cdoo932
I have a onkyo 605 running RF-82s,RC-62, RT-10d and four old pro media satellites for surrounds. I bought two RS-35s and two RS-25s to replace my old surrounds and the guy i bought them from delivered and set them up. He owns a audio/video store and knows what hes doing or so i thought. After we hooked up the new surrounds and ran audessey the Onkyo would shut down into safe mode when we turned it way up. It never did that before. It would go as loud as i could take. Now it wont. It plays loud but not like it did. It shuts off when I try getting loud like before. What do you guys think is causing this? Any help would be great. Thanks, Steve
willland
Even though Onkyo makes fine receivers(I have two), you really need a high current amp to run your system at high spl's for extended periods of time. It seems like your 605 is running out of gas and it kicks into protection mode before clipping(distortion). With all seven channels running simultaneously at high volumes, you are really taxing the amps in your 605. Take a look at these bench results from an S&V review. Pay close attention to the footnote(*) in the DOLBY DIGITAL PERFORMANCE SECTION. http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/receivers/2632/test-bench-onkyo-tx-sr605-av-receiver.html If you like to crank it up, I would suggest you sell your 605 and buy a receiver with pre-outs so you can hook up an outboard(high current) amp. wuzzzer
Make sure Audyssey didn't set any of your speakers to Large or Full Band. If it did, change it from Full Band or Large to an 80Hz crossover across the board for all of your speakers. See if that makes an improvement. Vick's Pit
I would also check all the speaker wire connections. I had a friend who had similar problems and some of the speakers wires from the + /- terminals were touching each other.Though I agree it's probably the amp being taxed with the large amout of power required to run this setup at high spl. sunburnwilly
Something that I overlooked when setting up my Pioneer receiver . Go into settings and switch from 8ohms to 6ohms . Worked for me , but at the time the my receiver was shutting down at any peak and barely warm to the touch .
cdoo932
I just found out that my center speaker(RC-62) is causing the problem. One cone isnt working and must be shorting out somewhere. Not does anyone know what I can check for to see if I can fix this without having to send it in? wuzzzer
Unhook the speaker wire from it and then remove each woofer to see if there's a loose wire in there. You might need to remove the back speaker wire input panel to see if there's a loose wire by the crossover too.
