  2. Oh and just how are you going to place these speakers in a wall unit. This will obviously change the sound as well.
  3. it could be the yamaha you are mating them to. Some yamaha receivers can be bright and forward and to couple this with the klipsch who already are forward and somewhat bright. My recommendation is to go to the local hifi shop ask them for an in home demo of a Harman Kardon or Pioneer Elite and then listen to the RFs again. I think you will notice a difference also Klipschs arent for everyone hopefully you can get your money back if this doesnt work out.

I have heard nothing but good things. ---------------- I have nothing to bad to say about hitatchi but I have heard nightmares about CC and BB servicing of units. They will only service through their own people and believe me its like pulling teeth to get answers from them. You can purchase coverage from any e-tailler which in all likely hood will give you a local service person that you would call if something went wrong with the set. I had a problem with my pioneer and pioneer dosent have any service centers within 100 miles of me OneCall found someone in town that pioneer authorized to look at my set in my home. To each his own but you could save a buttload of money no tax and free shipping on a better unit IMO.

If thats the case the answer is almost uniformly no. RCA and maybe sony are the only companies that put an onboard DIRECTV HDTV RECEIVER in the set. Since you live in the sticks you will need either Dish network HDTV receiver or a Directv HDTV receiver with a compatable HDTV monitor. the second question of bars on the left and right. You can setup the HD Directv Receiver to fill the screen on a 16X9 set thus elimating the bars. The problem is the stretching of the signal and in my experience looking at all rptvs the pioneer is the best at keeping the image lifelike and not overly stretched. If you have any more questions you can PM me.
  6. Oh and dont buy at BB or CC unless they can give you the absolute best deal. Give ONECALL a try.http://ww2.onecall.com/PID_12734.htm its 2249 delivered but you probably can get them to go lower.
  7. agree the one thing you will realize after purchasing this set is how bad SD tv really is. Its simple numbers thing SD only produces 350,000 colors while HD can generate over 2 million. Im always watching HDNET and HBOHD just to see what my tv can do. But as i said if you live in an area where there is alot of OTA HDTV then you will be satisfied
  8. Their are some manufactures that have an on board hdtv tuner (mitsubishi and RCA) Mitsus are OTA tuners while the RCA has Directv HDTV tuner and is OTA as well. If you live near a big city which is broadcasting HD then either get a HD ready set (no onboard tuner) or an RCA/Mitsu with one. ahh Burn in well let me tell you its a reality. My wife who is a great mother to my children let my kids watch a dvd one day. The dvd ended and everyone went on with their day unfortunately for my tv the DVD logo stayed on the tv for hours. Now if i really look I can see that DVD logo staring at me. I should blame the DVD player (panasonic) for not realizing that many people who buy rear projection tvs to use with progressive scan dvd may from time to time leave the machine on. It was a bitter lesson to learn and my wife is still alive because i basically let her off the hook about it. Yes i did explain to her what Burn-in was before this event happened. Anyways be aware that it can happen. Also if you have the room why not consider this option a standard view large screen tv say 36 inch, a da lite screen and a projecter from sony believe it or not this set up is comparable to the cost of a mid grade 50 inch plasma and a premium 42 inch or an elite line RP. 36 inch tv 500 Da lite screen 84 inch hdtv about 400 Sony or similiar make projection system 2100-3000 brings it to about 3k u still would need the HD or seperate tuner (cable box) but you would be sporting true home theater.
  9. The question is can this budget limited student afford more than the 300 dollars or less the ksw 12 can be had for? is there a better sub out there for the price im not sure their is. also placement of the sub is absolutely critical and can almost eliminate the boominess others have reported. are the RSW better of course they are but they cost twice as much you can get a def tech 15 inch for that anyway thats my opinion.

If you would spend the same amount for a 3-channel as you would a 5-channel, I'd go for the (presumably) higher quality 3-channel amp and let the receiver drive the rears. Mine is set up that way - an Acurus 200x3 for the fronts and my Denon 3300 for the rears. But, if you can swing a high-quality 5-channel amp, go for it! DD ---------------- Doug what is a fair price on the Acurus 3 channel?
  11. just checked onecall it looks like they have the 520 on special for 488. i know thats out of your budget but worth a look. Also i have the VSX 711 in my bedroom home theater and it works fine although its not powering klipsch speakers so i cant comment on that. if you are intent on staying in the 200 range go on ebay and get the Denon.
  12. One call also offers financing for minimum of 5 months and can be longer and they have HK which many people on this forum say match up very well with the klipschs. If you go to onecall please let me know and i can see if i can get you a good deal. I know the guys pretty well as i was stationed their a few years back.
  13. Its not really a receiver as it has no tuner section but i get your point are you recommending seperates like Rotel or parasound for instance or just getting a newer reciever such as the pioneer elite 47 49 or rotel 1055
  14. Are you asking if through klipsch you can purchase 1 klf20? i dont know the answer but they are certainly available on ebay or ubid at different times check their first.
  15. Hello i have a yamaha 3090 which has an internal amp capable of 80 watts per channel over 5 channels. I was considering upgrading the amp then i decided to purchase a seperate amp and now i must decide to go with either a 3 channel or 5 channel amp. Is it smarter to use the internal surround amp and go with an external amp to power the front soundstage or go with a 5 channel amp. thoughts
  16. once again it depends on what you want from your dvd player. I recommend buying the Panasonic Progressive scan DVD i believe its the RP 91. Then add a hackable chineese dvd player like the Cyberhome CH-DVD 500 progressive scan and hackable to play back all regions and best Pal to NTSC conversion available and its only 69 bucks at best buy.
  17. Neither dosent your yammy allow for an external amp? add a parasound hca 855a or 1205 or 2205 or a rotel rmb 985. If its better processing you want then get the Rotel RSX 1055

