lens42
I'm restoring a pair of Cornwalls that need grilles. I ordered the cloth from Bob Crites, but I have a question about the cutout for the grille backer board. Are there separate cutouts for each driver and the port, or do some share a common cutout? My serial numbers are 8407319 and 8407320. If someone could post a photo of the back of a removed grille, that would be very helpful. Thanks. jamesV
Hi and welcome to the forum... Here is a great step by step from Groomlake, a member here, that takes you from start to finish on how to re-do your grills. I don't have a pair of '84 Cornwalls but I believe that each has their own cutout. Good luck and do post pictures of your progress. Pete H
Groomlake's stuff is fantastic! If he doesn't have a pattern I have a Cornwall 2 stripped down and and can shoot you the pictures of the grill backer board and dimensions if you need them. lens42
Thanks. That link is outstanding. I didn't realize this would require that much work, but better to know now than screw it up later.
cyclonecj
I have a pair of the decorator corns that have a single cutout for the mid & tweeter. All of my others have a seperate cutout. I can take pics tonight if you want.

James Groom made a pair of grills for my 84 Cornwalls that I converted to Cornscalas. He knows his stuff on grills!Herb
lens42
That won't be necessary. I routed out new grill boards using the speaker itself as a template. I had to pull all the guts to do the refinishing anyway. Groomlake's instructions were very helpful, though I simplified some of the steps by using the Cornwall box as the template.
