Marvel
Do you have a plan for what to do with the XP machien after MS stops its suppport for XP? I am guessing that Wondows 7 will just kill it. I am going to try Linux Mint. It worked wonders on a Vista laptop that would barely run. All of my computers I use at home are ones we've taken out of service at the college where I work. My current desktop is a Dell Optiplex 755, running Windows 7. The install was smooth and the performance is way better than XP on the same computer. The MB uses a Core 2 duo 2.83Ghz with 4G of ram. If you go this route, and the pc has an Intel chipset, make absolutely sure you get the Intel Chipset drivers installed. Dell also has a System Software download that loads all kinds of things for the MB design. Those two things will get the performance up. I have about 8 older dual core amd based Optiplex models too (740). They also perform very well with Win 7. The good news for me is I can get a copy of Win 7 Pro for $19 through the Educational Work at Home program. Only one a year, though. Same for Windows 8, which I would do if I had a touch screen. IE 10 works pretty well, too. Bruce
tigerwoodKhorns
I have two Dell Optiplex P4 3.2 GHz desktop machines with 1 gig of ram. They work beautifully on XP, but I think with the 1 GB ram W7 will slow them down.
