K33 in an Onken enclosure?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been debating what to make with a pair of Klipsch K-33 woofers I have.

The specs as provided by eminence are,

SPEC 15162

PART # K-33

RE OHMS 3.39 FS HZ 34.46

LE MH .96 MMS GMS 78.59

QM 7.39 CMS mm/N .2714

QE .410 RMS NS/M 2.3037

QT .390 VAS LTRS 301.66

XMAX MM 8.20 SD SCM 889.59

BL TM 11.88 EBP 84.4

EFF % 2.91 SPL dB 96.6

Wattage 150rms

I'm trying to figure out if these would work well in an Onken style enclosure.

I've typed the specs into the onken spreadsheet I found on the internet
and things such as vent length seem to stay within spec for the onken
ideal.

My other option for these woofers is the MWM folded horn.

But I'm really curious about the onken.

Any thoughts and ideas?

Thanks,

Josh

According to the onken calculator,

Port area is supposed to be between 85% and 100% of SD of the driver.

If I do that in the calculator it makes the port length too long to be "true" to the "onken" style.

Are there any real problems with using a smaller port area with shorter ports?

WinISD plots it as being ok with about a 13.5 cubic foot enclosure.

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

You can bend the ports as well.

There is a Dynaudio design where the port goes clear to the back, makes a 180° turn and goes forward.

The idea behind the Jensen Ultraflex style port is two-fold: large area to reduce mach speed in port, bracing the outer walls of the box. 50% of SD is generally sufficient for the first, 2/3rds the depth of the box for the second.
