  1. Your amperex tube should be broken in if they are vintage. Mine sounded great as soon as I plugged them in. Same for the Russian "Rocket" tubes. The Philips sounded thinner and much less bass.
  2. Upsampled AH! is a world apart from the base model. It must also have at least the Russian "Rocket" tubes too ( $15 each). The stock Philips are thin. Big difference.
  3. I don't "want" to pay for radio, but about $12 per month so that you don't have to burn CD's and its something that he will use 10+ hours a day. I'd say well worth it. Huge entertainment and all you have to do is switch channels. Ipods are great, but they have to be programmed. Sattelite radio is just a huge amount of channels where there has to be somehting entertaining. I'd do it in a heartbeat if I wasn't on the phone and in meetings all day. I got a small taste of it working late a few nights and the programming was awesome. If I was out in a field all day I'd get both sattelite radio and an Ipod (my wife grew up on a ranch - long days alone, entertainment is well worth it). I pay a lot more for other things that I don't use much, like cable TV.
  4. Austin Hardwoods. It does have a pre-applied glue back. It was hard to tell but I figured it out. The label says "Pre-glued." I should work for the FBI. I have an amazing grasp of the obvious.
  5. I don't have one but my wife does. First, thank your wife (don't let her see this thread!!) The convience of the ipod should be very nice (80 gigs is a lot). CD's are difficult and a lot of work. That being said, if I were in the field 8 hours a day, definately go for sattelite radio. Even though the sound quality is low (it has a low bit rate - someone correct me if I am wrong), there is so much program material and you will no longer need to burn CD's. I tried it at work (IT had one hooked to an FM modulator). Awesome program amterial. Nothing like FM. Tons of channels and music that you have not heard in a long time. When you don't want music there is talk radio, lots of it. I'd say it is a must have for a job that allows you to listen all day.
  6. Thanks, The plywood is very high quality and I don;t think has any voids. I will have to check. If it does do I just use wood filer and sand it? You said to sand the surface before appllying. What grit?
  7. Think about it like putting new high performace tires on a sports car that is very badly out of alignment. The caps need to be in spec to maintain the correct crossover points and behave in a manner that was anticipated by the designer. Bob is a pro when it comes to crossovers, follow the light...
  8. OK, dumb question. I am building some cabinets and bought some veneer edge banding to do the exposed sides of the plywood. I am pretty sure that the salesperson said to just iron it on, which means that it already has thr glue on it and it just needs to be activated. two questions: How do I tell if it already has the glue? (I have not opened it yet but I am pretty sure it has it) What setting do I use on the iron and how do I do it? I printed the article from when Gary's Heresys were veneered in tigerwood. He had use glue there and then iron within 72 hours.
  9. Don't know, related to the Lis Pendens I suppose. Makes it a difficult situation to fix, a very expensive.
  10. That's exactly what I used to say when I was dating...
  11. File a notice to vacate on residing party (assumes no legal right to reside). Seller has to provide clear title so must satisfy Lis Pendens. If unwilling or unable buyer must decide whether to satisfy itself & complete transaction, sue seller for specific performance, or walk away. My advice - go to the seller and demand the $5,000 back. Don't get me involved because it would easily cost $5,000 to $10,000 and the spread is only $15,000. Even for me to just review the situation would easily be over $1,000 and the result would be me telling them that it is a mess, which I already knew. We are in a declining market and there are plenty of homes available, pass on this one and save the legal fees. The bottom line, the lawyer needs to pass on a nice payday because in the end the client will not be better off and it will be money wasted.
  12. Oh man, another ringer. This forum is full of lawyers, I'm taking my business elsewhere.
  13. I still have my Denon DRA95 that I bought in 1988 for $500 when I was 19. If you want a serious bang for the buck receiver, I just bought a Panasonic XR25 digital receiver. The new XR57's are under $300 at JR.com and the XR55's are liek $220. I have it hooked up to a pair of B&W DM3000's (tower speakers) and it is really nice.
  14. B&W N801's. They are rated at "8 ohms" but dip down to about 3 ohms.
  15. You have to think outside of the box. What do you tell them?
  16. Hey, no ringers. I don't think Jeff awards bonus points for "the most legaleze in one paragraph"

  18. Did you find your old law school exams in a box behind your Christmas tree when you dug it out? These are good questions.
  19. That's actually really good advice. But here is the thing, what do you advise this person in a real world situation? Anyone? How about the non-lawyers?
  20. Here's a real world one. Buyer has entered into a contract to buy a house from Seller and has a $5,000 earnest money deposit in esrow. Buyer discovers a Lis Pendens (notice of a lawsuit) on title. Buyer goes to the house and there is someone (not the Seller) living in the house. The contractual price for the house is $15,000 below market value ($425,000 vs $440,000 market value). The Las Vegas real estate market is level and/or declining. They want to move into the house because they like it. What do I advise Buyer?
  21. Yea, since you spilled the beans I can say it. I really like Paul and Rick (3d's) answers.
  22. OK, this thread is stalled. Here is a hint: http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-104.html Its pretty much the same everywhere.