Yes, the concensus in these parts is "timbre matched / bigger the better"; which is all well and good if that is your bent, BUT, hearken brother to an "alternative lifestyle" If your room and/or budget are on the diminutive side, or if just you want to be "surrounded by surround" instead of having it beamed at you from the back corners, try some RS7's on the side walls. (98db sens.) They could always be augmented on the bottom end with your sub. To take nothing away from the arguments for full-sized, timbre matched surrounds, there is a lot to be said for speakers that are ~designed~ to function as surround speakers; to envelope the listening area with a diffuse ambience. Just my ever-so-humble opinion. And anybody who disagrees can kiss my ...HAHAHAHA-just kidding! ---------------- I agree fully with your assessment...
  19. I do agree that the SD signal can be somewhat less satisfying but if someone is actually thinking about spending 2000 on a tv they should fully test the tv before dropping the 2K. If they arent satisfied with the picture when they get it home then i say its there fault. Cable tv has been utter crap for years in broadcasting SD and if it sucks on a normal 25 inch SD TV its going t suck on a 50 inch HDTV ready set. The Component Vs DVI vs Firewire issue is much more relevant when purchasing a tv of this cost. I have a pioneer 53 inch tv with the RCA DTC 100 Directv receiver which decodes HD for Directv as well as OTA signals the picture on HD is Spectacular and in SD its acceptable. My pioneer also stretches SD but its acceptable to me. I bought this tv for its potential to display HD images and DVD it has not dissapointed on either level. WIll hollywood win out and flag our HD signals so the analog early HD adopters are left out in the cold? who knows but you can purchase a RPTV with every possible option for the 2 grand you want to spend and in some cases the DVI or Firwire option is still there with the standard analog hd component input. My recomendation would be to get a nice SD tv for now and in 18 months to 2 years get a plasma screen or if your budget allows a Projection system with a da lite screen. If you decide on RPTV the recommendation is Pioneer, Mits then Sony
  20. Debate debate, I to like the Denon but i have to ask myself will i be using the denon for video switching capability. right now i have my dvd players going into the tv via the 2 comp inputs it provides and my RCA hdtv direct receiver utilizing the db 15 input. and finally the laserdisk player with dvd utilizing the s-video on input 4. My concern is with DVI none of these receivers take this account and still only incorporate analog component video switching. The DEnons and Pioneer Elites all feature these. My first requirement is better sound. The Yamaha i have is good in 2 channel but not great and its only dolby digital. It was yamays flagship 5-6 years ago and still has many features that even the new Denons and Pioneers dont. so should i use this as my Pre and find a parasound Rotel Acurus NAD or some other warm sounding 5 channel amp which leads me to another concern my yammy is only 5.1 Parasound does have an add on module to make it 6.1 but how about 7.1 on beyond. And finally is the wife acceptance factor. she says get whatever i want be really she means keep it under a grand. oh well
  21. Most of my setup was bought on line from either ONECALL or Sound City or Amazon.com ONECALL is authorized by klipsch for their disconitnued products SOund CIty is fully authorized dealer pay no attention to the soundcity website which says klipsh is for retail sale only call John at X708 via the sound city 1-800 website and tell him your requirements im sure he will get you a good price on any of the items you have requested. For 850 you can do quite a few different things like getting a pre-pro like the parasound hca 855 with a quality pre amp check around ebay and audigon.
  22. I was thinking along the same lines ROTEL then i thought just maybe I could add an amp to my integrated yamaha but the question is would it be cleaner to go pre pro or with the rotel and maybe later add more power to that.
  23. Make sure you audition Rotel and B@k they seem to have a large following here on the forum
  24. Thanks for looking. I am in the market to upgrade my current system. I have a yamaha dspa3090 which has pre outs. Should i a. Scrap the Yammy because its outdated (No DTS, only 5.1 no component switching) b. Use the Yammy in a pre pro combination with a Parasound or Rotel home theater amp c. Go the way of the Receiver and get a Pioneer elite or B&K or Denon or just leave it the way it is. thanks for the help

It sounds like it would be best for me to hold out for a Dolby Digital one. I have 4 KSB 3.1's for fronts and rears, and a KV-1 for the center. All in all, I think the speakers are matched very well. I use a 15" powered sub with this system. I currently have a Dolby 5.1 preamp and separate amps, but I want a simpler system that takes up less space and requires less effort to turn on and get set up. I want a wife friendly system! What is DTS? What are the 7 channel systems I'm hearing about? I appreciate your input. Thanks, Greg ---------------- DTS or Digital theater sound is another 5.1 playback system, some claim its more open and airy then the dolby digital. I cant honestly say as my yammy only plays dolby digital. The 3.1s are good quality book shelfs and i bet you like them lots. now to your actual question. Pioneer offers plenty of receivers in your range that you can find either new or slightly used. try the vsx 611,711 or if you must sony has others that would meet your needs. I have the 711 in my bedroom system and its great for the price. Has component switching and plenty of power for your 3.1s
