  1. PM, go to www.lonestaraudiofest.com for more info. Yes, I have to leave the room when the "CABLE'' discussion starts, and yes, my nose bleeds occasionally. But I just say FUGIT and have a good time anyway. Hopefully, there will be some good vinyl rigs whirlin...and they may let us touch the cables....
  2. Just a reminder that the Lone Star Audio Fest is this upcoming weekend in Dallas at the Embassy Suites Market Center. Go to www.lonestaraudiofest.com for more info. Any Klipschers or FUGers going? Send me a PM so we can meet up. I plan on being there Sat. and maybe Sunday afternoon.
  3. Ralph Stanley at the Granada Theatre in Dallas. Great content, absolutely horrible mix. So bad that it almost ruined all the music an 81 year legend could muster. Great voice is still there. I'm going to a lot of concerts of great music with horrible mixes/accoustics/etc. Almost bad enough to stop me going, but there's always the gem that gets through when all comes together and magic is transmitted throughout the venue.
  4. Bump...still going. If you're going PM me for cel # exchange. I will be there Saturday...maybe more depending on what's going on.
  5. If at first you don't succeed, sky diving may not be for you. A day without sunshine is like night.
  6. Please, don't forget those who can't remember.
  7. Ok, I'm dense. My Heresy's are marked H-WL-12, Ser. 3H067, I'm assuming this is year 1969...correct. The 2nd one is marked "Single"/HWO/88T000..I'm assuming this is year 1979...correct? Neither number follows the code exactly in terms of number of digits. My guess is that the original owner listened to the 1st speaker in a Mono rig, then bought a 2nd speaker to upgrade to stereo. Seems a bit late for each serial number, but I can't think of another reason to order a "Single" speaker, aside from a speaker eating dog or other such nonsense.
  8. John Galt is a voice talent who lives in Dallas.
  9. I thought Pictures at an Exhibition sounded pretty good.
  10. Looks like the woofers have been replaced to me. Just thinkin out loud.
  11. For all you purists, please note the NAIM recording label. They specialize in 2 mic direct to analog(Nagra Stereo), then to the cutting lathe...lps. I did just get a remarkable CD on the NAIM label titled, "Heartplay" which is a duet of Guitar(Antonio Forcione) and Double Bass (Charlie Haden). I'm assuming this was recorded with minimal gear as well. This is a combo I am not used to hearing together, so it took a couple of cuts to start sinking in. But oh, mein Gott, the double bass, thumping and buzzing just like they do in real sessions is incredible. If you have a few spare ducats I recommend getting it as it will test your system nicely.
  12. Just finished unpacking and hooking up my Oppo 980H to replace a failing cheap Sony 5 disc unit. Wow, I never thought I would be able to "hear" a difference in CD players. I am happy to be spanked on this one. Listening to "Ella and Louis" with a brig grin on my face. Thanks for all the reviews.

  19. Hey Rick, I plan on going to LSAF for at least one day. If my house was in habitable shape I would gladly have you over. However if you do get a chance to hear the Jubs I would love to tag along. At any rate, we should plan on meeting and taking in a few rooms.
  20. For all of you in the North Texas/Southern Oklahoma area, a great resource for live music...and GOOD live music is the University of North Texas College of Music in Denton. They have a calendar of all their events and they are numerous. I have found that even most of the student recitals are pretty inspiring...the College has a well deserved reputation for attracting outrageously good musicians. Then there are faculty recitals by some of the best musical pedagogues on the planet...a lot of them form informal performance groups that kick perverbial A$$. That live music calendar is located at: http://web3.music.unt.edu/calendar/
  21. I'm starting this thread with the express hope that it will become a place that we can all post upcoming (hopefully) live music events. The ultimate aim of most of our systems is to recreate the "live" experience, so I think it's important to get out there "Among the English" (what film did that come from?) and most importantly, socialize with other music lovers and indeed the musicians themselves. I've worked with a lot of industry legends in my official capacity in the past at the University of North Texas and I was almost always surprised at how willing they were to share with their audiences, the students, and the working professionals that tagged around them like puppies. Please be sure to note that this is not the case with "Pop" musicians...I know because I've worked with a lot of them as well. If you saw what they endured in terms of idiotic fan conduct, you would forgive them, as I do. So, I will start this thread off with "Baton Rouge Blues Week 2008". Web page while it lasts is: http://www.louisianasmusic.com/brbw05/ I have not been to this, but it looks to be a hoot with a lot of room for up close experiences and interaction. Plus a hell of an education. 22. I have the same arm sitting in my closet ready for a couple of turntable rebuilds. By chance I have a Shure V-15 III with Original stylus in pretty good shape as well as another V-15 III that came with a bad stylus. I ordered the Ed Saunders replacement stylus ($39) and the JICO Super Analogue Stylus ($99.95) so I can eventually see if there is a significant difference. Plus I just got a Shure M97Xe to see how it compares. Shure says it is analogous to the V-15. I also have a Grace 707 arm for a rebuild. I have 2 AR-XA's waiting major mods and a Sony TS-3000 as well awaiting mods. So I need a 3rd arm, but would like to go with a MC for grins. Any suggestions for a decent but affordable arm, preferably used?
  23. This time it was Thrift World in North Richland Hills. Not much choice, but some keepers. Columbia, Maynard Ferguson "M.F. I always liked Gabrieli and have very little of it. VG/NM
  24. Never heard one, so I got it as an experiment. We'll see if I like it or hate it. For $2, it's not like I'm taking a big chance. It can always be sold to pay for my other habit.
  25. Yesterday I stopped at my "most unlikely to produce anything" thrift store and found the following, all for $6.
