  1. deang Ok, I will see what I can do about getting some pictures. We have a digital video camera, we have a capture card hooked up to one of our PC's however, I never play with that stuff so I don't know if it works or not. Let me see what I can do. IF nothing else, draw a floor plan using some graphics app. As far as your comment here: quote: Besides needing to see a picture of your room -- I would like to know if you are running your RF3's full range, or if you are 'cutting' them and running them through the sub first. Using the high-pass on the sub will increase dynamics and clean up your midrange. If this is the info your looking for? I have my mains set to large. I had them set to small but the guy who came over yesterday set them to large. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>f>
  2. What flew over there? My response? If so, ya, I have 3 PC's here in my cube at work. One for code writing, one for testing and surfing, the other just sits and consumes electricity. Also, I have been keeping a close eye on these two topics the last two days. Ya, gotta understand, when you baby seems sick, you worry. I have been looking for the cure. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen c>f>

  4. Ya, your most likely right there boa. I need to hear it with everything before I go and jump to some $1000.00 exta conclusion. The surrounds may be the missing answer to my lack of full enjoyment. More than ANYTHING I need to get a good surge protector/conditioner. Right now I have a standard $10.00 local hardware special. I can just friggen see the bolistic temper tantrum I would throw if I lost my system because I was too stupid to get good protection. Also, I will try and get some pics of my living room posted. I will admit, I have a jacked-up living room. There really is no good solution. I still want my question answered though. ------------------ Internet Software Engineer: Will code for HT upgrades. the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen f> This message has been edited by m00n on 04-18-2002 at 04:16 PM
  5. Ok so boa12 (or anyone for that matter), you agree that part of my problem is most likely champiagn taste. If you had $1000.00 and could take your stuff back before it was too late, what would you do with it? Three thoughts come to my mind. Split it in half, upgrade my receiver, and upgrade to RF-5's Just upgrade the receiver to something with more power per channel and quality. Just upgrade to the RF-7's (but is 75 watts per channel enought to push these?) ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-18-2002 at 02:37 PM

  7. ACK! Show you my living room infested with childrens toys? I can try to get a pic of our our living room. However, for the sake of arguement, what would you replace? The speakers or the receiver. I am wondering if the receiver is not strong enough to push the speakers. The RF-3IIs can handle upto 150watts, the harman is pumping out only 75 watts per channel at 5.1. Could that be part of the problem, or is the a suffecient amount of power? It's just all so strange to me because, there are some sounds that sound great! Again, I refer back to The Matix. There is that one scene where you see bullet shells falling to the floor and you hear the ting ting ting ting ting ting of the shells hitting the gound. Sounds great, but as I said previously, the actual gunshots sound blah. With everything I have described, I CRY OUT... WHY? So, I am lead to belive that one of these would be the most perdominate factor, but which one? The receiver, not enough power or just the way it was designed to sound The speakers themselves The fact that I don't have my surrounds yet. It has been suggested my living room and speaker placement. 8. boa12 Ya dude, there is no doubt in my mind the remote is shall we say, SHEETOLA! 1/2 the time it will turn up the volume, half the time it wont. Half the time I can scroll though the screen menus in the setup half the time I cant. And yes, I have made sure that the component I am trying to control IS the receiver, not the DVD or TV or what have ya. Na, dude, it's as I said.... SHEET! I am not the only one who has had these issues with it. Seen some other guys post in a product reivew site that said the remote was crap also. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  9. Volume is NOT the issue. WE HAVE PLEANTY OF LOUD! Oh and Ray, na! I have soooOOOOOoooo pleanty of base. That RSW-12 is more than enough. It about the only thing I am 100% satisfied with. First off, let me state that I still don't have my surrounds yet. If, I had them, perhaps none of this would be valid. Non the less I will try to explain to the best of my abiltiy. Also this topic goes hand in hand with my other post, "Why does it all sound flat" Ok so here's the deal, I have an aquantace that used be a profesional audio installer. He came over last night to listen. He said my system does NOT sound flat at all. As a matter of fact, he said it sounded brighter than his. But to me, it sounds just ok. What I want, is when I am listening to J-Park, and the TREX is growling, I want it to sound like he is in my living room about to chomp down on me. I think I mentioned this in my other post that, in The Matix, the lobby scene, the gun shots sound so monotone or muffled. Instead of having that nice full *POW* sound they have more of a *put* sound. There are times that I can bairly hear something that you would think you should hear very clearly, perhaps a side affect of not having the surrounds yet. And maybe I should not judge the system until I hear it with the surrounds. It just doesn't sound clean to me nor does it have that crystal clear vibrancy that I want. Also, it did sound better in the show room, why? I don't know maybe I am expecting too much out of what I purchased. I know this is by far not a high High HIGH end system like some of you probably have, but nor is it a total low end system. I can tell you one thing for sure, I am very much considering taking back the Harman Kardon. Not because of sound quality, but becuase the remote is a peice of crap. It works about half the time. I am really suprised they delivered a system with such a flakey remote. With that, I ask myself, do I exchange it for a new HK same model? Or do I get a different receiver all together. If I get a different receiver, which brand? My wife will sh1t a kitten, but if I absolutly had to, I would be willing to sink in an aditional $1000.00. Don't want to do that but I just can't see spening the amount that I spent and not being happy with it. I really am hoping someone says, Dude, just wait until you get your surrounds in place. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-18-2002 at 12:05 PM
