  1. Ehhh I wouldn't say he failed me. He was just excited with his new TV purchase and wanted to get the most out of it. Now so long as we can get the HD service in before the bowl games, we'll be golden.
  2. Bah! So I went out with my dad to help him find a sweet HDTV, and we settled on this gem (going to be delivered on the 26th... a little late for Christmas but who am I to complain ). Now I gave my dad the heads up and told him that the salesman was going to try to push all kinds of crazy cables on us and just to essentially ignore anything and everything he says. Welp, sure enough: "You need to buy these, or the picture will suck." After much prying, my dad started to give way and I told the guy my thoughts and I got a death stare that even my girlfriend would be envious of. He then proceded to essentially say I didn't know what I was talking about. So anyway, a few minutes later and $350 in Monster cable later (yeah... $350 for one HDMI cable, one DVI cable and a stereo audio cable) our cart is loaded. Granted, my father's reasoning for purchasing these was "Well, if we're spending this much on a TV, we might as well spring for premium interconnects." However, I'm just cheesed that the damn salesman would have the audacity to essentially say I didn't know jack about that stuff... But on a positive ending note, after we forced them to do a price match, I also forced him to throw in a crappy HTIB (to hold things over until I get a reference system for them), 10% off a Monster Power Conditioner (we actually do need that) and the Elton John Concert Series DVD to keep my mother happy.
  3. There's no way you're going to copy DVDs without the help of a computer.
  4. Damn! Those are the first pair I've seen near me... I hate being a college student.
  5. Wow. $300 is more than you'll ever need for a DVD writer for your PC. Current Dual-layer do-everything 16x burners are going for a mere $70 at mwave.com. If you're trying to capture video to burn to the DVDs, you can get a good capture card for around 60 and still have enough money left over to buy a 200 gig hard drive to temporarily store anything you record.
  6. Actually, Microsoft is promising sometime around the holidays in 2005.

    XBox Hacks

---------------- On 12/10/2004 6:36:30 AM Jay481985 wrote: I believe X box or microsoft is trying to crack down on people making mod chips. Anyway I hear that if you have a modded x box don't play on x box live because if they find irregularities then they will ban your video game cd key. Correct me if I am wrong, I hear that from my friend cause they play Ghost Recon 2, I play Ghost Recon 1 on computer. GR2 not coming out till june for computers ---------------- Nope, that's not quite right. When they ban you, they ban your system only from Xbox Live (the serial number, but there are ways to get around that which I'll get to in a minute). Secondly there are two ways they'll detect modified hardware and ban you. #1, you sign on Xbox Live with the chip enabled (this isn't really a concern anymore because all current hacked bioses for mod-chips block Xbox Live). Second, if you drop a larger hard drive into your Xbox after signing on Xbox Live, you'll also get banned. Currently, whenever you first sign onto Xbox Live with your Xbox, the Live servers match your system serial number to your hard drive serial number. If either number changes, after that point, you're banned. Second, if you do get banned, it's reletively easy to get back on. All you have to do is purchase a new EEPROM ID (which contains the system's serial number; check the xbox-scene forums) and reflash the system's bios chip with the newly acquired EEPROM. This in effect destroys all traces of your old system in terms of its identity and gives it a new one. Viola, you're back on Live. As a side note, I've been running Live on my modded Xbox for several months now. Never had any kind of problem.
  8. Generally I'm a diamond skiier (sometimes a double, depending on the resort). Although I will admit that I can't stand mogules, so generally I avoid those. I think the last time I went skiing I used a pair of 175s and that seemed pretty comfortable, but I'm definitely going to look inot other sizes before I make my decision.
  9. I dunno... I could see the perfect spot for a Klipsch TV spot... The Superbowl (I know, I know, never gonna happen but just hear it out). Since networks are always pimping their HD with Dolby Digital 5.1 these days, I think it would only be a small step to integrate that into a commercial. Just sorta do the "You have HD, but you don't have the sound." Then place the guy in a room surrounded by some reference products... Possibly do one of those things where a football player comes busting out from behind and rails the dude sitting in the chair followed by "Get impact, get Klipsch." Of course this would be mixed in 5.1 to attract those with HTIB systems as well. Damn, I think I put way too much thought into this. /Just thinking out loud.
  10. Does anybody here on the board know anything about skis? I've been downhill skiing for a few years now and I think it's about time I got my own set before going to Killington for spring break. I never really looked at any skis to purchase before, so I really don't know where to start. I heard K2 was pretty good but does anybody else have any other suggestions?
  11. The only possible "burn in" I could think of is your screen was a regular painted wall... And by burn in I mean the paint would fade after thousands of hours of use. So yeah, in other words, no.
  12. Actually, I think the best sound card for HTPCs (at least that I've read on forums) is the card by Nvidia (Soundstage I believe?). It's the same sound card used in Microsoft's Xbox and features DD and DTS out. Edit: Just looked over everything you're putting in your system. Let me know how that Aquarius III works out. I've been thinking about using one of those on my Xaser V case.

