  1. These may not be completey accurate, but as best as I can recall the Tweeter clearance prices on the 3 series went something like this: $650 RF-3's $350 RS-3's $250 RC-3 So roughly $1250 for a new 3 setup. Now if he's giving you around $1100 for your gear which has some mileage on it, I'd say that's pretty decent. Then your new 7 gear at straight MSRP would be $3700 assuming the black ash finish: $1999 RF-7's $799 RC-7 $899 RS-7's So $3550 for the 7's isn't that great a discount, but I'm with m00n in that if you can pull the difference for $2450 it's still a good deal. ~shoe
  2. Well I've had on tryout from my local audio shop the Monster HTS-5100. I had taken it home one time before but only for a single early Saturday evening to late Sunday morning. This time my salesguy said "take it for a few weeks and see what you think" Well I've had it integrated with my system for a about two weeks now and here's what I've found. For non-digital cable TV, I haven't noticed any improvement to speak of though I can't really say that means the Monster is ineffective. I say that due to the fact that I'm located a few hundred feet from the cable source. Analog cable TV reception at my house has never been very impressive. For digital cable TV, there does appear to be at least a bit of improvement in the quality of the picture. For DVD movies, again rather unfair to pass judgement on the Monster. My video gear leaves a good bit to be desired as I'm running a non-progressive DVD player and CRT from the early 90's via S-Video. I would say that "noise" in the signal appears to be very slight if at all. Can't say the picture has really improved though. For audio, well now this is the primary reason I wanted to try out the unit to begin with besides the surge protection of course. I've listened back and forth with the Monster in and out of the system and I'd like to say it's an improvement with it in the system. Not a major difference I'd say, but perhaps at least a more silent background from which the music comes from. Now the more I've read about these products, the more interest I have in trying out the HTPS-7000 which is Monster's Balanced PLC. I've read that this unit by virtue of it's 60/60 balanced power is said to reduce the noise floor quite a bit which might provide more of a performance benefit for audio/video. Of course the mondo combo from Monster would be to combine the HTPS-7000 with the AVS-2000 voltage regulator. That would give you Balanced PLC, Voltage regulation, close to 100lbs worth of components for the rack and lots of pretty lights. Of course at the price of these two units, I could almost completely replace my Rotel gear 3x over in the event of lightning. At this point I'm unsure whether I'll keep the 5100 or try the 7000 or just go back to a simple strip surge protector and spend the extra money where it matters to me most, my music collection. At the least I will have some type of protection in place as the summer storms start to come around. Just my random .02 ramblings on the topic. I am glad this topic came back up though. We need more commentary regarding experiences with this kind of gear and not just who has bought what. ~shoe
  3. Ed~ What size TV is that you have on top of the Synergy? ~shoe
  4. After having uploaded pictures of my system and having TheEar call me out for not having my equipment in a proper audio stand , I placed an order today for the Salamander Synergy Twin 30 which will look exactly like the one in the attached picture. Just curious if anyone else on here has a Salamander and how you like it. ~shoe
  5. LETS GO CAPS! LETS GO CAPS! LETS GO CAPS! "I know they have a stranglehold," Lightning coach John Tortorella said. "We need everything going to crawl back into this." The loss was the fourth straight for the Lightning, who clinched their first Southeast Division title and home-ice advantage for the first round with two games left in the regular season. Now they have to regroup and try to save their season in Washington, where they haven't won since Nov. 4, 1998 -- a span of 11 games. 2-0 now. Bringing it back to MCI for the sweep. Not even close.
  6. I really like the DVD as well, but the bass is crazy on that disc. I had to get up and crank the 15's down quite a bit and I was cutting them at 40hz as is. ~shoe
  7. Scott~ Yeah I've seen that same thing on the non-DTS release as well. If I remember correctly it shows up a few times during the movie. I remember two instances of it. Once at the trench scence and then when Hanks is looking back from the guns. So what's the deal with that Kain? ~shoe
  8. I think your usage habits should guide your decision making. If you primarily play music, the 12 or the 15 RSW would be a great choice. From having had the 12 at one time it is plenty for music. The 15 does have a bit more low bass extension with more output, but only really on bass heavy rap have I noticed the benefit. I'm sure certain classical music could benefit from the 15 extension as well, but for 99% of your music either one would work very well. For HT, I think it's a different story. I've used the complete RSW series and have been happy with their performance in HT, but they are by no means the ultimate in ultra low bass. Besides the RSW's, the favorite HT sub on here from my reading is the SVS series. I don't doubt their performance capabiilities, but from an esthetic standpoint they're not my cup of tea. The only sub I have on my radar is the HGS-18 Velodyne. My local Tweeter dealer has advised me that they will be carrying them shortly. I'm sure you'll get more info/suggestions once theEars sees your post. ~shoe
  9. Michael~ I've had the 570's for over a year now. I really only bought them to enjoy my late night computer gaming. Plugged into the headphones output on my Klipsch 5.1's I'm very satisfied with the sound, but plug them into my Rotel preamp and it's another story. I definitely think that they need a dedicated amp to sound their best. ~shoe
  10. Having both a dedicated Rotel 2 channel setup and a Denon 3802, I would definitely say yes to Rotel for the 1066 and the 1075. In fact I've been thinking quite a bit about doing the 1066/1075 combo for a while now. Thing is I use my Klipsch 95% for music, so every time I get close to going for the combo, I end up saying that I'd prefer to put the 2k towards more music gear. Besides the Denon is perfectly fine for my HT needs. As multi-channel audio matures, I'm sure I'll take the plunge one of these days. The Rotel gear is slightly warm as others have said and because of that I've found it to be a great combo with Klipsch. ~shoe

