  1. the size between the subs doesn't make a difference, you'll just want to make sure you get the crossovers set right. whats going to give you the most trouble is room placement. they should be placed close together, or even stacked, or the wave lengths could cancel eachother out. usually the ideal is to have both in the same corner.
  2. here's my cabin system.....I added the Polk Audio PSW303 subwoofer to it today, and it really gave the sound some body. I must say I am impressed with this sub and the Henry Kloss table radio set up...it kills the other table radio set ups.....especially the bose.
  3. maybe you guys just go deaf to the frequencies that seem "harsh"

I hope if this is a highschool health class that you are putting just as much effort into your grades as you are this forum. YES, YOU CAN TAKE A GUESS AS TO MY PROFESSION ---------------- ?I only have 5 posts a day....thanks again for all the responses.
  5. yeah, I am looking forward to writing it. We got to chose our own topics so I figured something audio related would be my ticket.
  6. I posted this before but it got deleted or something.

While true in its origional form...Not so in this case. But look, I will cut you some slack... You at least knew of Dave Brubeck, and also knew this was not the name of the CD, (Traditionally) so Kudos!! I love it when I am corrected only to go back n re correct the corrector. I grew up with Dave Brubeck. I have both of these CD's//and others. What you will find is the Take Five CD recorded here for your listening pleasure gives more of a spectrum of Daves work. Just so you know here is the link on the "Take Five" CD http://music.onino.co.uk/music/take_five_2.html Also note it is a 2001 release. Sometimes the newer releases sound as good as, if not better than, the originals too. THATS why I started in this direction for him here. THE GREATEST SELECTION OF BRUBECK TUNES!! If you haven't herd any Brubeck music, this is the album you must get first, besides Time Out. This album has the greatest assortment of Brubeck tunes I ever herd in the best order. You'll love this music, and the album itself. ---------------- whats with the attitude? I just figured you were talking about the original recording....
  8. lookin good man. I'm glad to hear it's all you expected.

Almost 100% sure.. it will win you over. May not be your all time favorite CD music style wise, but my guess is you will come back to this one time and time again. I was very fortunate to grow up in a house where my father listend to a lot of different music. I bet every 2-3 months...I still play this one..sit back n smile on the big ole horns...LOL.. ---------------- Take Five is not the name of the album, it's "Time Out"...Take Five is the name of the smash hit single that is on it. I also wouldn't reccomend any of the Miles Davis stuff (especially Kind Of Blue) for your first step into jazz. It's your basic jazz without any flare that you have to learn to appreciate. I would suggest a cd like Simply Said by Kenny Garret. He uses alot of funk beats and more up beat rythms that make it much more easy to get into. I think if you start with something like Kind Of Blue or something from John Coltrane you'll be turned off. I'm not saying any of the albums mentioned are bad, Kind Of Blue is one of my personal favorites, I just don't think they're good starters.
  10. thanks guys....way too many people do MJ, I think theres 5 in my class alone doing it. I thought my chances of getting a good gread would be better if I did something unique. Has anyone here ever used this plug in for winamp that makes the music pulse in a patter than is supposed to relax or energize you? I've tried it before and it really did seem to have an effect when used wit hheadphones, though I'm not sure if it wasn't just a placebo.
  11. well anyway in my health class we have to pick a topic and research it, then write a 7-9 page paper on how it relates to health. Considering how much I like music, the first thing that came to mind was how it could relate to physical health. I know I've read places that it can lower blood pressure and have several other positive effects as well as raise blood pressure and instigate negative feelings. Does anyone know how exactly music does these things? Are there specific frequencies or rythmical patterns that cause a change in human behavior?
  12. also note that the PSW303 is finished in real wood veneer, not whatever the SWS have on them.
  13. I took it apart to see what it was REALLY made of, and I was impressed. the woofer has a pretty big motor structure for just an 8 inch, and the cab is made out of 3/4 inch thick MDF which is good for a sub this side. it is braced along the top and sides, and the seperator for the slot loaded port also serves as a brace. this driver is much more beefy than that of the SWS, so eat your heart out
  14. here's the back. you can see the slot loading.
  15. ok, I couldn't post before on how it is because I was kind of busy....but so far it does exactly what I wanted it for. it's not room shaking or anything, but then again you can't really expect an 8 inch 100 watt sub to do anything that would register on the richter scale. it goes more than low enough, and has just the right amount of power. I'm going to be using it in a henry kloss table radio system (I also have the cd player to go with it, I just didn't get the sub they make because it looked a little too wimpy), and this system is just for light background music so it should do the job well.
  16. I have never heard the promedia sub described this way. is it possible that he blew it?
  17. spending that much on denon would be like buying the new VW Phaeton.....who buys a Phaeton for $80,000 when you can buy a BMW 700 series or Mercedes?

    SACD

well, if there was a drive that could decode it I think that anything gained in quality over CD would be lost after the signal was passed through the average sound card. But otherwise, no I don't think there is any consumer SACD decoding software/hardware for the computer yet.
  19. I'd go with an RSW-12 or 15, but from a price/performance standpoint most will probably say the SVS wins, though they don't come close in the looks deparment unless you get a B4 or SS Ultra set up.
  20. hey horn ed, good to see you back in action....
  21. I own an RSW-15 and love it. It has plenty of low end, looks that kill the SVS, and sounds wonderful.
  22. I have to say avoid alienware at all costs, I had a very bad run in with them and I have read plenty of negative testimonials about their customer service. I built my last computer, and I suggest you do the same. there are alot of online resources on the topic and it doesn't take more than an hour to do.
  23. I just ordered a PSW 303 and should have it by the end of the week, I'll tell you what I think of it when it gets here.
  24. well this system will just be used for background music, not awakening sleeping giants, and for this I think it will do fine. I didn't have the money to get the 404 or 505, plus those are pushing the size limits (this cabin great room system is designed to BLEND not cause headachs and pace maker malfunctions)
