  1. After spending a few weeks with my newly acquired La Scalas I can certainly see how this mod could benefit these speakers. Just raising them up 10 inches alone would be a plus in the bass department. Now what if one were to build this as it's drawn up, ports and all, and then adds a 7 inch riser to the box. This would bring it up to the height of the Kornerhorn. Would this be an improvment?
  2. Call me crazy but I'd pay a small admission fee just to see this set up. And I'd pay extra to hear it.
  3. I'm sure Lynn is nodding yes and smiling in approval of that suggestion[Y].
  4. Lynn was one of the first personalities that stood out when I first came to this forum. I cannot say more good about him than what has already been said. I will say this lose has really effected me more than some of my own blood. I would have loved to have met Lynn. Wouldn't it be a nice tribute to resurrect many of his past threads he started and continue the conversation. All current posts would then be started by Lynn. I noticed one has already reappeared. That might be a nice tribute.
  5. I am truly saddened by this news. I didn't know he was ill. His posts always stood out and his avatar was so so perfect in conveying his personality. Lynnm. We love you. You are already missed.
  6. This is something I was going to ask you guys about. Caring for raw birch. I'm sure it's been discussed here many times. I'll take a look in the arcives. Must be in there somewhere. So a fine sandpaper is good? What else?
  7. Those are beautiful. What kind of finish is that?
  8. Seems I did read a post in the archives about a certain someone that really wanted a Birch La Scala. Can not remember who. The minute I saw them I new that's the way they should be. They've been that way for 24 years. And they look maaavelous. Why would I do anything to them except give then the best first watt I can and guard them with my life.
  9. Not only were they there for a month Craig, the guy told me he had them in the paper the month before, and was then asking $1400.00!!!! I'm so glad I didn't see them then. Saved me 400 bucks right there.
  10. Well...of course I was stunned! How could this be? How could there be a pair of Klipsch La Scalas in my town in this condition at this price for a month in the local newpaper and no one buy them. I'm not in a tiny town BTW but hey, this should not be happening. The things were not even hooked up. They were just setting there in the corners of his very small room. He asks me if I want to hear them. It had been 24 years since I had heard a pair. What do they sound like I thought? I said,"No, I don't need to hear them, I'll take them". So that was it. Done deal. I go home and tell my loving angel of a wife that if I can get these speakers now, I won't be needing a Christmas present of any kind until 2006. She says OK and I feel my nose start to grow cause I know I'm eyeing a SET amp on Audiogon as we speak. Hehe. Anyway, I picked up these beauties today. They are big but are fitting in nicely. They are not new, two or three cosmetic flaws but I'd have to point them out to you. Very very minor. All drivers are working. Sounds excellent. Does not have the Cornwall bass, BUT......this La Scala bass is certainly growing on me. Mid-range is to die for. I'm going down stairs as we speak to play some Miles. BTW, these are from 1981. Serial #'s 26W501 and 502.
  11. Well, I don't post here much anymore. After discovering horns and tubes right here on this forum and finally obtaining them (remember my Cornwall and Rogue threads from way back) I felt my system complete for the most part and moved on. I've been happy as hell with my Cornwalls and was not in the market for any other speaker of any kind. Then suddenly out of the blue about a month ago I just decide for no reason that I'm going to give a look in the local classifieds at the stereo equipment ads. Guess I was bored, I don't quiet recall, but I see this small ad that reads ............... Klipsch La Scalas, Brand New, $1000.00 .....so I raise my eye brows and scratch my head and say to my self," Nah, that guys blow'in smoke or maybe it's a misprint....or heck, those babies have already been sold". I threw the paper down and never thought about it again. Then last week while at work, I'm at lunch going through the paper and I remember that ad I saw a month or so ago and I check to see if there's any other nice stuff like the La Scalas I had seen. And holy cow, there's the same ad for these brand new La Scalas. What's go'in on here? So I call the guy and he tells me these speakers are not brand new (Of course! I new it!) but are just like brand new because the guy he bought them from 3 years back had them packed away in their boxes for 20 years and never did use them. Sure buddy, rrrright. Good story. But it sure did peak my curiosity so I agreed to go by and give them a look.......and the next day when I did give them a look........ my jaw dropped to the ground.
  12. I'm in the vinyl camp. The better your rig, the better music it will make. Music bleeding over from the next groove is a thing of the past in my system. Aline that cartridge correctly and most of your problems will go away. But here is a point that must be made. The fact is gentlemen if you only play one format you are missing out on lots of great music. And is not music what this hobby is all about?
  13. I've been going through the archives and for the life of me cannot find the corner measurements required for Cornerhorns. What are they?

Yes. Yeah Dean, it actually maps out the location like yahoo maps website does when one is trying to get driving directions. Very nice.
  15. Again, I must say this website's dealer locater function is not what it should be. Go to B&W speakers website and see what a dealer locater is capable of. http://www.bwspeakers.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/local.main No matter how far away your nearest dealer is, this locater will tell you AND show you where to go.
  16. I'm another who feels the Heritage line is doomed. Finding new Heritage speakers is not easy and the Klipsch website does not do much to help matters. After clicking on to the Heritage line and typing in my zip code to find the nearest dealer, all I got was....(Sorry, but your search returned no results!) Why don't they just list the Heritage dealer that is nearest to that zip? Even if it's 1000 miles away, at least then you know where to buy them.
  17. I just googled it and all I could find was 4 or 5 audio sites that you had posted on looking for answers. How many watts is that beast? 800?