Just curious if you have or not and wanted to know if you could tell a difference and what the difference was. ---------------- m00n~ Haven't tried that. I'll check it out and see what I find. To be honest with 2 15's I don't really have to do alot of hunting for added bass response if you know what I mean. Call it the lazy approach to bass. 95% of the time I'm running them with the 40hz crossover and say around 9 to 12 on the dial for music. Paired they add even bass power across the soundstage and if you crank it up, they plant you nicely into your seat. Sensation is comparble to zero to wide open throttle on my bike without leaving the house. ~shoe

Great dual RSW15 setup, nice RF7's. ---------------- The stand decision is proving harder than any of the equipment purchases have been, but I plan to get one shortly. ~shoe
  13. While I'm at it thought I would upload a pic of my other toy. ~shoe
  14. Last pic... My RB-5's on the Sanus Ultimate Foundation stands.
  15. Next pic.... RF-7 and RSW-15 on the left.
  16. Next pic..... RF-7 and RSW-15 on the right.
  17. I have one placed in each corner. I haven't tried stacking them yet. I listen to mostly music and I prefer the idea of having one at each side. I'll play around with placement one of these days. Anyway I'm sure my placement is far from perfect at this time, but they sound great to me as is. Thought I would upload a few pics of my setup. The first is from my sitting position showing the RF-7's and RC-7. My Rotel gear is up front for now as I've been trying out different interconnects and speaker cables. ~shoe
  18. Dell and the higher end Toshiba products get my vote. ~shoe
  19. Gordon, I have the RB-5's as my rear surrounds. I plan to use my setup much more for SACD/DVD-A than HT so I wanted a traditional monitor as opposed to the wide dispersion RS series. I had considered the RF-3's, but ultimately bought the RB's out of size, cabinetry, and flexibility concerns. I like the fact that they have the real wood cabinets and being much smaller than the RF-3's can be carried into the bedroom for a 2nd stereo system when not watching movies. Set them up with a pair of 24-26 inch Sanus stands and they sound great. ~shoe

I am looking for a pair that will go with my cherry RB-5's, Thanks. ---------------- dnaser~ Those are Sanus Natural Foundation stands. I have the Sanus Ultimates for my RB-5 surrounds. www.sanus.com for product info and check with your local Tweeter for availability if you have one nearby. I got the Ultimates from them for much less than MSRP. ~shoe
  21. We always talk about different subs, but never the cables we use to connect them with which begs a few questions: 1. What cable(s) are you using? 2. Have you tried more than one? If yes to #2 then: Any comments on differences amongst them? I've got each of mine connected with a 12ft Monster M-Series Bass 1000. Next.... ~shoe
  22. Picked up my 2nd RSW-15 today. Last one Tweeter had in the NE! ~shoe
  23. m00n, Ben~ Have you guys always stacked them like that? Curious if you've tried other locations, configurations. Like say one on in each corner or one in front and one behind. ~shoe
  24. I know mOOn has a 15 and a 12. I think the EARs has/had a 15 and a 10. Anyone else have more than one and if so what combo do you have? Comments/opinions regarding the upgrade would be appreciated. ~shoe
  25. Looks like Kman holds the record for most clearance Klipsch. Anyone do better than he did? ~shoe
