shake777
Do I want to choose HD PCM (Stereo) or DTS (5.1) when listening to my Nora Jones from Austin DVD on my multi-channel system? Thanks

pzannucci
It is likely if you just use stereo, it will be cleaner, more dynamic, and have a much higher bitrate using PCM. If your player has an information selection, compare the two settings and see. Of course if it isn't a real good recording anyway it won't matter. willland
If I had to guess, I would think DTS would have a slightly higher resolution than PCM from a DVD. Try it analog 5.1 and digital coax and switch back an forth. Your ears should be able to tell if there is a difference. The DAC's in your Denon 4810 should be top shelf. Bill Of the music videos I have, a little less than 100, most PCM are up arond 1.5mb vs DTS and DD around 448 - 6xxK for surround. Many of the 2channel Digital stereo are around 192k. Not terrible but not as good.
cfelliot
It's all what you like. If a Blu-Ray disk has HD PCM (at least 24/96) I prefer letting my DAC do the decode of the audio and present it in 2 channel. IMO concerts sound better with a flat sound stage. I don't need to hear the guy clapping in the balcony. There are exceptions, so I always give the multi-chanel a listen!
