Ah... ok. Well, they sound bigger so I want them.
-
I like alnico, too. I have blue alnico speakers in my Vox AC-30 guitar amplifier. The amp sounds great on Fender Rhodes, too.
-
Hmmm.... Perhaps that's why Al offers the Super AA-X upgrade for $130.
-
Yes, and the AL5s have a 2" mid driver. Actually, the 2" mid driver is why I'm getting the AL5s. That's a mod I'm not willing to do for these old La Scalas.

The spades carry the sound of the thicker wire nicely. If I had spades with a better metal, that would probably help, but these spades have worked just fine with my Heresys and Chros IIs. As far as bi-amping goes, I'll do that when I get the AL5s. Right now I just want to hear these old speakers sound new ++.

K-77 tweeter tricked out with 10AWG pure copper audio wire.
-
Good to know. I'll do an A/B test.
-
They're actually pretty beat and scratched up. They were stored stacked with one on top. AA Crossovers. I'm impressed by the sound, even though I know an ALK crossover will take them to new and improved sonic capabilities.
-
Push pins. Very convenient.
-
It happened, and it was dusty. All cleaned up now and ready for Kilmat. The K77 tweeter sounds pretty nice. I may keep them.
-
Good timing. I just pulled one out. It's a K400.
-
Very first update. I replaced the K-55V rubber washers. The old ones (see pic) were pretty dried out. This $8 update really does improve the mids. It's the first time I'm hearing the highs in Frank's voice. The horns in the orchestra are sharper as well.
-
Here they are. I'm going to see just how close I can get them to the AL5s. I'll get the AL5s later, but tinkering with these will be fun.
-
Keeping both is definitely the best idea; I just can't do it right now because of limited space. Covid killed my 'bigger house' project, but as soon as I'm back on track, the Big Klipsch Show will resume!
-
I just did. They're a bit beat, and definitely need new crossovers. Funny thing... right now my Chorus IIs sound better.... but in the pic, you can tell they're jealous.
-
I just wanted to see if I could get them to be mini La Scalas. I made some really good sonic improvements, but they're not La Scalas.
-
My Chorus II crossovers. One was not functioning (short wires) so I replaced them both with new Crites crossovers. I'm passing these on to the new owner of my Chorus II experimental pair. It was a very good experiment. Is anybody rebuilding these? I just thought the new owner would like to know.

This was not the plan, but I picked up a La Scala pair before I sold my Chorus IIs. All original La Scalas vs upgraded Chorus IIs; the Chorus II pair definitely have better highs, punchier bass, and more detailed mids. However, I can already imagine the sonic upgrades for the La Scalas. The Chorus IIs are jealous. -

Thanks. Another little audio factoid; the upright bass and electric bass are more defined and less boomy after installing the new styled solid pine risers. This may be a factory secret. Hmmmm.... -

New Chrites crossovers, New diaphragms, New wiring, New matting for the horns. You can have the old crossovers and diaphragms if you would like them. -
I got the titanium diaphragms for my Chorus II speakers, as well as the Crites Chorus II crossovers. The sound is much better. However, it does not approach the upgrade of the ALK crossovers. As it turns out, ALK is not developing crossovers for the Chorus II. Is it possible to get the same ALK quality elsewhere?

These were listed at $200 a few weeks ago. I guess they wised up. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/198646625570559/
