jamesV
I know that max runs for speaker wire has been talked about before, or even beaten to death. Is that also the same when talking about RCA cable and the 22awg and 18awg difference? What would be the max. run for each? Looking at MonoPrice and the price difference would be huge between to two. I am looking for all lengths from 3 ft to 25 ft, would it make that much difference in the shorter runs? I will be going over to a friends house to get some measurements to see what exact lengths he will need. I know some will have to be CL2 since then will be installed in the walls but other then that just looking for some help. Thanks. Guest " "
Just as the familuar DC wire resistance charts are really no value for AC signals.....wire charts for RCA cables will also be pretty ambiguous. Different than speaker wire/amp/speaker realtionsships (high current, low resistance, low capaticance, low inductance), RCA cables run in circuts that have high impedances, low signals, very influenced by parallel capacitance (insulator skin effect), noise, etc. 12 meter RCA cables is the max I ever used with good results (monster M-1000)....not to say you could not use more... formica
I've found it to be tricky in longer lenghts, as it'll really depend what kind of RF and EM noise there is present near the installation. You may be lucky... but i've had a case where 25ft proved too long...
Islander
Interconnects are carrying much lower current than speaker cables, so the size is not as critical. The shielding seems to be more important, since more length appears to equal more opportunity to pick up noise and interference.

bhendrix
Hi James, A friend used 50' cables from Monoprice with great success. He had a "central" CD changer that he wanted to use to feed two receivers about 50' apart. Works like a charm with no noise problems. jamesV
Thanks Bill, Really I was looking at the main difference in using RG59 to RG6. Other then an $7 savings, that's just for 6 foot cables. James
