Peavey or klipsch... this is the matter!

I have a pair of Peavey SP1 15" woofer absolutley new and unused... I want you suggest me what to do with them

I have two options:

1- make a FH1 (not SP1 bcuz I have no midrange driver and horn) and put the woofers inside them

2- make a scala enclouser and buy a pair of Bob's tweeter and a pair of Atlas PD-5VHmid-range driver (I'll make crossovers myself) and build a LS using peavey woofers

what is your idea?

question: do you think Peavey 15" woofer will sound good in a LS project?

tnx alot

you can put about anything in a LS box and it'll go boom boom yeah, not like it's a terribly tuned enclosure or anything.

you mean using this peavey 15" woofer in a LS which has the other original parts (tweeter, mid-range,horn, crossover) and with the original enclouser will result unsatisfactory? won't it sound like klipsch? keep in mind that this Peavey woofer is better than K-33

If I recall correctly, you're in Iran, correct? If so, your relatively limited options will color the advice offered.

As to the Peavy woofer being better than the K-33, that's a subjective statement. Better in some uses, perhaps, Better than a K-33 in a La Scala, not in my opinion.

Better? Do you mean higher output?

Bill Fitzmaurice has some great plans on his site for all kinds of do-it-yourself enclosures for all sizes of drivers. His plans sell for about $14 each emailed.

The peavey driver might not fit in an authentic LS cabinet. A K33 would, however, fit in the SP1 or FH1 cabinet, and sound better.

I think John Albright set up some FH1s for his church, and put K33s in them. If you already have the woofers and need cabinets, I would build the FH1 cabs. It would be an easier build.

Are your Peavey SP1 woofers the stamped-frame Eminence-built model, or the cast-frame Peavey model (Black Widow)?

The stamped-frame Eminence-built model works better in an FH1 or a LaScala.

Years ago I made 24 LaScala type cabinets. I changed every single dimension to eliminate the reverse-taper 'squeeze' section, allow a driver up to 15-3/4" wide to be mounted, and cut with no waste. The stamped-frame Eminence driver worked better than any of the Peavey, Gauss, JBL, or EV drivers I tried. I ended up having custom drivers made by Eminence, and another company (Elcom).

my woofers are Peavey and have rectangle black magnets... I dont know which model are they

The black ones are just a bit newer is all.

They went to powder-coating the magnet structure parts rather than cadmium-plating them.

Doesn't really change the performance any.

It would probably work fine in either an FH1 or the LaScala. You might even try my vented LaScala (for more bass).
