sean5340
Has anyone ever owned or demoed this receiver? My old JVC died and I am currently using a sub par 5.0 surround for audio. [:'(] It reviews well but I would prefer hearing from you guys. It has pre-out and zone 2 pre-out plus line level sub out. I have a bud that has a 7.1 Onkyo and it sounds great in pure audio mode. http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-8555&class=Receiver&p=f What do you guys think? Fits my current budget $229 free shipping on Amazon. Thanks
wuzzzer
As long as you only need a two channel receiver it would be great. Also, just to let you in on a little secret, I bought my TX-SR805 through http://www.shoponkyo.com They have factory refurbished TX-8555s for $199 with free shipping. Also, when you first sign up you're given 10 points that count as $10 towards your first purchase = $189 total with factory warranty. I haven't had a single problem with my 805 and even though the outer box said the receiver might have small cosmetic blemishes mine was in perfect condition. sean5340
Thanks wuzzer. I think I'll give it a shot. Looks like 1 year parts and labor versus 2.
Fish
I would also consider the HK stereo receiver,I would expect a big improvement over an Onkyo.
sean5340
I would also consider the HK stereo receiver,I would expect a big improvement over an Onkyo. Well now you've gone and dunnit. After searching I found an HK 3390. It's the same price but 80 watts versus 100. Other features are compatible. What do you guys think? I gonna get one of these. I don't think the 80 or 100 watts would make a difference but I could be wrong. I'll consider this an interim receiver as it will end up in the 16'x24' workshop I'm going to build in the spring. It's all the budget I have right now. I don't think there would be alot of difference. http://www.harmankardon.com/specifications.aspx?Region=USA&Country=US&Language=ENG&cat=REC&ser=∏=HK%203390&sType=S

Fish
I have a 130 watt per ch 805,my old HK at 75 watts per sure sounded better. The 805 is a great unit at $600,no doubt, well worth it,mostly for features though, not because it's tops in sound. sean5340
Thanks Dennie. I think I'll go HK. My friend who gave me the LS was running HK with them. Sure sounded good back then! Sean
