Subwoofer idiosyncracies

Equipment: Denon AVR-1804, Klipsch RW-10, 2 Klipsch Kg2 (front speakers), Center speaker Klipsch RC25

Problem: No subwoofer under any play conditio, DVD or CD. I just trundled through some posts and found a suggestion to set my front speaker to 'small'. Voila! Subwoofer response. (playing CD). Demonstrate to my wife the seting change & effect on system - so I set my front speakers back to 'large' expecting to lose my subwoofer. Well, of course I now have subwoofer working with 'large' front speakers.

Anyone have an idea why my subwoofer may have stopped responding to signal?

Thanks.

Do you have your subwoofer set to Auto on? If so, then when you switched your speakers to small it routed more bass to the sub and 'woke it up.' Since the sub had then woken up that's why it worked when you changed them to Large.

KG2s should always be set to Small.

You're also better off leaving the Sub on the On position all the time as well. It uses basically the same amount of electricity as in the Auto position.

On CDs or DVDs with LFE material? LFE is always routed to the sub regardless of speaker 'size' or bass management choice in the receiver. Disable the sub in the speaker complement listing in the receiver. If it still works then the receiver is shot.
