MikeSt
Hi, I was just wondering if replacing the caps in Heresy I would causeany noticable improvement at low volume? Or replacing the tweeters?
Daddy Dee
If your crossover caps are original, they need to be replaced. The improvement will be noticeable indeed. On replacing tweeters, if they work, they are fine.
MikeSt
Thanks for the reply! Somewhere here I read the improvement could only be noticed at high volume levels, which I can't do anymore. Actually I've noticed they sound better (to me) at low volume anyway, I just wanted to improve on that.
Daddy Dee
There have been some folks who have posted that some high end crossover designs with pricey caps only offer improvement at high volumes. As far as PWK's network designs and stock caps, these same folks recognize them as the sweetest at low to moderate volumes. I don't know if I've been able to tell a difference, but think the best my Heritage speakers have ever sounded are with PWK designs and fresh caps. I'd suggest to check out Bob Crites, BEC on this forum. He has recapping kits on ebay. I've always been treated well doing business with him. aj01
I did a tweeter (titanium diaghram) and a crossover upgrade on a pair of Forte ii's (early 90s). The tweeter was a definite improvement, but the midrange also had a benefit. This was most noticeable in some mid-range percussion. It went from some sort of "wonk" sound to being able to tell that it was some sort of wood/rubber mallet-head thing. Very technical - yes I know, but there was a noticeable difference in the mid-range by replacing the caps. Volume didn't really matter in this case. MikeSt
I just got a pair of Heresy II with crites crossovers and tweeters! The difference between them and my old stock Heresy I is like night and day. I'm very pleased now.
Ironsave
I did my caps on my H1's about 2 months ago. A definite improvement in clarity..... I recently upgraded my receiver, I feel that has made a noticable difference as well..... What I want now are Chorus; Cornwalls or La Scalas....... (Wish me luck..... No WAF with any of these options.....)
MikeSt
I want Chorus, and I'll get them one day when move into a bigger place. Right now though I have the perfect speaker for an apartment. Maybe Heresy III is even better but these sound great to me. Crites titanium tweeters are smooth sounding btw compared to my old Heresy.
