  1. Being a minidisc user, I have heard good things about the Sony Fontopia earbuds. I don't know why I haven't bought a pair myself.
  2. ---------------- Ageing gracefully depends on how you spent your life ! I really have lived. ---------------- As a senior citizen in our family claims, "It is better to burn out than to rust out."
  3. I think PWK was as tall as a Yeti and may have even inspired the urban legend.
  4. As a kid, I wondered why our local Methodist church was surrounded by graves. Maybe this is why. Wouldn't you think that a church would have a graveyard at another site? Kind of like bad advertising.
  5. here is an "unknown" group that I have enjoyed.
  6. If I may ride along on this post, I am interested in finding a ceiling speaker for the bathroom. I want only ONE speaker to produce the stereo sound. That may avoid the boring sound of monophonic sound. I think I have seen one that has two tweeters and one woofer built into one unit. I don't want or need two holes for left and right. Any help? I don't care about brand or high end sound. I will run it from the bedroom system into the master bath. Thanks.
  7. Is this why I sometimes think I am reading the script for "Grumpy Old Audiophiles?"
  8. You should mention if this receiver MIXES the mic input with the selected source - especially for recording. That is rare feature in receivers. I don't know any other receivers that offered this feature other than the Sansui I once saw.
  9. If I spend too much time here will I get "horn-loaded?"
  10. ---------------- Man I feel for you brother it won't be long and we will be burried in the stuff here in Michigan ---------------- We're heading to Ludington for Christmas again (in-laws). I'm prayin' for a heat wave.
  11. 6" of snow here in Merryland with more predicted for tonight. (That means garymd's power will probably go out ) I may be in later for a black&tan when it is coming down hard again.
  12. Stray? Not from good sound. I have heard the later Klipsch offerings but my heart always goes toward build quality. When I go to listen to new speaks, I like to wobble the speaker or even pick it up. Modern speaker builders thinking they can create or extend bass using thin enclosures are not fooling me. Regarding subs, if you add the footprint needed for satellite or bookshelf-sized speaker stands PLUS the sub, considering ideal placement, you end up with the same floorspace, if not more. It just LOOKS smaller and the wives like that. And I don't like the little black box in the corner look. I am also an Altec, JBL and Allison owner. Not because I have a need for manly sized speakers, but because I like their sound. New speakers have to pass the approval of the accounting department.
  13. Maybe these guys could cook up something. "Three pairs of SE300B monoblocks built by my SETUP friends in Manila using the JEL SE300Bdx circuit, using high quality iron from Japan - Tango NY15s permalloy, Tamura F5002 Amorphous and Tamura F7001 permalloy. Since the power transformers used were Angela Universals, these amps also saw duty with 2A3 power triodes."
  14. ---------------- Through a fog...The long journey across the room seemed impossible but he knew he had no choice. ---------------- Nick sounds stoned.
  15. JE Labs (I can appreciate the opinion of a musician AND hobbyist) Frankly, I am impressed by those who know for what they are listening. I want to hear what they want to hear. Afterall, they should know what instruments and compositions should sound like. The guys in accounting just want your money. Anyway, enjoy the wealth of info on the site. I certainly have.
  16. ---------------- i have replaced the woofers due to old age and cracking. now when turned up part way it will trip breaker on reciever. is there something simple that i am overlooking? they still sound great at lower volume. ---------------- Replaced them with what? Did you match the original woofer's specs? Sounds great at low levels? If you are using stranded speaker wire, make sure no strands are touching the other terminal. Just a guess.
  17. Thanks, Paul. A little tutelage in MS Paint might is in order, n'est pas? Heck, if one can build a preamp, one can do a little image editing.
  18. ---------------- Boy Neo, Khorns and the shed bring up some vivid thoughts ---------------- "Room loading" issues of another sort arise there. I thought "room-loading" was dangerous only if there were not enough exits.
  19. ---------------- Go to http://www.hifilit.com/hifilit/Klipsch/Klipsch.htm ---------------- Thanks for the click. hmm. I would have definitely scooped 'em whole or in parts. What a score to have found two of them considering they are from mono/stereo era.
  20. ---------------- Where'd you find those valencias? The Marriotsville Rd. landfill/dump? ---------------- PENNYSAVER! Actually, it pays to donate to your local charity. Reciprocity can sometimes surprise you.
  21. Who's got a Shorthorn pic? (If I can get a pair of Altec Valencias <846 Utility cabs> in a two door Honda Accord, he wasn't trying very hard. I drove using 1st, 3rd and 5th only. If I had to reverse, I was screwed. The other was strapped into the open trunk using coax cable. Fortunately, it was only about 14 miles away. But then, I knew what I had.)
  22. ---------------- Bong is the seller... hmmm Obviously you will wait for model, serial number info and photo's ---------------- He may not get around to it too soon. "Ti - ny bubbles..." I wonder if his name is Dave.
  23. Well I don't know about quality, but this guy has a jump on quantity. I just thought you might want to see where this "hobby" can go if unchecked. It's a media salad. Just when does he have time to work?
