  1. You are using good SET, why worry? Mine is Jadis 300B 10W, very good result, I actually use the 3619 transformer and experiment 4-0 and 4-x taps with success, no problem, just a taste preference for listening to different music, just attach the extra wire soldering at the tap x and connect it to ground when 4-x is preferred, done in a minute. I am experimenting the single driver full range open baffle design now and have fun but busy to mod. the Belle further. But can recommend type A without reservation. Tubelion
  2. Hi Khorn58, There is a 54 Khorn asking for an offer in the 2-channels audio forum. Though ugly paint indeed Tubelion
  3. Hi John, Thanks , you are always helpful. I will search the information about the JBL. I ask beacause the alnico k55v and k77 to me are better than m version, so I am looking for alnico woofer. Tubelion
  4. Ship internationally! How much to Hong Kong? and How! I really like to have this pair.
  5. Has anyone tried this before? Any hints what to do in the process? As 288 has been tried by Qman with good result, is it worth to try? Thanks Tubelion
  6. Hi John, where to get University C15W ? how much for a pair? Any idea about Magnavox 15' alnico drivers? Thanks Tubelion
  7. I bought a pair of K77 at ebay, it is better than the original K77m sonically in my Belle and SET tube gear. Again, K55V sounds better than the m-version , I bought it a bit earlier, it is the partner of K77, with the help of K77, the performance is synergistically better. I am looking for bass woofer of alnico, but hard to find, never see one in ebay, anyone know the source to buy one pair. Would like to like the performance of the latest x-version which is alnico. Tubelion
  8. Hi John, I have switched back to 4-0 taps in the output, 5-0 in the input for 2 days. Is it your setting? To connect to 4-x seems easy , just to connect one more wire from tap x to ground. I will try later. Tubelion
  9. Hi John, Thanks for your information and schematic. I am using my type A, now switch back to 4-0. That should be OK. I did ask AL, switch to 4-x should not make a big change of frequency in type A. So I may try later. The new crossover you shared is a bit complicated that leaves from the simplicity that I prefer right now, but I appreciate much you share it to me. Thanks again Tubelion
  10. Hi John, I think AL's advice about polarity is for his crossover, I will keep exactly to the type A schematic you showed above. I am experimenting with 4-0 at the output right now , knowing it is the PWK's original design, sound is different to 4-x, I will wait for a while to see which setting is better, but I find it easy to shift, just disconnect the x to ground, then it is 4-0, using the 0 as common ground, reconnect the wire x to ground then it is 4-x, change is done within half a minute. change to other setting needs soldering such as 5-2, so I will leave that for the moment. Hope I have connected it right. Tubelion
  11. Hi John, Thanks for your information as I suspect the number may or may not mean the same thing in different transformer. So 4-0 is the default in T2a, Do I need to check it is the same as the 4-0 in 3619? So I will convert 4-x back to 4-0 in my 3619 to go back where PWK designed. I am also bit confused as AL stated in his website that the + - polarity is changed in his design, so for input tap 5 is + , tap 0 is - side and ground. for output, tap x is +, 4 is -. In my type A, it seems tap 4 is +, x is - side, am I correct? Thanks again Tubelion.
