  1. For $1000, I would recommend piecing together your own system from the Synergy line, rather than going with the Synergy 6 package. I just got these prices from acousticsounddesign.com, they are similar to other online retailers, but quite a bit less than an authorized store will charge. - SF1 floorstanding fronts ($380/pair) - SC1 center channel ($180) - SS.5 surrounds ($180/pair) - KSW10 subwoofer ($260) or - KSW12 subwoofer ($350) I think this arrangement would give you a significant improvement beyond the already good sound of the Synergy 6 package which you can get for about $700 online.
  2. Does UBid ever auction current models like the SF-1's or SF-2's? I've only been watching for a couple of weeks, but it seems like they mostly sell discontinued models.
  3. Keep an eye out for Bin Laden. That $25 million reward will buy you all the speakers you could ever want! Seriously though, have a safe trip. This message has been edited by tripod on 06-20-2002 at 06:12 AM
  4. Has there ever been a For Sale forum here for members to list their equipment? If not, it sure seems like there would be enough interest to support it. It seems like we are all fairly addicted to evolving upgrades. What better way to sell and buy used equipment than from other members of this forum? That being said, anyone looking to sell a pair of SF-1's to a new speaker junkie? On a related note, how about a forum dedicated to successful strategies for explaining the need for speakers to spouses? Again, there seems to be a clear need here, at least on my part.

  6. I also recommend the System 6. It has all the speakers you need in one bundle, including a subwoofer. You might want to check out acousticsounddesign.com. I bought a center channel speaker from them last week and got a great price and great service. They currently have the system 6 on sale. I copied the following text from their webiste: "Special Price: $699.00 The Synergy System 6 is the worlds only horn-loaded home theater system under $1,000. The nine pound, 12.5-inch SB-1 mains, multi-angle enclosure center channel and 180° surrounds all utilize square Tractrix® Horns, delivering consistent, balanced, high-performance sound across the board. The system comes with a KSW-10 subwoofer to maximize every explosion, car chase and shoot-out. As youd expect, the Synergy System 6 has the appealing, stealth-like styling of its larger Synergy counterparts. "
  7. Not positive, but I believe the show was Animaniacs. She was a sort of tour guide through history, right? They had some excellent jokes on that show, way over most kid's heads.

  9. Okay, here's the update. I contacted Klipsch and found out the following: The speaker I have is an authentic Klipsch product The serial number on the back is not a Klipsch serial number My speaker is not in any way covered by the Klipsch warranty It seems that acousticsounddesign.com somehow buys speakers from an authorized dealer, but in an under-the-table deal. In order to keep the authorized dealer out of trouble, they then remove the Klipsch serial number to prevent tracing the product's sales history. I guess this is all in order to avoid some sort of fees or licensing/pricing requirement imposed by Klipsch. I'm not real clear on the details of this part. It looks like the bottom line is that if you use an online retailer other than Ubid, you are buying an unauthorized product, but not necessarily an non-authentic one. Just be sure to carefully check out who you're buying it from and you can get a great deal online. I saved nearly $100 on just the one speaker compared to buying it from my local Tweeter store. The only downside is that I'll have to ship it to Las Vegas for warranty work if it is ever needed. Let me add that I have been very happy with my experience with acousticsounddesign thus far. I haven't had any problems with the speaker, so I can't comment on their warranty fulfillment, but the sales and shipping experience was great. The speaker also arrived in perfect condition in a factory box. This message has been edited by tripod on 06-12-2002 at 01:21 PM
  10. I just meant that the appearance of the serial number caught my eye as unusual. This being my first Klipsch speaker (hopefully it's really a Klipsch) I don't know what the original serial number should look like, I just know this one looks wrong. Are there ANY authorized online retailers of Klipsch products? I tried using their dealer locator and only found brick and mortar locations. Anyone have some feedback regarding acousticsounddesign.com?
  11. Thanks, it is getting plenty of use on a daily basis, so I don't think there's any need to leave it on 24/7. I'm sure I'm already close to 48 hours of use during the 9 days I've had it(sheesh, I watch too much TV).
  12. Bought it from acousticsounddesign.com. They seemed like a big enough operation, so I thought they were legit. They even encourage customers to post their buying experience to HT boards! What should the serial number look like? I guess I better call Klipsch and see what they say about the whole thing. Hey Bryan2, what was the outcome with your SS-1?
  13. I just bought a Klipsch SC-1 from an online retailer. After receiving it I read Klipsch.com's statement about unauthorized dealers. Now I'm starting to be paranoid about the whole deal. It was shipped in a factory box and has the factory owner's manual and packing. However, the box was opened in order to insert the shipping paperwork. Other than that, almost everything looks legit. The only thing that seems a little out of place is that the serial number is printed on a white laminated paper label instead of the metal plate I would have expected. Is this how Klipsch does their serial numbers or is something going on here? Thanks for your advice!
  14. I am the proud new owner of a SC-1. In researching speakers prior to my purchase I have encountered many references to speakers being broken in. Are there any certain exercises I can put the speaker through to expedite this, or is it just a matter of use over time? Thanks!
