I had the same issue with a pair of KLF-20's. I removed one of the tweeters and found all of the backing screws holding the unit/diaphragm together had come loose. Tightened everything back up, sounded as it should. Give that tweeter an inspection. Hope this helps.

There should be enough veneer to take off the main coloring of the original finish. It is hard to describe in a short answer, thus the invite to contact.

I have done this before. The first thing you will need is patience. Take the speakers down to bare cabinets. Get yourself a palm sander and starting with 80-100 grit sandpaper sand these down to bare wood. ALWAYS sand in the direction of the grain.Proceed thru 220 grit, 330,400. That should give you a nice surface to work with. Then STAIN them. DO NOT paint them. You will lose the grain.It will take you a few coats of stain, allowing time in between to dry complteley.After they are the correct shade of color you want then seal them with polycrilic. I advise to use a paint gun if you can, if not use the aerosol. It is very hard to brush on the acrylic without leaving brush marks.Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

I also have the RF3's as mains. I feel there is a pretty good fall-off below 80hz therefore I set mine to small and let the subs do the rest.

If you were happy with the NHT , I can reccommend the NHT U2 sub system. Dual 12's(two seperate subs,very compact cubes) powered by a seperate amp and crossover. Very smooth , musical sub with plenty of impact with HT. Very impressive engineering!

I have almost the same set-up with the RB-5's. In my opinion the RB-5's are as good as the RF-3's if not better in the midrange frequencys. If you like to listen to 5 channel stereo especially the RB-5's are the way to go. If you dont jump on the deal give me a holler. I would like to go to 6.1 using all RB-5's. Hope this helps.

If you have preamp outputs on your reciever, run the sub(using a Y connector) off of the front main output. Make sure you have the front speaker setting on LARGE and the subwoofer setting at OFF. This should get you by.

Take the "good" woofer and swap with the problem woofer to eliminate the amp as the culprit.

I will second that the problem lies with the muting circuit on the reciever. If you want to double check, use another sub to see if the pop continues. If so, then all signs point to a bad muting circuit.I am speaking from experience on this issue. Hope this helps.

Velodyne makes servo subs,but so does Paradigm (with the Servo-15). For the money it is hard to beat. I have also auditioned the new NHT U2 dual sub system. Outstanding!

For shear slam I agree with The Ear. Given the fact that you are looking for a musical sub,the Velodyne or Paradigm is clearly the better chioce in my mind.The servo units are very smooth and precise with ultra low distortion.They will pack a great pop in the 70-80hz range, and even though the 30's have two 12inch woofers the upper end of the servo's will fill out your music.

How about this: A Denon AVR-1603, a pair of Klipsch SB-3's a SC-1 center a pair of SB-1 surrounds and A Klipsch LF-10 sub for $700(if you are in the market for somehting used but very well cared for)

I have the 30's. The two best subs I used were the Paradigm Servo-15 and the Velodyne HGS-15.For the money,go with the Paradigm(you should be able to pick one up new for just a bit more). Hope this helps!

I currentley have RB5's all the way around. I have an opportunity to run a RB5 in place of my current RC3 for a center channel speaker. Any thoughts if this would be an upgrade? Do you feel that the RB5 can perform as well or better? My concern is the dual woofers vs. the single would leave me shy in the bass dept. Please give me your opinions. Thanks
