  1. I'll probably replicate my Heresy mod success into a vintage La Scala pair, as soon as I can find a pair in my area. That has been my goal. This journey sure has been educational.
  2. That makes sense. I have Dave's tweeters in my Heresy I pair, with an ALK Universal Economy crossover. I hope to do the same to original La Scalas. Add 10awg twisted copper wiring from the crossover to the drivers, and 10awg for the amplifier cables to the speaker inputs. It is a glorious thing.
  3. I finally got some big ol' Chorus II speakers. I did install the Crites Chorus II crossovers, but as of right now, my Chorus pair is nowhere near as refined as my modded Heresy I pair. I really wish I could get another ALK crossover for my Chorus II, but Al isn't interested in supporting them.
  4. Update: I splurged for the $8 replacement washers for the K-55-V diaphragm in my Heresy I pair, and this tiny upgrade gave me more details and presence in the mids. Very much worth it.
  5. It's definitely worth your time to experiment. Most likely you'll prefer the ALK, but understanding history is a reward in itself. I've listened to a number of vintage La Scalas on Youtube. Although not a perfect evaluation, I am able to assemble an audio composite of the original La Scala sound. The original La Scala is not as refined as La Scala II, but a modded first generation La Scala can definitely get close to the La Scala II sound. Many even prefer a modded original La Scala to La Scala II.
  6. ALK is pretty much the same as the newest Klipsch Heritage speaker crossovers. They have made my Heresy I set sound more like a Heresy III.
  7. I already have. He has no advice or mods for the Chorus II crossover, so I'm on a quest to get the ALK sound for my Chorus II set.
  8. Al says he has nothing for the Chorus II. That is a shame, because I love what the Universal Economy crossovers have done for my Heresy I speakers. Is there a mod for the Universal Economy to make it "safe" for the Chorus II? Or has anyone tried it? I know how to solder and use a multimeter.
  9. The Willsenton R8 is an excellent choice for you! You can even experiment with different tube preamps if you want to. Most integrated tube amps don't have that feature.
  10. I saw those, too. I politely offered $1,300, but he politely declined.
  11. I'm going to sell these to make room for some big ol' Chorus II speakers. Do you think $700 is fair for these?
  12. Talk to a couple of guitar amplifier repair shops near you. They handle lots of tube circuits.

  14. I would have definitely paid $2,600 for those. They were in good condition AND had huge upgrades.

  16. They show up periodically on ebay.
  17. Based on recent sales, $1,300 would be good.
  18. Correction: The location is Eastern Shore, MD, near Annapolis.
  19. Yep. The seller may not be motivated at this point.
  20. They've been on the market 21 days so far. https://easternshore.craigslist.org/ele/d/chester-klipsch-la-scala-speakers-ls-br/7341451862.html
  21. Congrats, @Outrider 6 !! I knew one of us would enjoy these.
