  1. wtf, thanks for taking pics of like each component separately. why dont you post a pic of the whole setup...?
  2. I have a Bose AM-10 HTIB set forever. After I discovered Klipsch, for kicks, I had both the Klipsch and the Bose hooked up to the same receiver, as Speaker A and B mode. That type of demo convinced all my friends, who were all bose believers, that klipsch was better. After we moved into our new house, I no longer had the bose hooked up, and just the klipsch. When my parents had a house warming party, all these indian people came over and were like "meh.... these speakers are nothing compared to bose... bose is the best, have you heard bose?" These same people had all heard bose at my house before, but didnt get the A/B demo, but they still insisted bose was better. Perhaps its indian pride or something that fuels all to most unenlightened indians to champion bose, because bose is indian. I dont know, in any case i have learned its impossible to argue with people who are so entrentched in their views. I just dont argue and thank god i found out the truth.
  3. From seating position: All thats left is to 1. construct a stand for the center channel 2. cover the front stage with Royalty black velvet 3. hide the wires from projector to A/V rack. getting the screen now really does make a world of difference, it really makes the picture pop. the colors are so much richer and even the contrast has improved. anyoen considering a hi-power screen with a ceiling mount should defnitely not regret it. I cant say enough good things about it. I'd post screen shots but i dont have an HD-DVR to pause the frame.
  4. HT room almost finished, added a 124" Da-Lite Da-Snap Hi-Power screen. the PQ is amazing on this screen.
  5. hahahaha, i cant wait to buy all of you shoehorns come next year!
  6. NatGun, using one micromirror to cover to pixels is flat out rediculous. you keep clinging to your dream that its a 1:1 pixel match. doesnt matter anyway, I didnt need that article to conveince me, I merely used it as a backup to things i've been thinking for months now anyway. As far as I think, there will be no 1080P sources, PERIOD.
  7. scaling SD to HD looks horrible, it'll look worse if scaled to 1080p.
  8. okay so i feel there are some things that need to be mentioned. first, that tv, isnt "TRUE" 1080p. its a 960 x 1080 DLP chip with half the pixels moving twice as fast or something to make 1080p. couple this with the color wheel, and i forsee even more artifacting or some other annoyance from single-chip DLP sources. second: as many people mentioned, there is no 1080p sources, and there probably wont be any. All the networks have already chosen 1080i or 720p, and i doubt any future networks will go 1080p. HD-DVD/Blu-ray may release movies in this format, but there's no garantees, that this samsung or any future models will even ACCEPT 1080p as an input, or whether those players will OUTPUT 1080p without converting it into 1080i. 1080p right now seems like a gimmick, especially with single chip DLP solutions. I doubt the quality will get any better, i fear the opposite, compared to 720p sets. So its really up to you, but those are the points to consider. read this if you want to know more: http://www.hdtvexpert.com/pages/reality.htm
  9. I have a 3803, and I have noticed a significant difference in the bass output between its processing and an Onkyo reciever I have. I exchanged the model for another one, same issue. I think there's something wrong inherently with the cross-overs. It sounds like it blocks all the mid-range bass and no setting i change makes a difference. someday i will have some time and investigate some more. besides that, its a great reciever.
  10. whoa, thanks a lot for the quick responses. I really appreciate that. After the experience of hanging a projector, I am not going to try that with the center channel. I plan on simply raising it above the ground enough so that the top of the center matches the bottom of the screeen. I will try and get some measurements tommorrow. I was hoping that if I marked the lines, I could take the wood pieces to Home Depot to cut. I know they will cut a large piece of wood to make a small one for selling, but will they make cuts for me, provided i buy wood from there? I dont want anything fancy, just like 4 pieces of wood cut on the lines that I will draw. then i can paint it black and put it through...
  11. I want to build a speaker stand for the RC7. Right now its sitting on the carpet, with a styrofoam block under it used to angle the sound up. It sounds muddy and horrible. While mounting the projector I went to home depot and got a 6" x 36" pine board that I painted black. I want to use that along with maybe another piece of wood to construct a stand for the RC7. To those of you who have dedicated theaters, what angle did you have your RC7s firing at? 15 degrees? I need to know so that I can get the wood cut right. there's about 18 inches from the floor, to the bottom of the screen. the seating is about 19 feet back. That is what i have to work with. Please help if you can.
