  1. After running some measurements and checking what parts I had on hand and seeing how they modeled in LTSpice I just put a 1.3uF cap across the tweeter. green=CDX1-1412 wide open. orange=CDX1-1412 with the 1.3uF capacitor. brown=stock K-79. Honestly if I had another K-79 on hand I would probably just use it to replace the busted one I’ve got. But, since I don’t, it’s nice to be able to replace it with something with better power handling that can hang out past 20kHz. Time to go see if there are any lonely dogs at the local brewery and check out the classic rock cover band playing tonight.
  2. Working on those KP-250. This little guy is a perfect fit although he’s a few dB hotter than the K79. I’ve got the crossover circuit modeled up in LTSpice but I’m going to get some measurement curves first before I decide how much I think I need to pad it down. Unlike another popular tweeter driver, this one gets all the way to 20kHz with no problem. It’s Saturday morning and I’ve got to make a cup of coffee and decide what what else I’m going to get done today.
  3. Left side of the house from the pole. Conduit under the eaves around the corner of the house to where it drops down into the meter. 🧐
  4. Power is coming in on the left side of the house.
  5. Electret condenser mics do lose their charge over time. I’m not aware of any way to recharge the capsule but you might be able to find a suitable replacement capsule online. There is also slight possibility that the capacitor in power supply section of the control box has gone bad. I’ve got a couple of older Shure SM91 and one is pretty much completely dead and the other has very reduced output. Some of Audio Technica’s(and others) recent electret condensor mics have a much much longer projected lifespan due to changes in materials used and charging methods during manufacturing.
  6. He was the best kitty. But little Mr. sawdust for brains was also the best kitty.
  7. Out listening to the piano man at the local bar. This dog belongs to my neighbor at the end of my street. He’s busy getting drunk and trying to hit on all the young girls. His dog is pretty nice though.
  8. Well, there’s a reason I kept my interest to the pet dog. My estranged wife and I are still legally married…
  9. Congrats! I hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for you.
  10. I think only the fretboard was ebony on those. The 50’s era black LP customs used a one piece Honduran mahagony body. The headstock overlay is typically dyed black holly wood.
  11. It looks like my worries concerning the low pass nature of the plenum volume were correct. but, it’s much flatter than the K33 regarding the famous bump at 148Hz. There might be(probably are) better drivers out there for this but these were $10 each.
  12. Correct. I think “shoehorned” would be the correct nomenclature. they are supposed to be wired in series/parallel with one woofer in each pair wired as if they were out of phase since they are facing the same direction. This should put everything correctly in phase while reducing 2nd order distortion due to balancing out any driver nonlinearities and vibration. or whatever. I don’t think the original version that Dennis made was ever measured and this might only be the second time anyone has tried this. The specs on the woofer suggest that it will work well but the plenum chamber firing into the throat can also act as a low pass filter and I haven’t really modeled that part of it in Hornresp.
  13. I think so. still, I made some sawdust this evening.
  14. I have several irons in the fire right now but today I’m trying to make some progress on another one of DJK’s ideas for the LS.
  15. I’ve cleaned the K-76 style diaphragms before by carefully removing the nuts that hold it together and then lifting the horn off, then for the diaphragm itself I dusted it very lightly with a soft paintbrush until the dust and fuzzies were gone.
  16. I had a Bluetooth speaker in my bag playing the Gravity Falls theme song and a bunch of remixes.
  17. 26° this morning when I got the kids on the bus and we are supposed to have a high of 42° today. I think it was about 40° last night when we were out trick or treating. We hit up most of the shops in downtown and then headed over to the neighborhood next to mine and the kids made the rounds there before we headed to my buddies place for a Halloween party and to get warm. The eyepatch kept some heat from escaping my left eyeball. The kids all claimed they were plenty warm.
  18. Another photo from Saturday night’s party. other than the face paint, this is pretty much how we usually dress.
