Who cares how much power the amps have? There's no way anyone would USE all those watts unless they were trying to smoke out Manuel Noriega.

The owner was probably all wrapped up in name-dropping what he owns rather than a love of music.

It was the room acoustics I tell ya!

Dude I remember that, they played a ZRock radio station through megaphones for about ten days and drove that dictator apes*$t !!! Well the tank shells probably helped a little too.

    LaS        X       LaS
    spkr      me      spkr

Nothing else there between them and me.

No bragging done. My jaw hit the floor looking at that audiophile pileup. Recognized the turntable brand from clicking highest to lowest price on a website just for fun. I looked at the stack of components that was literally 4 feet tall at those amps. Looked them up at when I got home.  My shock & dismay in how it all sounded caused this thread.

Looks like you were having fun with that post, damn I just wanted to hear some of the "big" Klipsch again once I found out they were IIs and out of my reach.

Jammed on my last Little Feat record after dinner, I might not sell my old speakers when I get my new ones. They've got it all, just the bass lacks a little for me after all these years.

  2. So that's two of you putting double the 100 watts per channel into them without issue. I'd assumed they would be well built, they're two rungs up the proverbial ladder from my Heresys that are built like tanks.

If I get the chance to listen to more I'll go if it isn't a ten hour drive. I responded to a person somewhere in upstate SC near here with a pair. Also a pair listed in Chattanoga, TN that would be an all in a day road trip.

The LaScalas are a little bigger than I envisioned looking at the dimensions on the screen.

Yea the room wasn't set up for a string quartet. Sparse but rug, curtains large 8' X 10' art with three inch sound deadening triangular foam behind it. I'll repeat I actually feel sorrow for this fella I don't even know. Those $8k speakers are messed up.

    Thaddeus Smith

You ever get a pic of one of those darn snarks? I never could, fast little mofos!

No, not too loud at all. The vocals and sax range of khz was what I would have expected to hear. I crouched between them about 8' from each one. I know the James / Sanborn Double Vision lp, did not sound good.

    Coytee

    Yep Bigger is Better!

If they're only a year old he paid $8k, I can't touch anywhere close to that. If he thought that sounded good, we don't speak the same language PERIOD.

Found this place when I heard about the Forte IIIs. I literally lust after those Black California Walnut ones but I'm not in a high tax bracket so Khorns = too big, Belles & LaScalas = folded bass instead of the direct 15" Cornwall. Haven't heard Khorns since about 1980 and I recall never ending bass and lifelike guitar, piano and vocals.

Some Belles can still be had but what I found was a road trip that would need Bob Crites 4500 crossovers w/ the c125? tweeters. Then of course those dusty mids would have to be replaced & on & on.

Just want more bass without adding a left and right sub. Cleared 5K off a decent credit card Friday.

    Don't want a dependent!

I'll post in the "Look what I just got" imminently.

Not very loud at all in my memories of being 40 feet from Ted Nugent or Black Flag stages several times.

My Heresys with the dial at noon on an 80 wpc with the preamp at 2/3 are more loud.

No did not ask why, I comprehend the want for the best, shiniest, fastest... all of that.

    wvu80

He said he had a not at all amicable divorce recently, ex destroyed lots of lps. Could have been more. Those grade A parasound components don't have shabby specs or reputations. But maybe that class of audio-nuts don't have our knowledge of efficiency and sonic purity that is Klipsch Heritage speakers.

    mike stehr

Serious lack of bass towards "mid-bass" I've owned Heresy IIs since 1991 50hz bass can rattle your bones for sure. Yep tube amps have always been prescribed, my simple ignorance of them probably kept me from looking into them last fall when I spent about $3k on refurbishing my 30 year old worn out stuff.

    USNRET

They are similar speakers but the Belles correspond more closely to the LaScala I  right, the old pdf I've got (Heresy II - La Scala - Belle Klipsch Brochure) show those both dip down to 45hz. That's why I was close to driving all the way up to CT for those Belles in another thread, they are my want it but don't NEED it right now.

