  1. Heresys for sale for $300:870-465-2591. Cornwalls,RC3,RS3-claims "like new" for sale in another ad870-223-1960. Thought someone might want to check them out. SSH
  2. Great score, jazman! What a difference in the quality of life with the Khorns in your corners,& some $ still in your pocket.Enjoy. SSH
  3. rowoo, It makes more sense to me that promoters of SACD would want their CD layer to be as top notch as possible,to provide a more marketable dual layer medium. There is a significant improvement in SACD,& it may be that is the reason some say the CD sounds "bad".I have not experienced "bad" CD layers, but CD is thin-sounding when compared to SACD. SSH
  4. dgb In that price range, consider LaScalas. They don't have the driving bass sound of Cornwalls, but provide plenty of strong bass for rock & more detail in the upper ranges (IMHO).Advertising is a good idea. SSH
  5. Frzninvt, Bummer. We can all empathise with your rage.I'd pull up all my patience & try to work it out with them,if I were really happy with the unit.If I had even a thought that I wanted something else,I'd buy it,& if they wouldn't refund or replace, have them fix the bummer,& then sell it.If you're totally fed-up,call a lawyer friend & ask him what he'd charge to write a letter for you. If you're looking for something else, consider Marantz. If I had this happen to my SR9200,I'd miss it as long as it took to get it back, or another one (a 9300 would do fine).I'm soon to send it in for an upgrade to include THX 2 & other 9300 specs for $250.I've already cleaned the old Pioneer VSX-D1S to use while I miss the Marantz. I hope you get satisfaction. SSH

  7. PP, If I'm in the kitchen I sometimes crank up 100DBs,but I have two layers of soundboard,1/2" sheetrock, insulation, & paneling between us-with an open doorway. SSH

The TV has a stand designed for it.I wouldn't put it on the floor.I have considered putting the LaS on an Omnimount, about where the RC7 is now. SSH
  9. LAWRENCE, I have used a Marantz sr9200 with an RC7center & two RC7 rear centers.Although my front & rear speakers are the Heratige line,I've been pleased with the Marantz & Reference combination. Welcome to the forum. SSH
  10. PP, I've only measured DBs.My usual listening level is 75-85 DBS. ssh

It is the width of the LaS when on its side.I'm not sure how well it will work, but now it's a compromise in sound that I can't live with. SSH
  12. It's recently been suggested in the HT forum that I might have been smoking something(nope).I'd pass this sentiment on to your advisor.Just go listen & then decide.I don't use one watt of my SET amp with Khorns or LaScalas.I think someone's been Bogartin'. SSH

Dee, The ALKs will make a difference. As you know,I have them in my other LaS & Khorns,& will have them in these. This is almost certainly a dispersion issue.I have read of LaS used on their sides under TVs,but I'm becomming convinced that the squawker is getting garbled in my carpet, with little clear dialogue sent horizonally.I thought that if others were happy, then it should work for me.I will also say that I'm impressed with the RC7.It has served me very well. Well,it'll take several to get this thing up.I think it weighs 270 lbs.I guess I'd better mention beer. SSH

I may try standing it up.That sure will put my very heavy TV very high off the floor. SSH

Dee,I'll look for it.Congratulations. Frzninvt,Your off axis comment suggests to me that what I said about position may be my problem.I'm getting a significant improvement in music sound, but the dialogue isn't even close to the quality of the RC7.I am sitting so that I am facing the woofer, with the squawker just to my left. SSH

I've A/B tested them dozens of times during various types of soundtracks. There's no comparison in detail of music, but the RC7 does a better job with dialogue. The LaS is on its'side, below the TV.The RC7 is on the wall.Position may be a factor. As I said before,I have been surprised. I plan to put the other LaS in the back, between my other pr,but the squawker isn't working & I don't have project time now.My rear centers are RC7s for a 7.1 layout, but are seldom used. SSH
  18. Last weekend,I had the pleasure of meeting Dee,at a beautiful spot in Scott,Arkansas.I hope to visit longer next time.My emphasis in literature was the Romantic period,so the pastoral setting seeped deep into my pores. He's at a sweet little spot, with a century-old stone-and-woodworked- church close at his left hand.A pretty well-centered place to be,if you ask me.Bypassing a regret,I took a few minutes to go into the sanctuary with him.Wow,Thanks,Dee! The purpose of the 250 mile round trip was to pick-up a pr of LaScalas to replace the RC7 center of my HT with the more timbre-matching LaS.I use Khorns in front, and LaScalas for rear channel surrounds. I've used it now for 5.1 music and several movies. It is a serious improvement for multi-channel music,BUT,it cannot touch the quality of dialogue sound produced by the RC7.I'm very surprised by this, and considering how I'm going to incorporate both into my system. At this point,I'm glad I didn't sell one of my RC7s. SSH
  19. Interesting post,Sean.I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about a comparison in the 75-85 db range regarding the difference in detail between them.I've not heard either speaker. There is a pr of Forte IIs for $650 in the AR Gazette-and walnut Heresys for $600. SSH

  21. I tried the automotive trim & it helped.Today,I installed the answer:stair tread rubber about 1/4" thick & 13" wide.I have about 2 1/2" extra on each side of the bass bin board to ensure contact with my non-plumb corners. Jeff,I heard Dionysus with all_ of my Khorns for the first time today.I'm going to be up late.$40 & a staple gun. SSH

  23. minn_male, Congratulations on your new amp, especially if it gets you around the"fatigue"factor. My Pioneer VSX D1S was prone to wearing me out after awhile with Khorns. You're right about the burn-in,it will only sound better. SSH
