  1. I'm having a tough time determining what would be an ideal minimum input voltage into the phono stage of the Marantz 7 preamp. I have heard from others that modern cartridges don't produce enough voltage (<5mV typically) to sound great with the phono stage of this preamp. Others have said to me one needs to use cartridges with output voltages around 9.5mV or greater. Next week I'm going to test the system out with an Ortofon 2M Blue cart (5mV) and I guess I will go from there. Trying to find some actual specifications or data that may provide some more clear direction to me regarding the ideal input requirements for phono stage of the Marantz 7. Thanks in advance for your help. Bharat
  2. Good day, CN03277 and CN03279 are serial numbers of two MC 75 monoblocks I am considering purchasing. Is it preferable sonically to find two that are sequential? Does anyone know how I may go about estimating the year when they were produced based on the serial number? Thanks, Bharat
  3. Anyone know what’s happening to production of the Heritage line during these unprecedented times? I paid up and ordered brand new La Scalas and was advised that none were in stock and they needed to be manufactured. Just wondering if the factory is up and running or if they are shut down for foreseeable future..
  4. Thank you Maynard. Will give it a read in detail. Appreciate the info
  5. I have the opportunity to buy this Marantz 7 to pair with my existing Marantz 8 that I will play via my Forte II. Down the road my plan is to upgrade to La Scalas. Thoughts on the condition of this example? Should I pull the trigger? Price seems comparable to the going rate for this model. Thanks in advance, Bharat
  6. OP can I ask why the choice of MC275 to bi-amp and why not MC 75 monoblocks instead? Bharat
  7. Thank you. Could you elaborate a bit more? what does the 6" refer to?
  8. I just realized that it doesn't show up on my profile where I'm located, will try to update that. I am based in Maine, so KY would be a bit of a haul. VT, NH, MA are all within a 1-2hr driving radius. I am flying to NYC in early March, so that could be another possibility.
  9. The root cause of the flooding has been identified and fixed. I have a couple of layers of fail safes now to ensure water does not enter the basement. I wouldn't be having this discussion if I wasn't confident that it is unlikely to happen again.
  10. Current speakers are Forte II, pre-out of Marantz 2325 and into Marantz 8 power amplifier and very happy with the sound. Recently my finished basement was destroyed in a flood and while that absolutely sucks, it's an opportunity for me to refinish the basement to my liking and create a brand new listening room. See attached photos of the space (intend to finish prior to moving any equipment down there), a few questions: 1. Does the basement look large enough to do justice to K-Horns? If so, which wall would it make the most sense to place them against? 2. Do new stock K-Horns have capability to be bi-amped? Is there any reason (especially sonically) I would want to buy vintage K-horns instead of brand new? 3. Thinking of going down the McIntosh road for the longer term - perhaps running 2 x MC 275 bi-amped and the C2700 pre-amplifier. Thoughts on how this combination would sound with K-horns? 4. Finding a hard time locating certified dealers who carry K-horns in store that I could listen to, any ideas on how I might actually listen prior to buying? Thanks in advance! Bharat
  11. For those of you who remember sometime back I bought a Marantz 8 and some of you provided me great advice on using it - thank you for that. I’m currently running the preamp section of my Marantz 2325 to my Marantz 8 tube amp and then to Klipsch Forte ii. I couldn’t be happier with the sound. I would like to buy Marantz 7c preamp to use in conjunction with the 8 as it seems like that’s how god intended them to be used! Question: Does anyone have experience using this configuration particularly with Forte ii ? Any advice on selecting the ideal 7c? On eBay I find price ranging from $4000 - $10,000, seems like quite a wide range! Thanks in advance. Bharat
  12. Thank you sir for the super helpful information regarding the amp. I am located in Portland, Maine and would welcome some recommendations for competent technician who maybe located relatively nearby. Thanks in advance. Bharat
  13. Thank you for the insight Maynard. May I ask for a bit more specifics on this? Do you mean that capacitors and diodes are old and therefore need replacement? Or do you mean that someone may have replaced them with incorrect / not ideal ones and I should try to restore back to as close to original state as possible? Thanks in advance for your help. Bharat