    Appreciate it folks.

  5. With all that rambling I didn't articulate my point well.

Could those LaScalas be damaged by the sheer power of those two monster mono amps?

I'll be embarrassed if this guy hears of this thread but I will covfefe to-of-by? my statements.

Phoebe Snow's marvelous voice seemingly turning into a saxaphone passage at one point on an lp.

Bob James / David Sanborn record that I have had for decades myself produced exceptionally lifelike vocal presence and sound.

That Stones garage tapes record released recently didn't have half the depth or complexity that it should have or does in my car or at home from my cd.

    Bad room acoustics?

NO. Something BAD wrong with that setup.

Nothing else could possible explain it. Why would anyone unless just ignorant want to put that many watts of a PAIR of amps onto speakers with 105db sensitivity??

** Well yea acoustics weren't good in that tight situation, but could not have caused what I heard and didn't hear.

  7. Before my `Canes best ex coach and his D beat the Pens, I had the most strange Saturday evening in decades.

There aren't audio dealers in Charlotte, NC anymore. Sound Systems with three listening rooms of three price tiers of equipment to plug your cassette into or play an LP. That is a thing of the last century gone along with common sense & decency being ridiculed by the dumbass masses right now. Or maybe they're still up in Green Bay where HiFiHeaven is.

Called some numbers of authorized Klipsch dealers in my town, one a half mile away. Answering machines, websites set up for pricey home theater installation.

Talked to one guy across town that was a hoot and we chatted for twenty minutes. He had a friend/client that had some LaScalas that had talked about upgrading. He hooked us up.

Parasound JC1s.  Yep one for each channel @400 watts each

VPI?? something or another looked like a $5k turntable with the motor separate from the chassis

about 1 year old Klipsch LaScala IIs in a small living room

    Seemingly decent sociable guy.

    I was f'n impressed.

    Until I heard it.

My sub $5k system sounds so much better: Cambridge CXA80, CXN, CXA, 2016 turntable - not my excellent dead YAH P50, 1991 Klipsch Heresy IIs.

Bass was ?, mid and high frequencies were there with some stunning clarity but not right. The "Big" Klipsch sound of the folded woofer type speaker was there. The so-called sound stage was there, but it was just not good.

I'm not a pressed and pleated gentleman with finesse, I wasn't born yesterday, but I'm not mean-spirited either.

Did he blow these and try to get me to cut his losses?

There could have been some senility in play and the fellow was lost in space? He seemed lucid, not stoned.

I know what my deductions lead me to think. I thought I had problems until earlier this eve.

`K doc, I feel better. Anything this sad and or bogus ever happen to you???

  8. C'mon Guys!

They aren't a flawless used $10k pair, they're an inexpensive set of K-horns.

I thought they would be a steal if they function correctly under the blemishes. My Bad.

Too big for me and my abode.

  9. I'll give this fella a bump, these are sequential numbered Bicentennial Belles from `76 good looking too.

They've been re-listed  https://hartford.craigslist.org/ele/6144129273.html  pics of the labels and crossovers were added.

There has been a capacitor change on the crossovers from the previous owner.

Owner say that they sound terrific, actually had them checked out by an electrician. He seems like a good guy, communicates well with prospective buyers (unlike some others). The things on the bottom corners aren't casters they are those spinning top shaped isolators that screw in. Sitting on some pieces of wood to keep from gouging the floor I think.

  10. Yep I'm looking all over for folded woofer big Ks right now. Didn't really think they looked that bad for the price, but hearing is what's important.....sure you'd agree. If they weren't six hours away I'd go listen.

    Yikes!

Well to be honest the 70th and Spec. Edit. Cornwalls have an almost 50% markup, likewise those sharp Heresy counterparts.

Special editions very soon, was supposed to be early this month.  The normal / cheaper sets probably won't be until next month.