  10. So out of my speakers and receiver. If you had the opportunity to take it all or some of it back and get different stuff, (sticking to klipsch) what would it be? 13. I think the best way I can describe what I think to be the problem is, imagine placing a sheet of paper in front of your speakers. All the sounds are there, but you would get the affect of something not not sounding quit right. I don't know. Maybe I am so used to my truck stereo. I have a kicken stereo in my truck. Infinity speakers all the around sub, amp and all that. The door tweeters are spearate tweeters and are mounted right up at the top of the door. I get incredible highs out of those speakers. Maybe I am just so used to this, that, this is what is making my home theater stereo sound flat. Crunch! Maybe thats it. It seems to be missing that kick a55 crunchy sound I get from my truck stereo. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-17-2002 at 10:41 AM
  14. Got the speakers and receiver here local. My wife got the DVD player XMAS 2000 for the family from Amazon.com. I will go back and see if I am doing something wrong with the DVD, but I don't remember seeing that as a choice, but neither have I really investigated the DVD either. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen
  15. Not sure what the P is in dvdp, but I did switch the DVD player back to dolby digital 5.1 bitstream. I guess that's digital. Sounds like it to me. But yes I agree. 16. I have the remote for the HK now. I just picked it up today. It's the remote I was bitching about earlier. I have an RCA connection going from the back of the HK to the TV. I have been using the onscreen menu. So with the optical, I don't need to set the output of the DVD player eh? When you set the fronts to large, I am guessing it makes the speakers work harder. Does that take away from it's abilty to play mids and highs effeciently? ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-17-2002 at 01:55 AM
  17. Oh ya the analog. I had to set it like that until today. Without the remote I had no way of turning off the two surrounds on the receiver. So, I changed the output from the DVD to 5.1 analog 2ch. Thanks for reminding me of that. I can't test it all now. Everyone is in bed. Oh which reminds me, I need to turn on my electric blinkie. So, will it sound better once I get my surrounds. Oh and one more thing. I am getting a solid buzz coming from the center channel. I can only imagine it's interferrance right? But what? It's NOT sitting directly on top of my TV as there is a 1/4" thick oak plywood shelf between the TV and the receiver. The speaker wire is not haning down in back of the TV. I have it up on the shelf with the center channel. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-17-2002 at 01:29 AM
  18. Ok, so the sub rox. I have established that. When I was in the show room, OMG! I was sooooOOOOOooooo impressed. But I get the system home and I am starting to feel dissapointed because everything sounds flat. Could it be because I don't have my surrounds yet? Is it the receiver? I will admit to one mistake, I never listened to the harman karden before I purchased it. I went to two places, Magnolia HiFi and they had the yamaha RXV1200 hooked up to it. Then at The Good Guys they have the Denon AVR 3802(i think). I just know their web site price matches what I seen in the store. This is what I have done to try and tweek. Turned off the surrounds in the receiver because I don't have them yet. Tried both large and small for the fronts From the DVD player, I have set the input to be Dolby Digital 5.1 with 2 channel analog. On the receiver, I have ensured that my DVD player is coming in from the optical input. Vibrant. It just does not seem vibrant. It all did at the show room. Could it be the cableing? Sure I didn't buy the $200.00 front speaker wire, or the $70.00 center channel. But I did get the best monster cooper strand they had. Oh and the receier. What a crock. The remote is all yacked up. Brand new and it works about .5% of the time. I have to keep pressing the buttons over and over and over and over just to get it to do something. Yes the batteries are new. I only read one negative thing about the HK on the internet, it was the remote. I though to myself, eh, must have been one bad apple. Perhaps I should have listed to the dealer at Magnolia HiFi. He told me that HK had gone down in quality.(At least with the remote issue) Hmmm, so anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing my flat sounding system? If I replace the receiver with something else, any suggestions? The HK has been selling in this area for about $800.00. What would be good in that price range? I am willing to go up maybe another $100.00 or so. Thanks all for listening to my rant and rave. ------------------ the m00n system RF-3II Front floors RC-3II Center RS-3II Surrounds RSW-12 Subwoofer Harman Kardon AVR 520 Toshiba SD 3205 DVD Samsung 27" Flatscreen This message has been edited by m00n on 04-17-2002 at 12:49 AM
  19. Dude, my living room is much bigger than that. The pic looks like your in a bedroom. Yes? Anyway, I have the RSW-12. Oh goodness, I have pleanty of base with that. 25. So, I don't know anything about the RF-7's other than they are more expensive, thus they must sound better. You say you would rather have my set over a RF-7 with no sub. That brings me to *ALAS* another question. When looking a speaker packages on the net. I seen the RF-7's withOUT subwoofers. Why are they selling witout a sub? Trying to cut the cost some or are they intended to be used without a sub? Are they kind of an all in once type speaker? Oooohhhh, I have to go get the movie Titanic. I bet that will sound SWEEET.
