  1. Thanks for input; I error'd in quoting the unit; it is a 222C with 4 X 7184, 4 X 12AX7, 5A4, 6U8/7199 X 2 that seems to improve its quality from what has been stated before??? Ken
  2. Very impressive; the work with the grille cloth is especially appealing. Thanks for sharing. Ken
  3. Thanks for the report and all of the comments.
  4. I have been contacted by a seller in Florida who is willing to sell a pair of Belles for $1200. I have not seen a photo of these units; however, if these is an interest, I will pursue them somewhat. Ken
  5. Is this a good value at $225? Is it better value than a 299B? It seems that there a lot of emotion surrounding the 299!! All you Scott experts, please give me your options. Thanks!!!
  6. OK, I am not building a Rebel; however, I am building a pair of cherry-finish Shorthorns. With some labor remaining, I have appoximately $300 invested in material alone!!! Ken
  7. Come on, this is forum of sophisticated users! We would send out the rookie for ribs and beer and a new keyboard. The old keyboard would be placed into the Monday trash and claimed as a deduction to charity of at least $45. HRBlock
  8. Two Belles' available on EBay at 1850+; give me your advice!!! Should we prevail or are they overpriced at this level??? Ken By the way, it is unreasonable that I could not correct my spelling of reas(on)able!!!!!
  9. Mark: I have four or five "The Planets" recordings. The best is William Steinberg and the Boston Symphony Orchestra (on vinyl, of course), Deutsche Grammophon Listing 2530102. Mr. Steinberg became Music Director of the Boston Symphony in 1968 while simultaneously holding the same position with the Pittsburgh Symphony, a first in the United States. The recording was made approximately one or two years later -- the date surmised from the album notes that discussed the currently running of the stage play "Hair" on stage in 1970. If you can obtain a well-maintained copy (seldom played), you will like it a lot, I am certain. All the best Ken Lehr
  10. reisling, chardonnay, burgundy, cabernet, barbera d'alba, pinot grigio, vouvray ..... life has been an adventure. As to listening, Jazz at the Philharmonic (45's), Dave Brubeck (33's, tape, CD's), Dukes of Dixieland (33's), Music till Dawn (classical, radio 50's & 60's), Stan Kenton, Deustche Grammophone and Phillips (33's, the B's, the Russians, and fine vinyl), Genesis, Billy Joel, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Kingston Trio, Jackie Gleason, Stan Getz, taped organ recitals, Charlie Byrd, Kind of Blue, Miles Ahead, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Desifanado, Chuck Mangione, Laurindo Almeido, Desparado, Down by the Sunset Grill, All My Ex's Live in Texas, The Kinks, Paul Simon, The Eagles, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Turandot, Madame Butterfly, Macbeth, Verdi, Mozart, Puccini, Andre Bocelli, Foreigner, Sarah Brightman, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Scott Joplin, George Shearing, Marian McPartland, Turk Murphy, Pete Rugolo, and on and on .... How one does choose what which music, entree, or wine? If you enjoy listening, you'll taste them all!!!
  11. NOS (Craig) Thanks for that reply. Ken
  12. Wow! $499 is a high price! If one looks at the bidding, the buyer, xrayrad, bumped the price from $200 to $499; he(she) must have wanted it pretty bad. Giving $50 to $75 for being pretty and $100 to $125 for a wooden case, we arrive at $325 to $350. A forum member bought one around $50 below that level some weeks ago (guessing). Looking at the second unit, it is being sold missing 4-12AX7's, 4-EL84's and 1-GZ34 tube. He says it worked a year ago, before he pirated (my words) the tubes. What's the value of these tubes (high side)? Or, what are a couple good locations to price them (forum members, please apply). Still interested, Ken Lehr
  13. There is another 299B shown at Item#3014085247 with less desirable cosmetics, claim of operating, but missing key tubes. However, I'm not an expert; even that is an exaggeration. What is the estimated cost of bringing such an item to working condition. I recently missed a 299B by a fumbled bid and have been hovering on the sidelines since.
  14. Art: Thanks again and again for your effort. Reading these papers reiterates to me the force that Paul Klipsch was and remains. This distribution further spreads the technical skills he gave to the people near him. I have to say I envy those confidants. Ken
  15. What is the effect of using EL-34's as output tubes. The schematic on the 272 shows otherwise. Comments on a fair price (does one exist?) would be appreciated. Our electronic brothers -- is this a good buy and maintainable at 10-20% of the eventual purchase price???