    Wooo HOOOO !!
Even though I had to spend big bucks last week unexpectedly this is still a thrill to hear.

The California Black Walnut is special on other models. Do you know if they are $1800 each or are the regular ones that much.

Don't fret if you don't know, sure I'm not the only one that appreciates your input already.
Thinking driving to New England for 40 yr old big folded woofer Klipsch (needing some Crites help) might not be the best for me. Decisions.......
Going to see some LaScalas downtown here tomorrow before the puck-drop.
Getting excited like a kid that sees something in Christmas wrapping paper on the top shelf of the closet!

Thank you everyone. Sorry - I wasn't meaning to auction...thank you for the info and links-

im in upstate SC, and I'll add pics of the original crossovers when I'm home. Two things worth noting: there is a small dent to one of the corners on one speaker(moving damage), and, we never used these as much as we expected we would.

If I sell, I'll be doing so in Sept. this year, and would like to get 1600$ for the pair.

I have a pair of custom built stands with heavy duty casters to go with if interested. Pics of those coming too...

    Jodieodio,

I'm on the south side of Charlotte 5 min from 77 15 min from 85, looking at $130/day to rent a minivan for a 11hr drive to CT for some more old Belles that would need more tlc than your speakers would. I'd like to hear these! Got bucks now!

The wood grain on that ones face looks pretty good, with a little work they would accept some stain. Let's talk!

@domd817 you are asking good money for good speakers.  It may help your sale to include more information about the speakers such as serial numbers (to help date them) and list any modification or updates.  If there are no mods they are thought of as unmolested.  Many buyers prefer them that way so they can do their own mods, so it is not necessarily bad if they are stock.

    Those are gorgeous speakers!

Hi wvu80, dom sent me more detailed pics showing the backs w/sn stickers when I asked him about the Cornwalls a month ago. He was personable and very helpful then.

I'm wondering if him and the Mrs. have gone on a big vacation. (Hope it's not anything bad.) Pm'd him on the 19th then the post above this am without any response.

Could be he just sold all of those treasures elsewhere.

"Atta-boy Penguins!" (my faves besides my young-now `Canes) You got past Laviolette's D after all tonight!

Had to be grown-up and procure a new washer and dryer my Forte III hopes are dashed, now chasing some beautiful Belles.

Road trip is nigh, either PA@7hrs or CT@11hrs. Belles with 80W behind them might be too much for me at 54. 16 with Terrible Ted & Aerosmith shows, Molly Hatchet/UFO/Judas Priest all in one night while I was a teen was a different story! Seriously doubt I'd turn it half as much like I do on the Heresy IIs.

Still available.  Prefer a local buyer due to figuring out how to ship these monsters.

Hey, you still out there? Let me know if you have these Belle Klipsch. Check your pm.

Know you've got some pics of these 125# gals like you had of those Cornwalls.

I can't swing the Forte IIIs like I've been dead-set on. Necessities don't come cheap when they're appliances.

Haven't priced a rental van yet but it looks like CLT to PIT is less than an 8 hr drive.
If you would allow me a brief audition and assist with loading them this could actually transpire soon.

  16. Only thing I'll hurt dtel is my budget for the rest of 2017!

The nuances of what sounds good to me or to you just can't be explained in sappy Hallmark card words. I read so much of that last year looking for a receiver and then a half-assed new turntable.

One thing I expect from all of y'all Klipsch fans is that the sound we're seeking is true, tonally correct, bass is realistic too. No muddy crap, "No Bullshit!"

Soft & rich for the background or loud at the schoolyard 3 blocks away for glow in the dark frisbee.

Klipsch doesn't have any substitute in my book.

Well, of course the volume level would be decidedly different, but it's not just about volume, it's about overall presentation and balance.

I know you don't know my knowledge level....but you get a dooh!

Descriptive and/or technical info only goes so far. I'm probably goin' full-on pelosi (buy `em before I hear `em).
