thewolf
What's a reasonable price to pay for a minty 2230 receiver? The asking price is $300, seems a bit high after researching completed ebay prices. Thanks, Gary
Chicago_Pete
Does it come with a cabinet?
thewolf
Does it come with a cabinet? Not a wood one. He calls it a "black walnut vinyl covered steel case".
thewolf
I paid about $165 for a totally serviced unit in very good condition without wood case. I bought a custom wood case for $125. IMO, $300 should come with a case, be in mint condition, and be fully serviced up to factory spec. Some service was done ie, replaced bulbs, de-oxidized internal components. Based on your experience, I would base the range between $150 to $200 without wood case. Thanks for the input.

Chicago_Pete
$300 is too much without the cabinet.Personally I like the "B" series. 2265B or 2285B.I have this rig paired with JBL L100s.The system I couldn't afford when I was in high school. thewolf
Thanks for all the input. Can I hook up an external amplifier to this receiver?
thewolf
Thanks for all the input. Can I hook up an external amplifier to this receiver? They have "U" connectors between Pre Out and Main In on the rear. Pete---Nice vintage rig there! Thanks Mark. Looking like I am in good shape. However, time to start asking the real dumb questions. First - How do I make the connection to the amp? One cable or two? Can you provide a bit more information? Second - I have a Peach preamp. Is it possible to just use the 2230 as a phono preamp and connect to the amp through the Peach? Or is this too stupid? The main reason I bought the 2230 is so I can still listen to vinyl while I wait for my Tercel to arrive in March. However, I also enjoy the CD every once in a while. The amp is already hooked up to the speakers. It would be nice not to have to re-connect speakers to a different source to switch from vinyl to cd. Thanks for the help. thewolf
Thanks mark...appreciate the simplified explanation. Makes sense to me (now). Let me take another shot at how to get the best sound out of my set-up. Current set-up - Peach, Yamaha M85 amp, Njoe Tjoeb CD, Rega TT, and LaScalla's. To be added will be the marantz 2230. Objective is to listen to both vinyl and cd with little to no swapping of wires. What configuration will give me the best sound? Two system approach System #1 - Marantz 2230, Rega TT, and exchange speaker wires between system #2 System #2 - Peach, Yamaha amp, CD playerm and exchange speaker wire when not listening to viny. Or, is there a combo that can be created by inserting the 2230 into the current set-up? Thanks again. Still struggling to get my thoughts around this.
