fini
My 89-year-old mother-in-law is going through radiation treatments for a malignant tumor in her larynx. It's very localized, and the doctors feel that recovery is over 90% assured. She has to have treatment every day (5/week) for 6 weeks, and the whole family is pitching in providing transportation to and from. For Daisy, one of the biggest downsides is that she is not supposed to talk (and she's Italian!!). We've given her a pad of paper to carry around so that she can write instead of talk, but I was wondering if there is some sort of hand-held device that will "speak" for her. Perhaps there's an ipod application, or something more exotic that can be borrowed or rented for the 2 months she'll need it. Anyone have a line on something like this? I'll see what I can dig up using Google.

Moderators dtel Posted August 15, 2010 Moderators Share Posted August 15, 2010 No help here but glad it's looking good, 90% is great.. Being Italian at least she can still use her hands to talk.
Jay481985
I have an ipad and there are a bunch of free drawing apps that she can use as a markerboard. Plus she can read lots of books and do other stuff. I am pretty sure there is a text to speech app for the ipad given it has a bigger virtual keyboard.
