  1. After it was suggested Ememience (sp) was the maker for Klipsch, contact was made and they mentioned something about it being a priority design with no parts available... Klipsch simply would not/didn't make any sort of a reply. After visiting with Allen Speaker Repair here in Houston, I was told not to worry and all that is needed was for a Klipsch repair station to make repairs. This has a good ending... the K-1023 is fixed. ($49) with parts that look to be identical to the origional and my only problem is the speaker repair looks better than the origional and my KG5.5 can now find a new home.
  2. The N-600 XO's have been ByPassed with N-800-D's as was suggested some years back as a preformance enhancement. I have read (from the product information sheet) an improvemnt can be made replacing the 275's with the JBL 075 Hi Freq. driver. Will there be any noticeable improvement making the switch and can it be done without changing the [in place] N-800-D XO's? Or would this change be a waste of time, since this C45 sounds wonderful?
  3. Did KLIPSCH make this element or did EMINENCE? I'm needing to fix or replace one. One in good working order would do just fine. pc
  4. Slide over to AudioKarma.org and follow a few of the available threads, they also have a Pioneer specific thread. Clean (switches and pots) and adjust (bias) can only improve things. If you find bias adj. to be out of spec (sometimes indicated by excessive heat) will in most cases allow things to last longer... and the peace of mind. Enjoy
  5. On Ebay the other day, I won a set of GB/6DJ8 (Gold Brand) Sylvania's. I had seen them back a few decades and used them in a PAS-3 and they sounded very good then as they do now in my SFCD-1 (full mod w/XO3) by C. Johnson. (Thanks Mr. Johnson_) Are they on par with my PWs...? N O ... but they are close. NOW, do they approach the audio bliss of a set of CCa's? NO... not even close. Find a set of GBs and give them a whirl.
  6. Find someone in your area with a clean example of the SX1250. I've got one that has had a clean and (bias) adjust and the other looks like it was just removed from the box (as in new). Be prepaired to be amazed... . After your SX980 runs awhile feel back along the heatsinks, if they are a bit hot to the touch, learn how or find someone that can make the necessary adjustments (it will be worth it) and it will not cost you very much. Also having a dedicated (clean) AC line helps a great deal. enjoy pc
  7. I've been informed one of the 10s would need to be partitianed for the three way deal to be feasible. OK, that's a big deal.. Also: Bailey @ Klipsch refused to release the specs for the drivers, the 3urd. I guess the BOSE suit has already passed the corporate pablum on... I continue to believe there's more than one way to skin a KG5.5 Anyone out here have a set up to plot these 5.5s? I'll be the first to sign up for a improved set of XOs. (done correctly). Then there's always Madison Sound with an improved parts upgrade per Levi' s suggestion. thru the fog pc
  8. Being on the right track is a nice thing to know. Impreical design sometime isn't "always" in a straight line. Maybe that's the reasoning for various speaker designs. My hopes are that locating a designer with flexability doesn't become a "bumpy" obstacle. And as I've noted from conversation with LevI and his dealings with Madison Sound, their success with a parts only upgrade, I feel we may be on the "right tract". I'm hoping driver info from Klipsch is available. After that is on hand, plugging it into a software program is next. Patience, Old Age and Craftyness, pc PS. SX1250 FWIW...
  9. When/if DeanG (Dean Wescott) finds the time to respond, we will have the answer to this situation... I would rather pull the punchy character out of the speaker with an XO mod than a EQ, it keeps the signal cleaner than adding "something" that doesn't need to be there. Both 10s are identical, using one of them from 35hz to 7/800hz and rolling in the other one where the bottom driver slopes off should work. If understand sub design correctly, using drivers that are the same size create a bumb. That's why a 2 channel sub has only one driver or 2 drivers of different sizes (to avoid the bumb). In the case of the KG5.5 bottom is not lacking and if one of the 10s could be driven without having to pull sub duty, it just might smooth out the speaker and take it to a higher level. I would like to also be able to turn down the horn/tweeter flamethrower if possible. Although my wife put a table cloth over the horn which works well at controlling the glare. My other option... sell em. Trouble is; I like the KG5.5 and with a little help, they will respond like the other improved XO designs have proved. Time will tell.. pc
  10. I hope this little discussion doesn't get lost in s p a c e. my 5.5s are crying for some upgraded XOs ... help.

I'll be sure to post some pics once I get them done (but sadly that won't be anytime real soon). ---------------- Where are the follow up views of the modded XOs? FOOD FOR THOUGHT (maybe): What about splitting the 10s and having a 3way system? Add an LPad to the horn/tweeter. If I could get some driver info on the 5.5s, I would like to give this a shot. pc
  12. I am interested in taking a KG 5.5 to a new level (?) I'm looking for the driver specs. Impedence and such. Is this info available from KLIPSCH? Turning it into a 3/way speaker by sloping one of the 10s to the middle octaves and soften the horn a touch and throwing away the rag that's stuffed in it... Any input would be greatfully accepted.. pc
  13. I'm not a big fan of 'ACTIVE' Subs. Ebay has subs coming up all the time. There are DIY projects on the "WEB", if you are into that sort of thing. Check out the consumer electronic show winners. Since this is a Klipsch Forum, I won't mention names, but , this outfit has some very nice kits or plans and hardware that are very cost conscience. What the hey ...(VMPS), Do a little homework...and get yourself a piece of eguipment, not a buzz box.
