  1. And rocky said, doc its only a scratch And Ill be better, Ill be better doc as soon as I am able
  2. Ok guys, I need your help. My HT includes the RF-3II, RC-3 and 4 RS-3 in a 7.1 setup. I would like to upgrade everything to the RF-7 package but that is pretty well out of my reach. My question is: Would I benefit if I buy a pair of RF-5's for my mains and send my current RF-3II's for surround duty? Since I live in mexico, prices here go "ALOT" more higher than in the U.S. and I don't want to risk buying speakers in the states and importing to mexico so the RF-7's are out of the question, I can get a decent price on the RF-5's. Your thoughts? Thanks, Jose.
  3. Bill, I appreciate your suggestions on the subwoofer issue, I am more inclined to go the RSW-12 or 15 route since my preferences go about 50% music and 50% movies....The RF7's are little father down the road for me but I have them in my sight. As far as taking the time to get to know the 54TX I couldn't agree with you more on this, as far as receivers I have owned in the past (yamaha & H/K) this one is a more complex unit. I ran the MCACC and the results just amazed me, I want to get to the point where I can tweak it manually but right now I am more than satisfied.
  4. Regarding the bass on the Elite, I mentioned the bass with my subwoofer....I forgot to mention that without the sub I do like the bass that the elite is delivering....keep in mind that the RF3II's aren't that bass heavy in the first place...nothing compared to say the RF7's from what I have read but the elite holds it's own.
  5. I just received my Pioneer ELite this past friday and I'm only now beginning to get more into the details of it. I can say this, regarding the initial setup the MCACC is truly something extraordinary, the way is goes about calibrating your speakers really impressed me. This is my first ELite but I did alot checking on the different forums and I do agree with the general opinion on how the MCACC functions. There is an "expert" mode in which you can, amongst other adjustments, manually adjust the 5 band graphic equalizer for each channel (I just went into the setup mode and verified this). As far as the bass goes I like the bass I am getting from the yammy subwoofer, I must admitt that it isn't anything out of this world but I can only imagine how much better my bass can be by getting a much better subwoofer. I feel that you most defintely would have to audition one for yourself. I can't say that I dislike anything on the Elite since I'm still on a learning with it but I am very happy with what I have seen/heard up to now. I will keep on "playing with it" during the coming days and will post my impressions here. I how hope I shed some light.
  6. Don't what happened with photo # in my orginal post but here it goes.
  7. Good afternoon to all: I haven't posted in the forum for quite awhile but I have been reading the many interesting posts in the different threads. I just wanted to ask your opinion as to what you guys you think of my current home theater setup, lastest addition to it is the Pioneer ELite VSX-54TX which has just replaced an H/K 520 which served very well. Next upgrade is the subwoofer, I want to change the Yammy for a SVS or RSW-12, not sure yet which way to go on this one. I will appreciate any comments. I don't know how to upload multiple photos so I will go one by one, here's the first one. Thanks guys.
  8. Same here with OneCall. Bought my H/K 520 from them this past february, everything hassle free, good customer service. I'd buy again from them. My 2 cents.
  9. Lance, As others have said, you won't be disappointed with the H/K 525 especially when combined with klipsch. I have the 520 and I am more then happy with it. H/K & klipsch complement each in a formidable way. If your desicion has been narrowed down to the options you have mentioned in your post then go for the H/K, but then again that is my opinion. The final call is yours and more so that of your ears, that's the fun part. Take care.
  10. Here in mexico we have both region 1 (USA and Canada) and region 4 (latin america). When the region 4 discs started to come out I noticed that there were differences in the additional features that are included in the dvd's. Most recent discs are almost identical in terms of content compared to the region 1. Packaging also differs. A couple of weeks back I bought the "Back to the Future" trilogy in region 4, the store where I bought it had the region 1 set playing on a big screen TV and I looked a the menus and they were the same as the region 4. Another observation, region 4 since it destined for use in latin america, basically has english, spanish, and portuagese. Region 1 has english and french and most recent titles are now including spanish.
  11. My receiver is in a wooden "tower type" rack, it has 1/2" free space on both sides and 8" plus on the top, the back of the rack is at least 1 1/2 feet from the back wall. Do you think this is sufficient space for the air flow ? I have noticed that it runs much warmer/hotter (even at moderate levels) then my previous yamaha.
  12. It hasn't been long since I bought my H/K 520 (end of january) and it has turned off by itself on two different occasions, the most recent being a few minutes ago while watching SHREK. My output level was @ -20db, mains set to large, the rest to small, sub being sent to both mains & subwoofer. When I was "shopping around" prior to my decision on purchasing the H/K 520 I remember reading some posts on other forums (don't remember which) in which a similar question was raised, unfortunately as I said I can't remember in which forums. At the time, I didn't take the issue serious enough for it to chnage my final decision on my purchase. I have seen a couple of members (m00n, orange peel) who have the same unit; have you guys had this experience before ? Any other owners of this receiver have any comments ?