    DS

The thing that I really love about the system is the fact that you don't need multiple carts if the same game to play multiplayer... The game is just downloaded via wireless and stays in the DS until it is switched off.
  14. You won't really be able to hear a lot of volume coming from the front cone unless you're outputing the lowest tones the subwoofer can produce. The front driver on the RSW-15 is a passive radiator which means that it uses energy and air pressure generated by the back woofer to move it. This extends the low end of the subwoofer. The 0-180 switch is the phase of the woofer (in degrees). If the subwoofer is lined up (or reletively close to being so) with your mains, keep it switched to 0. The left terminals are outputs for those of us who don't have recievers or processors with bass management (i.e. current model Pioneers, Denon etc) and you run the full signal to the right terminals, it filters out the low parts and plays them, then sends the filtered signal back to the amplifier.
  15. Remember, everyone loves a log (by Blammo)! The Log Song! What rolls down stairs Alone or in pairs Rolls over your neighbor's dog. What's great for a snack And fits on your back It's log, log, log! It's lo-og, lo-og, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. It's lo-og, lo-og, It's better than bad, it's good. Everyone wants a log, You're gonna love it, log Come on and get your log, Everyone needs a log... (Had to keep with the Ren and Stimpy theme).

  17. There is one retailer in my area (only 12 miles away actually that sells both Heritage and modern tube amps. Beautiful, but incredibly pricey. THE STEREO SHOPPE 19-21 N MARKET ST SELINSGROVE, PA 17870 UNITED STATES OF AMERICA PHONE: 570-374-0150 FAX: 570-374-9220
  18. ---------------- On 11/22/2004 5:36:14 PM dodger wrote: Lastly if you are selling at cost, how are you making a profit? Through high shipping and handling costs? dodger ---------------- Well, considering he sells the RF-7's for $1599, and you can usually get them from an authorized dealer for around $1500 after some haggling I'm pretty sure he's not selling them at cost. Bloody savage.
  19. Something tells me you know little to nothing about audio... Your reference 7 system is packaged with an RW-12. Seriously, talk about underpowering bass with that system. Not to mention that you just openly published your website when Klipsch is legally going after people who arean't authorized to sell Klipsch products.... Sorry, but you deserve this one: lolololololol!!!1!11!1!!!!1!1!eleven!1 n00b.
  20. You'll be fine. In my grandparent's house, they had a propane heater in every room (the kind that were built into the house and stuck out of the wall... but they did exactly the same thing. Anyway, propane burns very clean so there is actually very little gas output.
  21. Hmmm... First off I'm going to say you're going to need to get a new center eventually or somehow find a pair of used KSF-10.5 mains (although I have a feeling these aren't going to be an incredibly easy thing to find... They've been discontinued for a while). Having matched speakers across the front (L,C,R) is very important. Since you already have the RS-3s, I'm going to suggest trying to get ahold of some RF-35s or RB-35s and a RC-35 if the budget allows. For that system, an RSW-10 or an RW-12 would be a very fine choice as a subwoofer. However, if you really want bang for your buck, try to get three Klipsch Heresys off of eBay. you're looking at about $600 and change for three of them and they'll really make your theater sing.

    Halo 2

Ah, I assume you put in a larger hard drive? In order to boot with the chip turned off you have to lock the drive. So yeah, until you do that (check the xbox-scene tutorials on how to do that) you won't be able to get on Live.

    XBox Hacks

www.xbox-scene.com. This place has everything you're going to need. Tutorials on everything, a forum that discusses everything and links to everything. If you're looking to install a mod-chip, I'd suggest an Xecuter 3 chip. Very easy to use and features out the wazoo. I've installed three of those in my friends xboxes with no problems. *EDIT:* Also, if you have any specific questions, send me a PM... I've been on the modding scene for about two years now and I've kept up on pretty much everything. Sometimes it's just easier than digging through all those tutorials and forums.
