PointSource
Hello I have Klipsch RF-3 II and KSW-12 Speakers. I have a 200 watt x 2 at 8 ohm amplifier for the RF-3 II's. I need a cheap, but decent pre-amplifier to go with it. I'm upgrading from a Yamaha HTR-5460 Home Threatre Receiver from Best Buy. Please give me suggestions and where to find them online! Thanks a million! ------------------ Ice is forming on the tips of my wings.....-Pink Floyd, Learning To Fly
ShapeShifter
PointSource, Are you interested in a Tube or SS type preamp? Willing to buy used or new? Wes ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c>

Wes Shape, I am interested in Solid State Preamplifiers. I don't care if they are new or used, as long as they are consistent in their operation. Any ideas? Thanks! ------------------ Ice is forming on the tips of my wings.....-Pink Floyd, Learning To Fly
ShapeShifter
PS, I'm not too familar with SS pre's, but I've heard others speak highly of McIntosh, Onkyo and NAD. Creek makes a very good passive preamp that can be found used at very good prices. Take a look at what's available at Audiogon's web site. Many of us have gotten very good buy on good used equipment from listings at this site. http://www.audiogon.com/index.html There may be others here who have great suggestions as well. Best of luck in your quest. Wes ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c>
j-malotky
I have a Mcintosh MC36 preamp. I love it. They are fairly cheap, MC 36 & 38 can be had in the $600-$800 price range on ebay. In the early - mid 80's when I first went to components I had a NAD 1155 used with a pair of 2200 power amps. The MAC is far superior to the NAD. Never owned Onkyo. partaymon
Any number of NAD preamps can be had on EBAY-- not the prettiest things in the world, but very competent equipment!
Shock-Late
Best preamp I've heard so far (among "cheap" preamps): the one I use for now! ROTEL RC 980BX. no tone controls, lots of inputs, very neutral, transparent sound, incredible dynamics. Far better than the Technics, Marantz and NAD preamps I tried before. I use it with a Musical Fidelity power amp. It's not made anymore (it's from 1996 i think) but easy to find second-hand. I paid 200$ for mine, in mint condition. I'll post a pict of it, it's serious stuff. Frans

Shock-Late
...and inside view. Note the size of the condos: such things you often find in integrated amps! have fun. Frans