  13. ---------------- On 2/19/2003 8:59:17 PM William F. Gil McDermott wrote: 1) I infer that the Yamaha was previously used in some application, and there was not a problem. Is that correct? Before I bought the H/K I was using a yamaha RX-v2092 receiver. The stand alone amplifier was being used to passively bi-amp my RF3 II's having the stand alone feed the woofers and the receivers amp feed the tweeters. With this setup the problem was always present but given the fact that the stand amp alone was feeding the woofers of the RF 3II's the noise was not that noticable. 2) Now, just sitting there, powered up, with just the speakers connected, you hear the station through the speakers connected to the Yamaha. My guess this is an AM station with transmitter close to your location. I do have a radio station in the area about a couple of miles away but why didn't my previous yamaha receiver or my current H/K have/has this problem ? If indeed the radio station was being fed through the speaker wires wouldn't this type of situation be present with my current receiver ? 3) Try to get to condition 2) and let us know how things are going. If there are no input jacks connected to anything, then perhaps the radio signal is getting into the Yamaha through the speaker wires. I'm guessing that a change from 1) is that you added some longer speaker wires to make the run to the surrounds. Just a guess. My speakers runs were much shorter when I was using the stand alone amp in the bi-amping configuration. 3.1) Sometimes, radio frequency waves can get into the amp via the speaker wires. It is my understanding that the negative feedback circuit is part of the path. 4) If I had the problem I'd try to diagnose the "speaker wires as antennae" theory buy plugging some headphones into the Yamaha with the speakers attached. This would work as a test if it possible to listen on the headphones and the speakers. I don't know if your amp allows that. It might be that the act of plugging in the headphones disconnects the speakers. Unfortunatley my yamaha amp does not have a headphone jack. Would it be worth while buying the capacitors you mention and give it a try ? I have a RS in the area. I really appreciate your feedback on this matter. Jose. 5) Let's assume the radio station can be heard on the headphones with the speaker wires attached. See if the radio station goes away when the speaker wires are disconnected. I'm assuming that the wires to the headphones are not an effective antenna. 6) If you determine that the speaker wires are the effective receiving antennae, the issue becomes what to do about it. 7) I would buy some 0.1 uF or 0.047 uF ceramic disk capacitors from RS. They used to carry these, anyway. Connect them across the speaker outputs of the Yamaha. They go in parallel with the speaker wires. 8) The disk capacitors should short out any RF at about 1 megahertz getting back into the amp. They have no effect at audio frequencies. Let us know. 14. dougdrake, I just disconnected the yamaha amp from the H/K and the noise is still coming through, I can still hear that darn radio station. Any thoughts ?
  15. I'll have to check that when I get home today. I'll get back to you on it. And I really appreciate your feedback on this this issue. Jose.
  16. It is a stand alone dedicated amp. Since the H/K 520 has only 5 channels, I have it's pre outs, which give it a 6.1/7.1 configuration, connected to the yamaha so there is no source components connected to it, just the speakers for the surround back channel. Jose.
  17. Well I finally set up my new H/K 520 in a 6.1 configuration using a spare yamaha amplifier I had for the surround back channel. The only problem I have is that I'm getting noise through the yamaha amp, you can clearly hear a radio station coming through. I've changed the interconects and still the same problem. I've plugged the amp to an ac line filter I have and still the problem persists. I'm about to pull the hairs out of my head because of this, it is very annoying. Any suggestions ????? Thanks, Jose.
  18. mopar dave, I still have the yamaha but I bought the H/K520 just a few days ago. To tell you the truth, the yammy is one good piece of audio gear and has served me well over the past 4 years. This past summer I bought the whole klipsch reference 3 system. When I hooked them up to my yammy I noticed right away that the sound was much more brighter that my prvious speakers (infinitys). From the differnet threads I have been reading over the months I saw that the yammays tended to sound brighter with the klipsch. I also read that H/K match very well with klipsch. I did in fact have the opportunity to make an a/b comparison taking my yammy to a dealer here in mexico who carries H/K and matched both of them with the klipsch. I did in fact like the sound more coming out of H/K than the yamaha. Also, I like the fact that the H/K gives you the opportunity to tailor the bass/lfe output by handling different crossover freg. the yamaha has a fixed crossover @90hz. I also liked he LOGIC 7 that the H/K has. I can't say I didn't like the yammy, I loved it. But upon hearing the H/K it won me over. I can't comment on the denon because I haven't heard them in a detailed form but I hear that they also match very well with klipsch. Different features, different costs, different tradeoffs. It's just a matter of what is more important to you in terms of cost/beneifit and your ears, those will be the final judge. I hope I have shed some light here. Enjoy yourself while your at it because in the end that's all that matters. Take care !!!!
  19. Hey manufanatic, Hold on there for a minute. I gave my name as a reference to m00n because I am really happy with the way I was treated by Brain at onecall.com being that I live in mexico and sometimes e-tailers will kind of think twice before they deal outside the U.S. (actually had emailed shortly before my post's) Now, at after I read your post I paid more attention to the email I received when they shipped my 520 and toward the end I found that 1% deal you mention. Trust me I not in it for money even more so living where I live. BTW - Yes, it was you who made the 1st. reference about onecall.com. Take care !!!
  20. mOOn, onecall.com is an authorized dealer with full warranty Get a hold of brain @: bl@onecall.com Tell him Jose de los Santos sent you. I bought my H/K 520 form him. Very good C.S.
  21. Hey mOOn, You can also check out onecall.com They have the 8000 at 1,138.55 usd plus shipping until 1/31. I was considering this model but setteled for the 520 instead (budget issues).
  22. Sorry, I realized after my post that if I use the yamaha with 2 RB-3's there is no issue in running them in parallel or series, the HK 520 will feed both left and right rear center. I don't know what I wss thinking.
