  1. Oh, I almost forgot. You asked what kind of speaker wire to use. For the fronts, I get something higher in quality. Especially for the center, this is where 75% of the dialogue/action happens in movies. I'm not sure what your budget is, but anything 14 gauge or larger should be fine. Remember, the smaller the number, the larger the gauge. Happy Listening.
  2. QT, I think that you have made a very wise choice. I had that system for about two years and was very happy with it. Even without a sub, those RF3's go pretty low. You will be very surprised how much bass you get from the RF3's. With regards to your subwoofer choice(when you get around to it), SVS all the way. You will not be dissapointed. The klipsch and SVS match up very well. Although I have not heard the Denon 3803, and I am sure that it is a great reciever(I have a 3300, now part of my bedroom system), also look at the Pioneer 45TX. It had the MCACC calibration circuit, and it works wonders. All rooms have different accoustics, and this one helps to make all 5 of your speakers sound the best in whatever room you put them in. It is also almost the same price point as the 3803. Check it out! http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/
  3. Looks good, but why SS1B for surrounds? They do not match the rest of your "reference" system. Timbre matching all 5 of your speakers will provide the most seamless audio transitions from front to rear. Is it because of the size, or price of the RS3II? Also with regards to your comment on Klipsch subs, I cannot comment on the quality of Klipsch subs, as I have never had one. I can however comment on the awesome performance of SVS subs. You will be hard pressed to find a better subwoofer for the price. I would also like to know why you chose the B&W ASW 300? I have a time believing that one 8" speaker is going to keep up with the four 8" speakers in the RF3's, especially considering the size of your room. IMHO PS. What is your budget for reciever and subwoofer? Maybe I can give some better reccomendations.
  4. Well, I figured it out . After taking out one of the woofers, and checking them one by one, I narrowed it down to the other woofer. I took it out and inspected it, and saw that the tinsel leads were very close together. So at higher volumes, they would touch causing the speaker to crackle. Now I looked at both of the RF5 woofers that I had taken out, and the way that the tinsel leads attach to the voice coil seems very strange. The leads are only about 1 1/2" apart, but facing eachother, which causes them to come close to one another. I tried bending them away from eachother, but I fear after a short while of listening, that they will draw close to one another again. Did I get some bad drivers? I took out one of my RF3 drivers, to look at it, and those leads attach on either side of the voice coil, making it practically impossible for them to touch. Has anyone heard any news of this before? Was there a bad batch of 8" woofers made like this?
  5. Make sure to bring your own reference CDs/DVDs with you to listen to. The best thing to do is let your ear decide. Also, in case you do like the RF3 package, be sure to check out accousticsounddesign.com. They have very competitive prices, and honor the factory warranty. I think when I added up the prices you got, I came up with about $1825. That exact same package from Accoustic Sound Design is $1549 plus shipping. Happy hunting.
  6. Now, somebody correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the woofers in the RF3's the same 8" woofers that are in the RF5's. I was under the assumtion that they are. I believe that they are the 1083-S model. Does anyone know the specifics of this?
  7. The other day I was listening to some music at a moderately loud level, when I started hearing this crackling sound cound come from one of my RF5's. I unplugged the other speaker and isolated the sound to both woofers in my left RF5. I tried taking the speaker wires and swapping them, and the problem stayed with the left speaker. I even hooked up that speaker to the zone 2 outputs of my reciever, and it still happened. There is no specific type of sound that triggers this problem, but it is related to volume. These RF5's are not that old, I am having a real problem believing that the speakers are fried. I had and still have my RF3's and have never had a problem with them in the 3 years that I have had them. Has anyone else ever heard of something like this? Could it possibly be something in the crossover? I need some help, please!!
  8. You did the right thing, not that there is anything wrong with the RB3's, but matching your fronts and rears should provide a very seamless transition between speakers. The extra bass extension of the floor standers for music playback(i.e. 5 Ch. Stereo or DPLII)should be very nice. Also the sound stage on the RB3's is much smaller when compared to the RF3. I went with the RB5's for rears, and I did that because my room will not allow for floorstanders(I had to be able to wall mount them). P.S. Did you make up your mind on which SVS you are going to get?
  9. Another vote for the RF5, I've only had mine about 10 days, and they are really starting to grow on me. I definitely agree that the upper mid/highs are smoother than the RF3. I had the RF3's for about 2 and a half years before I replaced them. They will soon become a part of my bedroom system. A great speaker for the price. I have a feeling that the new crossover used in the RF5, RF7, and RC7 is responsible for cleaning up the midrange tonality as compared to the RF3. I have the cherry finish, and this is a big plus over the RF3 black veneer, in my opinion.
  10. Hey drptpcpe, That is going to be a great combination(at least I hope so)! My setup will be very similar to yours, except that I will only have a 5.1 system, not a 7.1 system. I listen primarily to music(60/40), so that's why I went with the RB5's in the rear. Good luck with your system.... I can't wait till I get my RC7.
  11. Well, called RC Willey(where I got the tv)today, and told them about the problem. They are going to send a tech out to check out the set. Boy, am I glad I purchased that 5yr Extended/In House warranty! Not sure when they will come, but I will keep you guys updated.
