mbr311
Right now I have a Monster 8 plug 1800 joules surge supressor for my entire system. I was wondering if that is adequate enough, or if I should upgrade to something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-HDP-1800-8-Outlet-Center/dp/B001CBPWT0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1269551705&sr=8-5 Just want to make sure I am protecting my investments properly. thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong section. Coytee
I'll admit I don't know enough about this stuff to give you an educated opinion so take this for what it's worth. You might see if these guys have something similar http://www.surgex.com/products.html I understand they are supposed to be excellent units. I'm prewiring my HT circuits (four dedicated 20 amp circuits) so that I can place their Powerframe 420 into it and already have the wire length I'll need in the wall. http://www.surgex.com/products/powerframe420.html Just so I don't get fried for putting in four 20 amp circuits...this is what drove me to that. I originally wanted two 20 amp circuits however, they only make this in a one circuit or four circuit capacity. That fact, along with having ample slots on my secondary distribution panel, made me figure...why not go ahead and just make four circuits. winchester21
Monster surge supressors suck... I had an annoying noise -- chased the f---- er for weeks - problem- monster power surge unit. Dump all monster surge protectors and go APC- Frequently on sale on e- bay- lose the monster - you will be glad you did IMHO
mbr311
Would you mind linking a good one that you are thinking about so I know what to look for, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
Rich_Guy
I use a PureAV PF60, a great power conditioner with excellent features. I compared Panamax, Furman, Monster and others and liked the features and quality of this one, it's really very nice. The sound of my system is warmer connected with this and a slightly improved picture also. Here is a good review with pics and and specs: http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/frr.pl?raccs&1164306802&read&3&4& They are available in silver or black, I have the black, here is a pic of one in black (this one isn't mine just a pic in black). clermontcop
I second this. This is the one that I have. It is a great performer.
mbr311
Perfect, thanks so much for the link that was extremely informative and that's pretty much what I'm looking for, it's in the same price range as the Monster unit but seems to have much better features. I just want to make sure I am protecting my investment(s) properly, the last thing I need is a power surger that blows everything to kingdom come. My Monster unit seems to do a decent job, I've had a few spikes and it has shut everything down in time and saved my equipment but I think as I continue to upgrade its time to start really thinking about investing in a good surge supressor and this one fits the bill. Plus it doesn't hurt that it looks great and would compliment my system as well []