  12. Okay I *just* finished mounting our projector, and that is another step down (getting the screen will be the last step) so i figured I should share. here's a closeup look of the mount (any ideas on how i can get rid of the pencil marks without repainting?) a look at the bonus (theater room) that lamp is only there to help the camera, normally the room is totally dark. (yes i know next i have to work on hiding the wires) a/v stand close up: Denon 3803 (1083), Comcast HDTV box, Pioneer DV-434 DVD Player ok this i really like, its my own "innovation". My folks paid like $2,000 for a Sharp Hi8 Viewcam. After a while it started getting stuck and eating the tapes. Eventually they got a digital camcorder and this was sitting in the closet, for like 5 years. They thought about donating it to the Salvation army. Then when the theater was being built, I thought about all the people who have a Monitor to check the feed, or cue up a DVD, etc without turning on the projector. So i recycled the monitor portion of this camcorder for that purpose, which fits neatly into one of the storage spaces in the sofa armrest. Its really cool, because I can check to make sure a movie is HD, or fiddle with the OSD of the Denon without interrupting whats on the projector, or even turning it on. sitting up on the center armrest finally this is the "front stage" minus the screen. Thats a SVS PB2+ in the left corner. grills off (just for beauty sake, its usually on there as the copper color distracts)
  13. while i was trying to mount our projector, i bought a 36" piece of Oak wood. I think I will use that to make a stand for the RC7. If you peopel who built a stand at home, how did you go about it or what design did you copy? any pics would be greatly appreciated.
  14. only thing better would have been if the scientist girl had joined them.
  15. you can get a Panasonic HD 42" display TH-42PHD7UY for less than 3k delivered. the ED version is around 2k delivered. panasonic is reguarded as one of the best out there and for that price i would definitely recommend it over LCD. I paid more than what the HD is selling for, for an ED version, 18 months ago, and we love it still. A few things i dont like about LCDs are that they dont do well with fast motion, so if you like sports or action movies, that could annoy you. another thing is that it doesnt look very "organic"... thats the best way i can describe it. I, like all of you, grew up on CRT displays which had this natural feel to it, and had they put out a nice 42-50inch version of it, I would have considered myself sold on it. Plasma is the only technology that combines the best of CRT (its natural organic feel) with the latest flat panel tech. you have a phosphor encrusted glass on both displays, and they work essentially the same way, without the bulky magnets of CRTs. LCD, DLP, DILA, SXRD, all these just dont compare... and I would know because we have a DLP projector too. While that puts out an enormous picture, its not as organic as it is like on the PDP. Anyway, thats how I feel, and i'm simply posting here because it seems that you guys think you cant have a great HD PDP for under 3k, which isnt really true, and if you wait till september, they will be well under 3k delivered. Good luck with your decision.
  16. Saw something interesting tonight while watching Desperate housewives. There was Volkswagen commeercial where there are two people dancing and singing loudly in an apt, to the annoyance of their neighbor who asks them to stop. So they get into their Jetta or whatever, and buy a bunch of speakers and we see them set it up, in a house. But as they set it up, I saw the unmistakable golden woofers of the RW series, which was specially evident on the subwoofer. Thought it was interesting, is klipsch offering any sort of deals, like get a Klipsch THX Ultra 2 HT system with the purchase of a new VW bug or something?

I dont know of any plasmas that sell today that advertize a 15k hour lifespan. Most of them tout a from 30,000-60,000 half life, which means it will be half as bright around that time, forseeably its life would be around 100,000 hours. I wish people like you would take the time to research the facts before you post and confuse someone else brand new from making ill informed decisions. as far as viewing angle goes, you're completely wrong on that front too. Front projection has the LEAST viewing angle of all technologies out right now.. when you get a screen and calibrate it. Plasma, and I think just regular CRT has the highest, at around 160 degrees. seriously, please stop posting this propaganda as fact...
  18. where is that avsforum thread exactly? is it the regular "where are your speakers" made thread? in terms of this discussion, i think it is rediculous for klipsch to charge that high a price for components built probbaly in the same factory as my now defunct Promedia 5.1 While I can certainly excuse the promedia line, I cannot concieve of why they would do such a thing to one of their flagship products.... well i can concieve it, i just think its rediculous. That pricetag caters to a very select boutique percent of people who all but assume these kinds of prices entail proper production, in a country that pays fair prices. I do my best to seek out american/1st world built products and pay the premium, becuase I want to support companies that still employ proper, not slave labor. This is very disconcerting and quite rediculous.
  19. i used to keep the grills off but after putting them on, i realized that the light from the projector lens reflected off the cones and was more disctacting than cool, so the grills are on now...
  20. when your neighbor complains that "your whole house is shaking" when we watched spiderman 2 over thanksgiving break.
  21. that system seems really quite expensive, although i'm wondering how much MSRP just the fronts will be for the reference premier line...
  22. the metro scene and the building jumping at the end was awesome. I never got to watch this movie when it came out in theaters, as I was extremely sick and bed ridden at the time. I was very very anxious to see this when it came out on dvd. needless to say, i was very impresed, even with the non superbit retail.
  23. i have never heard any difference between cables. I am not a believer. But then again, i do believe in evolution and a link between global warming and pollution...

All of Sony's tubes are proprietary, none, especially the 40 is not made by RCA. if you can prove it with a credible link, thats the only way i'll believe you.
  25. I have yet to have been impressed by the PQ of any DLP tv. they are all so pixellated and unbarable to watch. Although I watched it only at Best Buy... where did you guys go? i'm assuming it must be Best Buy's source, but i've been to different ones in different states, same deal.
