  1. In reference to the models you mentioned (and not whether it's worth it to upgrade), the HK AVR 525 has all of the features of the 8000 (minus THX), with a few additions. The most noteworthy addition is Triple Crossover, which effectively allows you to set a different crossover frequency for each set of speakers (front, center, and surrounds collectively). Plus it has 7 powered channels. Also, the new AVR 7200 has all the features of the 525, and all of the power of the 8000, but costs less than the 8000 because of lack of the THX certification (which I can get by without). I've found the 525 on www.jandr.com for $699 plus about $39 shipping, and they're an authorized dealer so you get the full factory warranty. Just some extra info!

    KSW....

When I was looking for subs, one of the ones I tested was a KSW-12. While it did have some punch, as I turned up the music, it started to bottom out. I really wasn't that impressed with the clarity of it's sound. And the RSW's were out of my price range. After listening to all sorts of subs, I finally decided to go for an SVS (without listening). I ended up with an SVS 25-31 PCi for about $550. I couldn't be happier. It outperforms all the subs I listened to by leagues, and it was a good bargain to boot.
  3. Here's the problem: The XBOX is not detecting that you have an optical hooked up. When you do, DD 5.1 and DTS are selectable on the dashboard. Mine didn't show up untill I hooked up the AV box. I don't have the monster set, though. Try exchanging the Monster set for a new one, it's probably defective.
  4. Where do they come from? This is like the third guy this week who has decided wander over and turn this forum into a sandbox. And a foul-smelling one at that.

    Subwoofer!

An SVS 25-31 PCi can be had for around $550, and will TOTALLY outperform the KSW. Do a search for SVS on these forums for more opinions...there are plenty to be had. Check out www.svsubwoofers.com or check www.audioreview.com for some opinions. If you're willing to lend an EAR, a certain sub junkie on these forums will be glad to provide some more detailed information...
  6. BTW, the original amount paid for this receiver was $575 plus $45 shipping.
  7. Well, here's the warranty info: The online retailer I bought it from offers to cover the manufacturer's warranty as stated. This means that this particular unit is under warranty for two years from the purchase date. In this case, the warranty will expire on April 15, 2004. So there's a little under a year left on the warranty. I dug out the box, manual, and recipt. Everything is accounted for, and as stated before, the receiver is in excellent shape. Thanks!
  8. RJB, Totally forgot to look last night, but I'm leaving at noon today, so I'll check for you and let you know this afternoon. Thanks
  9. Diggs, Played any Mech Assault on Live lately?
  10. I'm asking $400. I belive it is still under warranty for another year from the seller. I'll check that when I get home tonight. As far as negotiability goes, make an offer. I won't go too much lower, as used ones without warranties are going for around $400 on ebay. I'll post about the warranty tonight. Anyway, make an offer and we'll talk. My email addy is dblue@midwest.net. Thanks!
  11. I'm located in St. Charles MO (St. Louis county).
  12. Jeez, I feel like I'm on a video game forum or something... This is the second thread this week that has turned into a pissing contest.
  13. I agree with m00n. The AVR 525 has the best bass management setup I've seen beyond going separates with the outlawICBM. The triple crossover feature lets you pick separate crossover frequencies for your mains, center, and surround speakers. The frequencies you can set are 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120. This beats the pants off Denon which offers only one crossover for the whole group of speaks and only 3 frequencies (80, 100, 120). An 80Hz crossover does not do the RF3II's justice, especially for listening to stereo music. Plus the stereo mode kicks for music on the AVR. In fact, hearing my friend's convinced me to sell my Denon 2802 and get the AVR 525.
  14. I'm posting a Denon 2802 for sale. It is in excellent shape and works perfectly. It is about 10 months old. I'm selling it because I'm getting a HK AVR525. I'm asking $400. Buyer will pay shipping. I just thought I'd post it here before ebay and give some fellow Klipschers a chance. Thanks!
  15. I agree with JasN00b..but If you're looking for skull crushing, foundation shaking, vision blurring bass, there's only one choice in (and under) this price range. SVS. Give'em a whirl.
  16. Mobile, Nice list...I'll have to check out some of these bands. I've heard and enjoyed Pavement and Tortoise. Have you heard the KC band Shiner. They're now defunct, and their last album wasn't the best of their efforts, but albums like Lula Divina and Splay are great. And there are an abundance of 7" singles out there that have some really good sounds. I'll have to get busy on this list, though.
  17. I haven't picked it up yet, but my buddy has it and it ROCKS. I think it blows MGS out of the water. Best graphics on XBOX yet, and definately in the top 5 games available. Good stuff.
  18. I assumed this was normal on the Denons. My 2802 does it as well. Also, my Alpine car unit does the same thing.
  19. Are you running a satellite receiver or cable box? If so, just run the audio out to the new surround unit instead of the TV. If not, there's probably no other way....

    RF3 Crossover

Thanks for the URL! I'll check it out.
  21. I'm ordering the AVR525 to go with my Reference 3 setup. The receiver has a great bass management system, which I'm planning on using to optimize the sound. Should I cross my RF3-II's(mains) over at 40 or 60Hz? I know they're rated down to 37Hz, but I also know that they may start to drop above 40. I also know that I may just be better off mapping out the frequency response in my room...if this is the case, where can I get a good test frequency CD that will let me do this? I already have a RadioShack Analog SPL meter. Thanks in advance...

    Decent music DVD's

A little darker than the above, but AWESOME DTS sound, and good tunes if you're into NIN. Nine Inch Nails: And all that could have been DTS
  23. Right on Dale Walker! Great tunes! I thought of another one: Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon has some REALLY clean lows, and some decent dynamic range. Also, King Crimson's double disk live set Absent Lovers has a great range of highs and lows. Three of a Perfect Pair live was made for klipsch!!!