  12. PHIL O, Considering that you are in an apartment, I think that one 20-39 PC+ will definitely do the trick. I have RF5's for fronts, RB5's for surrounds, and this thing has no problem keeping up with them. In fact, I have the volume on the SVS to about 30%, and the receiver set at -5 fo the sub output. You won't be dissapointed with SVS.
  13. Ok, so I hooked up the stereo outs of my DVD player to my TV, and the same delay is there. I've tried composite video, S-video, component video, and cable, and all of them are delayed. Does this mean that my TV is somehow delaying the video processing inside? Is this Possible? Does anyone out there know if this kind of thing can be adjusted by a technician? I would have never suspected my TV....
  14. Alright, so after further analysis, it is actually the video that is delayed. I hear the sound first, and then their lips move. Now as far as I can tell, the Elite 45tx does not have a sync delay. If some other 45tx owner out there knows where in the menus to find one, please let me know. I have tried all different sound modes(stero, direct, DD, and DTS), and they all are the same. I have also tested this with multiple movies, and they all have the same problem. Last night I hooked everything back up to my old receiver, and the same thing occured. I couldn't believe it. I wanted to see if it was my DVD player, so I borrowed my neighbors sony, and the problem remained. I was really hoping that it would have been my DVD player, but now I don't know what to think. Somebody please help me.... I'm running out of ideas. So does this mean that I need to get a receiver that does have a sync delay? I can still return this receiver and get a different one if I need to.
  15. Not sure what your application is with these speakers, but the soundstage is also a lot larger on the RF5's. I had RF3's for a long while, and then I tried RB5II's as mains. They were good, but I felt there was something I was missing. I still kept them though, they are my surrounds in a 5.1 system. I do more music listening than movies, so that's why I have monopole surrounds. I just recently got the RF5's so they are still breaking in, but from what I can tell so far they have a slightly smoother mid-range than the RF3's. So far so good!
  16. I can't speak for the velodyne, because I've never heard one, but I love my SVS.
  17. Maybe I did not make my post clear enough in the beginning. The problem that I am having is that the audio is delayed from the video. I see the lips moving, and then sound starts to come out. I have reduced the audio delay on my reciever as much as I could, still allowing the front, center, and rears to be aligned, but it is still noticeable. So my question still remains, when you run all of your video signals(including component) through your receiver, and then to the TV, does the circuitry in the receiver delay the video signal the settings set in speaker distance menu? Please help!!
  18. Thade, Congratulations on your recent purchase. I am sure that you will enjoy those speakers, I know I have.
  19. Yes I have calibrated the distances, and with the correct distances in, it seems to be worse. I reduced the distances as much as I could, still keeping all the times between speakers the same, and it got better but not good(still noticeable). As I indicated in my first post, will running the DVD player through my receiver and then to my tv fix this, and how will this affect my picture quality? Does the video get dalayed by the amount of time set in the speaker setup? How does that work? Currently I have the component outputs going directly to the tv.
  20. Hmmm, I don't think that it tis my optical cable, but thanks for the suggestion. I have a MC Lightspeed 200 optical cable, so it is not like I cheapened out on my optical cable. I also have never had this problem before, with my Denon AVR 3300. Maybe I'll go back and hook that up and see if it improves. Might help me narrow it down to the receiver or not. Thanks
  21. I am interested. I have e-mailed you already. Oh boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!
  22. Let me start by saying that I just recently got the Elite 45tx, and I really like the MCACC(seems very accurate, although I did readjust some of the EQ settings to my taste). When watching the LOTR the other night I noticed a very visible delay in the audio compared to the video. I immediately went into the settings for my receiver and removed as much delay as I could from the settings, and it did improve, but still not acceptable. Do I have to run my DVD(component video) through the receiver to alleviate this delay? Also, how is this going to affect my picture quality? I want to make sure that this is not some feature of the receiver that is affecting this. Any help would be appreciated....
  23. I have had the RF3's for almost three years now, and I really like them. I recently moved to a new house, and wanted to try something different/smaller. I am really into music, but watch a lot of movies as well(about 60/40). I wanted to do matched fronts and surrounds, as I am very interested in DVD-Audio. The plan was to move my RF3's into the bedroom, and keep all of the RB5II's downstairs. I went with the RB5II's, and I must say that initially I was dissapointed, but after break in period they did sound a lot better. I would have to agree with "marksdad" that the soundstage is definitely smaller on the RB5II's. In the end I just felt that there was something missing with the RB5II's compared to my RF3's. Another thing to consider with the RB5's is that you will need speaker stands to get them to the propper height(makes them more expensive than the RF3's). Just my $.02
  24. gatorguy, I'm not sure if you got your question answered or not about putting the RB5 on its side, but I just got a pair of these, and in looking at the horn flare, the spacing is different on the sides than on the top/bottom. Therefore, the rotation of the horn is going to be a little difficault than just removing the screws and repositioning the horn. By the way this is an awesome little speaker. I love my Klipsch!
