  1. Dave, I've been thinking about a Shorthorn/Cornwall modification. If you looked at the Shorthorn as a solid volume, shaped like the Shorthorn top (5 sided), it would fit tight in a corner, have the same interior cubic volume as the Cornwall, and would port between the legs of the face frame. Corner reinforcement might strengthen the bass (!), but I would love to hear from an expert on any theoretical complications or degradation of sound. It would look like a Shorthorn (side grills could be "dummied" over the side panels), but potentially could have performance similiar to the Cornwall. Best of both worlds, in my opinion. I would call it the "Corner Horn Wall". Thoughts, anyone? Chris
  2. Khorn58, From the picture, I don't yet understand the rear porting. Can you post another pic, perhaps from an angle, or maybe describe the porting? Thanks. Chris
  3. Inside - Cornwalls Outside - LaScalas Chris
  4. Can you tell the crossover points from the network? Thanks, Chris
  5. Johnny dB, I'm not arguing with you, but I have vintage gear and use a remote to control volume. I can only do this when using my CD player, which has a "Line Out" volume control. I believe this also controls headphone volume at the CD player too, but I don't yet have headphones to verify. Chris
  6. My friend passed on these, due to the WAF, and I wanted the forum to be aware that they are still out there. The cabinets are in very good shape, and are mirror images of each other, down to the pie slice logos. During the audition, I noticed a SLIGHT buzz in one of the woofers. The woofers look identical, but one has a black dust cap, the other is grey. I am not affiliated with the seller in any way, but would be happy to turn any of you onto the phone number. Local pick-up would be ideal for someone close. Oh, the serial numbers are consecutive, and the letter code is H (1969). Chris
  7. '78 Cornwalls, stamped "AS" and "JC". '67 Cornwalls, no stamps other than serial #
  8. I am not able to run Boxplot or like programs on my Mac, and would appreciate any technical or theoretical advice any of you have to offer. My questions pertain to potential Cornwall mods, and I hope you have the patience to look past my ignorance and explain your answers. 1. If I were to build a cabinet 2" deeper than the Cornwall, but 4.5" shorter (to maintain similiar cubic volume), AND the drivers and port pointed out a side instead of the front, could I expect similiar performance? 2. If I were to build a corner Cornwall, maintaining the same cubic volume and motorboard, but making a 5 sided box (essentially an enclosed Shorthorn), could I expect similiar performance? Thanks in advance, Chris
  9. I won't know much more until tomorrow, and will report back. Might even take my camera! In all fairness, I don't know if there has been any damage or not, but I appreciate the concern. Actually, I don't even know if they were using water, just that the woofers were "wet". This seems to be a fairly knowledgeable shop, and I am hoping for the best, but I am also going to be cautious (take my screwdriver). I probably should have asked more questions, but I was just so damn flabbergasted! Thanks for any more opinions!
  10. PS - I dont need ANYTHING from wal$#%&.
  11. Tomorrow, I have an appointment to look at some Cornwalls from the 60's that are coming into a small, high end audio consignment shop. I called today to see if the Cornwalls had come in early, and they had. The person I spoke with said they wouldn't be ready to audition until tomorrow since the woofer cones were still wet from being "washed". I was told that the speakers were so dusty from storage that they needed cleaning, and time to dry. Isn't this hard to do with a PAPER cone??? Should I be worried?? What should I look/listen for in addition to obvious deformities and deterioration? Chris
  12. I want them all. Single ones could be sold with a string as Domes of Silence wind chimes. They would look good on a belt or hatband, and 30,000 of them would cover my living room floor. Just think how easily (and quietly) I could move my speakers around.
  13. Thanks Bob, Just let me know when you are done with them. I was hoping they would be in great shape, as that would make sense based on the condition of the cabinets and components. I can't wait to fully restore these Cornwalls, with your help. Thanks for your interest and dedication regarding Klipsch speakers and their continued performance. Chris
  14. Bob, I'm still hoping to get the '67 "B" networks from you after you are done with them. Please keep me in mind. Thanks, Chris
  15. Terry and all, Here is a JPG of a Dome of Silence, with a quarter to demonstrate relative size. I had always heard that these "feet" were only for sliding them around during production. Was this sliding "silent", or do these feet serve an acoustic purpose? Chris
  16. Does anyone know if Klipsch still uses, or sells, the "Dome of Silence" feet that came with early Heritage speakers? I don't know what exactly the name refers to, but I am missing two domes. Chris
  17. These were bought (by me) last week. They are '67 vertical horn beauties. Today I found a second pair of '60's Verts for only $495!! I won't be able to see them for another week, and if my friend doesn't get them, I will post on the Forum for one of you. When it rains, it pours around here. Chris
  18. Hi Jess, Welcome to the forum. The La Scalas should be from '81 or '82. Thanks again for the Cornwalls! This forum is where I learned about them. Chris
  19. M00n, These are most likely Speakerlab units. The mid lens is fiberglass, and the mid-driver is probably an Atlas PD-4. Not what you want for your project, but the rest (woofer/tweeter) might be fine. You need to ask about the Ohm rating for each speaker component first, to ensure it is compatible with the networks and the other components for your project. Best of luck
  20. Long room - La Scalas Small room - Cornwalls Big room - Klipschorns Given the factors of size, sound, looks, and price, the Shorthorn 15 is my favorite all around speaker. Chris
  21. As far as price goes, I have recently purchased two pairs of Cornwall cabinets. First pair from a seller that was parting out Cornwalls on Ebay, but didn't have the cabinets listed. Those were $50 and are a little rough. The second pair was in very nice shape, but only cost $100. I feel that I got a great deal on both pair and could have paid more for either. The people that are parting out our beloved Klipsch can certainly be bargain sources for parts they don't have listed on auction. If you can be patient, you will find something local and cheap. Best of luck to all. Chris
  22. I would also be interested in borrowing a pair (even a single), and would promise to treat them well and return them immediately upon request. I am working on a project that would benefit from a 500 Hz horn lens, Klipsch or otherwise (Altec 511B is too big). Suggestions as to alternatives would be appreciated. Thanks again, Chris Istari: I believe Al has a link to his website in his signature. Thanks for your help.
  23. Hello all, Does anyone have a pair of K-500 horns they would be willing to part with? I think these may have only been used in Belles, but I'm not sure. I would be open to buying or trading. For now, can any of you provide me with the length of a K-500 horn? Thanks for any help. Chris
