  18. Replied, Thank you. Looks like I have something else going on with that speaker. I swapped the tweeters between the speakers and the good one didn't work in that speaker either nor did the bad one work where the good one was working. I Swapped them back and now I'm back to square one but a little more deeper in trouble than I thought. Don't know if It fried the crossover as well or if it could be something else. I live in Houston and the closest good repair shop that I know about is Freeman Tuell in Dallas. I have no idea how to test any of this to pinpoint the problem so I'm not wasting dollars chasing a ghost. Any suggestions on where I should start. I have a fluke multimeter so if someone could point me in the right direction I sure would appreciate it. Thank you.
  19. I did at one time but had no luck searching the Internet for a replacement and I've misplaced it. I can call Klipsch tomorrow and get it and get back to you. Thank you!
  20. I've owned my CF-2's since new in 1996. Powered by Kenwood amp 125w per channel at .03 THD. Frequency response is great but the lean toward the high side. Bass is crisp and clear. They sound much better in a big room separated at least 30' apart facing each other. With both speakers directly in front of you they sound busy but give them room to breath and they come alive.
  21. I have a pair of Epic 2's I bought new in 1996. The tweeter in one of them is dead. No output at all. My control amp shorted and there was a loud squeak on that channel and it must have fried it. I've replaced the control amp and all is good except for that. Not a game changer since the other speaker has full output and the Epic 2's are a little on the high side anyway but I'm missing full stereo effect on some of my older albums. Matter of fact it sounds a little mellower with nice mids and bass now on CD's and mp3's but I'd like to find a replacement since my new control amp and equalizer gives me more room for adjustments. Any idea where I can find a replacement for this tweeter? Thank you.
