Give your local shop a chance by asking them to meet you halfway at the very least. I work for Tweeter and have been more then happy to do this for many customers.

Have any of you guys seen these new subs on the Velodyne site? They feature a class d digital amp and room correction software. It looks as though Tweeter will be getting the smaller 10" and 12" sizes at the end of August. I know I said that I wouldn't be upgrading my Rsw 15, but these new Velodyne subs could prove killer. Prices range from $2000 for the 10" to $4000 for the 18" sub. I can't wait for them to come in.

The sub isn't going anywhere. I spent a lot of time yesterday listening to music thru it and I will not be upgrading anytime soon. My spl meter is going home with me today and I'll be measuring the Rsw 15's sub 30hz performance using Avia. I FULLY appreciate my Rsw 15, I am just curious about what I might be missing below 30 hz is all, and I really don't think that I am missing that much. We all catch the upgrade bug regardless of what we own at sometime or another. Fortunately, I was able to cure mine before I did anything I'd regret. Thanks for all the great advice.

I actually work for Tweeter and as a result am privy to some pretty nice discounts. That makes going with Svs very difficult because I can get a lot more for a lot less by going with brands that we carry. I found a Mirage Bps 400 sitting in the back of our stock room that I could probably get for $550 and I think I may go that route. It is a BEAST of a sub for hometheater and is actually very musical also. The money I would save could be used on upgrading cables or my preamp. Because I so much love what the Rsw 15 does I am very skittish about selling it, once its gone its gone. I'll never be able to get it back. Thnaks for the replies so far.

One quick reply to my own post is that I just learned that Tweeter is dropping Rel in favor of Velodyne and I could get a very nice price on the Storm. If any of you have real world experience with this sub I would appreciate opinions on now it would compare to the Rsw 15 overall, but more importantly below 30hz. Thanks again.

I have had my RSW 15 for nearly one year and I absolutely love it, with one exception. I have this little nag in the back of my head wondering what I am missing in the lower frequencies. Above 30hz, I think it is arguably one of the best subwoofers available and I LOVE it for that. As we all know though, it's output drops off dramatically below that. I am thinking of upgrading, but I don't want to at the sake of quality. I'm looking at either the Velodyne HGS18 or the Martin Logan Descent. These subs would give me the added punch I think I am missing below 30hz while still providing musicality and that is what I think I am missing with the Klipsch. I don't want to go SVS because I think I will be sacrificing music and the cylinder design probably won't get past the wife either. Any opinions eitherway would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to get rid of my Rsw 15 only to regret parting with it, because other than my being curious as to what I may be missing below 30hz it is a fantastic subwoofer. I can't imagine that I have been missing a lot, but I don't think I'll be happy until I know for sure. I love this hobby.

The best clip to show off your system is chapter 7 of We Were Soldiers. I have never seen a more intense scene in any film, but you have to becareful as it will kill lesser systems. You will know very quickly how good of a system you have by watching this chapter. If your system crap it will blow up, kiss your gear goodbye.

Over the weekend I moved from a one bedroom apartment into my new home and with the larger space I am able to now corner load my sub. Previously, I had to jack the volume up to about half inorder to get decent volume. Now that I have it corner loaded I can't get it past 1/4 without threatenting the foundation of my new home. Now I have to hurry and finish my basement so I can get a pair of SVS B4s down there.

The B&K 507 is the only receiver on the marktet that truly offers seperates performance in one box. It has the Ref50 as a preamp and the non reference 7 channel amp under its chasis. Minus balanced inputs, there is no difference between the seperate Ref50 and the preamp thats in the 507. Its pretty sweet having a $3k preamp in a $4k receiver. The Avr507 is also the only receiver on the market that is non current limiting. Every Japanese receiver employs a circuit breaker which shuts off current (and the unit) when the going gets tough and as a result your peak power is limited. B&K employs fuses and when things get too hot they simply blow. You then simply pop off the top and replace the one that you blew. Peak power all the time.

Plug the 7000 into an electrical outlet and then all of your gear into the Monster Power unit. Its that easy. I have been using the HTS5100 for about 6 months now and love it.

If you have the opportunity, give the Vienna Acoustic Mozarts a listen ($2499.99) and also the Martin Logan Scenarios ($2000.00) respectively. Both are amazing loudpspeakers for their respecitive price points.

I am the In Home Specialist at the Tweeter in Fairfax Virginia and agree with your post that most salespeople don't get it. Anyone can make speakers sound good by playing an obnoxious song or movie clip. I make it a point to demo speakers to my customers by playing clips they wouldn't expect from such artists as Enya, Five for Fighting, and Sarah M. As far as movies go, I love the Opera scene in Fifth Element or a scene from Red Violin. Detail and accuracy are what I want my customers to decipher between brands. It is always best if the customer brings in their own material though.

"a) There are no good musical subs for under $500..." Really? How about the Adire Audio Rava? It is priced at $500 and is basically a DIY sub. It is also very musical.

I've clocked my Mackies at over 100 db hitting 34hz and they were still cruising. According to specs they can play as loud as 125 decibels. I couldn't push them much harder as I currently live in an apartment and have to live there for another couple of months while my house is being constructed. These speakers are also Thx Pm3 certified. I personally cannot enjoy the Klipsch for music as they are too forward and bright sounding for my ears especially at higher volumes.

For hometheater I would recommend going a rather unconventional direction and using active studio monitors all the way around. My system consists of Mackie HR824s ($650 ea.)for the front/rear and a Mackie HR626 for the center ($700). I am using a Klipsch Rsw15 for my subwoofer, but you could easily go with their 15" model which retails for $2100. For right around $5000 you would have arguably the most accurate hometheater under $20k. If you take into account the fact that you will not need an amp to power the system they are that much more of a value. There is no passive hometheater speaker package that can compete with an equally high quality active design regardless of the price difference. I have compared my Mackies directly to passive designs which retail for three time their per pair price only to go home reassured of my purchase time and time again. If you truly want to hear movies the way they were mixed this is the only way to go. They are just as impressive for music also.

I'm using Zu Cable Oxyfuel for the interconnect and Zu Cable Birth for the power cable. They sound great.

The Sony Hs10 is a no brainer at 3k, I can't think of anything else anywhere near that price I would recommend in its place.

I've had mine for approximately six months now and absolutely love it. An SVS wouldn't have made sense in my current set up because I live in an apartment and the added low punch would have gone unused. As it stands now, my Rsw15 exceeds my expecations as far as a musical sub goes and has all the impact I could ever need in my current situation for movies. Its punchiness is priceless. Love it!

How are you getting the Rsw12s for below cost if you don't mind my asking?

Crazy Poster, which Tweeter do you shop at? I am the In Home Specialist for the Tweeter in Fairfax and am the proud owner of a Rsw15 myself.

I rented a dolly from Uhaul and I would recommend you do the same. Mine has not moved from the day I set it up, but will in a couple of months when I my new house is ready. I'm not looking forward to that moving date. LOL.

You really have only two options, either go with Mirage's Om200 sub at $1000 or go with a lesser sub and place a piece of stone underneath it. The Mirage sub is omnipolar in design which radiates the bass around your room rather then driving vibrations into your floor. If it is too costly an option then go with the best downfiring sub you can afford and place it on a block of stone. The stone will help minimize vibrations. The Mirage OM200 is a killer sub by the way.
