  1. you could always try building your own. Right now I'm working on a projevt using 4 KT88 tubes (high power stuff), when it's done, it should turn out about 100 watts of class AB power. I would choose this route for your first one, not only because it's much cheaper, but you learn tons! Tell me what you think. ------------------ -Trevor
  2. besides, the SVS IMO are ugly. ------------------ -Trevor
  3. stop bashing my rsw-15 !!! I love it! ------------------ -Trevor
  4. hey moon, I own one of the higher end sony's. http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-3L15OZRStia/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=6&g=54400&I=158DVPNS9H&o=m&a=0 I picked it up for around 549, and would recomend it too anyone. perfect picture, great sound (195 mhz processors for front, rear, and center.). great player of SACD's too. tell me what you think! ------------------ -Trevor
  5. my general rule of thumb when buying audio products is, "Quality goes hand in hand with Weight". I believe this to be accurate too. With receivers or amps, more weight woulf mean a larger power supply/transformer. With speakers, it means big magnets and sturdy cabnits. what are some of your rules? ------------------ -Trevor
  6. hey, with all this talk of buying expensice amps and receivers, I figured I'd post something you all should know. BUILDING YOUR OWN TUBE AMP IS SIMPLE!!!!!!! I am building my third one right now as a matter of fact. It is 100 real watts instead of the "100 watts rms pc" that receivers have (people have rated them at around 25 usuable. wow, shows how much 100 would be!). You can build a 100 watt for around 700 if you using nice components(power transformer, output transformer, tubes, high uf capacitors, etc.). Go to this link, it's a great circuit. http://www.mc-h.demon.co.uk/hpamp100w.html Keep in mind you also have to build the power supply, and input/driver stage (included in cost). If you have quwstions post them here. p.s. sorry for typing errors, my finger got caught in a door and messed up. ------------------ -Trevor This message has been edited by prodj101 on 08-15-2002 at 02:18 AM

  8. Hey, the circuit that is on that picture link is the one I used to build my mono amps. The total cost for everything, is around $550. The cost is alot less though if you take shortcuts like using a transistor power supply instead of tube, and using lesser quality tubes. I built that circuit using 4 KT88 Svetlana tubes for power output, than there are other tubes in the input/driver stage, plus the rectifier tube. As far as difficulty goes, they are much simpler than you would think, the hardest part is learning how to read the circuits, which isn't to tough when your dad was a DJ and had to build all his own . The first one took me about a week to build days of modest work time to build, the second one was much faster. If you know what you're doing you can put one together in a day without alot of trouble. Plus, a 100 watt tube amp for 550 dollars is a real bargain.a 100 watt tube amp for 550 dollars is a real bargain. I hope this helps! -Trevor ------------------ -Trevor
  9. Hey everyone, I've been waiting forever to be able to get my stupid digital camera to work with my comp so I could get you a pic of my system and see what you think. Keep in mind that I'm just a 14 year old who has worked summer jobs for 3 years to earn the money for this system. The set includes: Sony DVP-NS900V-DVD/SACD player Some 100 watt tube amps I built myself a tube pre amp I built myself SF-2's for the front. SC-1 center SF-1's for the rear RSW-15 for the sub, it's behind the sofa in that pic. cheap Pioneer receiver that I use for surround. Monster cable M Series through and through. In my basement I also have some turntables, a mixer, a sony 5 disc and another vintage tube amp that I aquired from a garage sale. ------------------ -Trevor
  10. hey, I agree that the SVS are a great sub, however, since you can get the Klipsh RSW-15 from a unautherized dealer for about 1200 dollars, pairing 2 of them I believe would outperform a pair of SVS. As we all know, the larger the driver, the more air the subwoofer will be able to displace, and more displacement, more spl! The total surface area for the 2 12 inch SVS subs would be 226.08 inches, while the klipsch would be 382.5. Plus, the klipsch would also be 650 watts RMS per channle rather than 500. I own an RSW-15 and I'm very happy with it, so I will naturaly be defensive, however I think it's a very good sub. ------------------ -Trevor