  12. I learn from AL and John Warren that original type AA used 4-0 in the output, 5-0 in the input. The original type AB2 and AL3 used 3-0 in the output in my Belle and La Scala. I never saw a old original type A in this forum, would like to ask the default setting by PWK in type A. AL also suggested some other taps setting like 5-2 and 4-x, in the ALK crossover. I would like to ask the users of type A, what settings you are using. Thanks for any comment Tubelion
  13. Hi Qman or john, May I see a photo show the other side of transformer so that I can copy the setting. I need to see clearly as I cannot solder it myself , I have to ask the technician to do it for me, better with a photo. It is really a good work, anything special about the wire? Thanks SZE
  14. Dear AL, It is a bit clearer now. But in the past, you posted the db attenuation in different settings that is not 1.5 or 3 db apart, closer like 0.6 db. Thanks
  15. Dear AL, It is what Mr Jensen replied, certainly not in detail. "Dear SZE, It is the same old story again!!! Everyone knows, that the dissipation factor(D) for a paper capacitor is higher than a polypropylene capacitor, meaning that the Q - which is 1/D - is lower. But to conclude, that there is a correlation between this number Q and the sound quality is not correct. Each capacitor has a different "sonic fingerprint", and you have to listen to the equipment to find out what type is most favourable to you. You can put up different theoretical theories, but it all comes down to one thing: What you hear is not what you measure. Most of our customers have chosen our capacitors from their sonic performance, and no theory can change their satisfaction. Best regards Hans J. Jensen"
  16. Dear John and AL, I am not familiar with 3619 and Type AA, so I need you to explain a little further, maybe with photo, what is the default setting? tap 4 and what other tap? Can I have the photo on both sides of transformer? Mine is 4 and x on the same side, yours is on both sides. Can anyone tell me the default setting of type A? I like to use what PWK used. Thanks very much Tubelion
  17. Dear John Warren I notice your great crossover use 3619 transformer which I recently upgrade too. Do you worry about the change of crossover frequency in different taps ? What is the tap setting you are using? Have you experimented the settings? Thanks a lot Tubelion
  18. very well made type AA! Expensive as well! Why would the efficiency decrease by using tap x? Thanks Tubelion
  19. Hi AL, No sorry , I am glad to hear good information. I don't know much the technical stuff, but I pass your question to Mr Jensen, he usually answer my question as I bought caps from him, hope he will go in the details with your concern. In my past discussion with him, he is so serious in experimenting his product, for example, aluminum case against copper, then paper case, with or without rubber seal. He said the best case is paper case without rubber seal. Of course silver lead. I am sure you understand my joy in playing audio, not really serious in the theory, I am serious to learn something interesting. About your caps, they don't sell much in ebay, no body at the 50ties knew what to keep, some are so expensive and with so many bidders to fight for that, they must be attractive in some ways to a wide dimension of fans, most of them are DIY, I guess. I will post jensen's reply if I get it, and let you know. Tubelion
  20. Hi, It seems to be a COMMON problem. So for 104db speaker we have, what would be the distance that we start to hear no hum? In my case, 3 feet. Just want to know what is considered accetable or normal to one, but not to others like cut-throat. I doubt there is anyone who doesn't have a hizz with the ear near the tweeter, am I right? Tubelion
  21. hello Al, Of course I am interested in seeing them, but in 51 Khorn , it is the bigger caps that is striking. Don't know which brand it is. bath tubs or motor run is not of much concern. But those have a reputation certainly worth a lot. If you have a treasure, why not see how much they are, or AL try to build one ALK with some oil caps, and let us know how bad or good they are. I am glad to buy the WE caps 150 dollars for six 4mf caps. See http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=3020543982&rd=1 It is now 84 for a used pair of 4mf WE caps I am using. Don't know how high it will go in the end, a few hours to go. tubelion
  22. Hi leok, Yes, I probably won't do it myself. But it will be great to learn something new and interesting. Apart from quiet, floating the ground and reduce the distortion from ground contamination. Here in Hong Kong, we live in the 16 floor building, the ground is noisy. Can you share your schematic? I can find someone to do the job for me. Thanks in advance Tubelion
  23. Hello Khorn58, I can't see clearly the pictures especially the taps setting. What taps are available ? which is the default setting in your 58 crossover? Your 51 khorn has no transformer nor L-pad? Your 51 oil caps looks much better than the two in the links. Tubelion
  24. Hi, I am interested to learn how to mod the floating ground, schematic is appreciated. I do not have the skill cut throat has, but will try, I do have hizz if put he ear to speaker, but can't hear it even at 3 feets from Belle, is it OK? Thanks in advance Tubelion
